The most fascinating thing about these archive tapes is just how tempramental all the newsroom equipment was. Audio outputs not working, poor camera focus, difficulty switching channels, etc. I did find it quite entertaining how the device used to transfer the audio signal from the phone was given to the newscrew and they clearly had no idea what it even was lol. Still, amazing composure and professionalism in an unprecedented time for all of them. Great footage.

Yeah nothing like that 180 p picture quality. lol. Brings back a lot of memories. It was top of a line equipment for the time. A lot of mistakes but that’s excusable too. A dead secret service agent..,false. A 303 English rifle….false. A couple other things too. A lot of the first things reported can be rumor or just false. All in all damn good reporting considering how fast the emergency was upon them.

CBS didn't go directly to Walter Cronkite when news first broke of JFK's shooting (just several "bulletins") because the camera tubes needed time to warm up or else if they went directly to a live feed in the NYC CBS newsroom the camera would have likely blown

I find it interesting that David Brinkley announced, no fewer than 4 times, that Kennedy’s term would have ended January 20, 1964, “almost a year and a half from now.” I’m sure the shock of the situation contributed to the error. (The correct date was January 20, 1965.

It's absolutely impossible to believe that nobody at NBC News caught Brinkley's continual mistake to correct him off-camera, even with the confusion and gravity of the situation.

The news of Kennedy's assassination was broken into the prime time schedules of British television. There were only two television stations available in Britain at the time. BBC Television actually stopped broadcasting for a short while, but commercial channel ITV continued. They interrupted their prime time schedules with news reports.

Why did they ask for the witness's address? Why did people give their addresses out like that back then?

The most well known coverage of this tragic event is from CBS due to Walter Cronkite...nice to see how other networks dealt with this story. 🤔

BBC Television in Britain were airing their live early evening magazine show "Tonight" when they broke the news, went off air for a few minutes, but then returned to normal programs, but with news reports. ITV Television stayed on air, they were airing their game show Take Your Pick and a news report broke into it. Then at 7.40pm during their hospital drama Emergency Ward 10 they broke in and declared the news of JFK's death. ITV then scrapped their planned schedule and aired continued news coverage.

Was Jean Hill telling the truth or not. Her story seems unlikely. A dog in the road? That’s the only mention of that I’ve ever heard. Also strange that WBAP local affiliate is in color , and the network is black and white.

Jean Hill changed her story about 20 times. Even the lady that was with her said she lied. Jean Hill said a Dog was in the middle of the seat, not the street. But she was wrong. In fact, if you look at the footage you see she wasn't even looking at Kennedy when he was shot. Jean Hill later claimed she saw a shooter. She was a liar

She said a dog in the middle of the SEAT! Def not a reliable eyewitness. As for the Colour/B&W thing - I've read that was a bit of an embarrassment to the network. Some smaller market stations had the cash to upgrade to colour, but NBC in NYC was a still B&W!

@@JMC786no she didn't. That was a stuffed doll the president and first lady was looking at. Jean hill indicated that the shot came from the grassy knoll. Explain to me how was she lying? Neither she nor bill and gayle newman were interviewed by the Warren commission and they were right there. CONSPIRACY!

Hill, many years later, started claiming she saw a knoll shooter and that she was immediately seized, sequestered and menaced by sinister agents, but she never mentions a word about this when interviewed on live TV the day of the shooting. In fact she went straight from the plaza to the press room of the Sheriff's office with Mary Moorman and Jim Featherston of the Dallas Herald, as confirmed by Moorman, Featherston... and Hill's own affidavit.

Compare with CBS's coverage. Huntley seemed flustered,. Frank Reynolds was on game. Of course, ABC's coverage was a joke. The local stations in Dallas did much better.

After the 3rd shot that was heard (several shots were not heard because of a silencer used by the assassins) the frontal shot that hit President Kennedy in the right temple which exited the rear of the president’s head instantly killed him.🇺🇸✌🏽🙏
