JFRD personnel, including the Special Operations Team responded to a tree surgeon stuck in a mobile lift that was rendered inoperable after the tree they were working on hit the lift on the way down to the ground. The worker was uninjured but stranded 60 feet in the air.
This call presented obstacles to our crews as the location of the lift was in the backyard of someones home. Parking on the street and extending the ladder from there was not an option as powerlines were in the way, so the decision was made to bypass the powerlines and park in the front yard of the home. Fortunately for us, NAS Jacksonville Fire Department had a bucket ladder and were not too far from us, so they responded as mutual aide for us. They approached from the backyard, and as their reach was hindered by powerlines and trees, the decision was made to back them down the neighbor's driveway. Finally, to connect crews from both sides and to shuttle equipment and personnel more efficiently, the privacy fence separating the properties was removed.
Command was aware of the unconventional methods used, and the potential aftermath left to the citizens property and made sure that a followup was scheduled to ensure all property was returned to its original state.
