R7 5800X3D pulls "only" 108W compared to R9 5950X 120W or R9 7950X 251W according to GN EPS12V rail test, so it is not too demanding for VRMs.

Basically just how the platform functions, you can only leave reviews shortly after ordering so most of the time it's 5 stars works as expected. If issues pop up later, no way to write a review at that point.

I’m remember when 90 bucks for a motherboard was if not high end at least mid range. And 40-50 bucks was low end. I’m glad to see reviews for cheaper options but I personally don’t buy computer parts on aliexpress as I prefer to have proper EU warranty. It’s good you mentioned fan headers. I’ve noticed that when buying budget boards the lack of fan headers makes cooling difficult. Like on my H610 motherboard for my 12400F.

Afaik AMD mandated BIOS flashback support via USB for all B650 and up mainboards (don't know about A620 though) to avoid the exact problem of having to install an older CPU just to flash the BIOS as part of their commitment to platform longevity. Part of why AM5 became generally more expensive than AM4. That board not having features mandated by AMD would be enough of a reason for me to steer clear of the manufacturer altogether. Other than that I completely agree with Steve - AM4's history + AM5 being a well rounded platform is all the reason you need to get a good quality board and be happy with it for years to come. I might've overdone it a "little" with my X670E Taichi Carrara, but I do not regret it one bit. 😊

Some important information about this motherboard : 1) YOU NEED TO UPDATE THE BIOS BECAUSE OLDER BIOS VERSIONS HAVE BAD RAM SUPPORT! 2) No 3 pin fan support, they just work at 100% rpm all the time. 3) No profile saving in bios. 4) Ram overcloking is complicated due to some timings are in hex and no profile saving is possible. Anything above 6000 Mhz is complicated.

I think that perhaps testing a more mainstream AliExpress brand like Soyo might provide more positive results. I would also be interested in seeing you test a Biostar B650 motherboard because I think it's the most underrated brand in the world. My first motherboard (back in 1988) was a Biostar Baby-AT design and it worked just great. The fact that Biostar still exists today just shows that even thought they're not a big player in the West anymore, they're not junk because they have persevered over the past 40 years. There are a lot of well-respected brands who cannot say the same like BFG and EVGA.

For those who already have this board, or that are on the fence about getting one: There is a new bios with 1.2.0.0a AGESA support, and Ryzen 9000 series support. Changes I could see so far: added a vdroop load calibration option, and now I can go up to 6000MHz on the ram, albeit not at CL30 (CL34 works with 1.35v), and before I couldn't get past 4800Mhz, no matter what I tried. For reference, I'm using a 7600X.

I have the one. Its BIOS stands between the 4-brand mobo and this video`s mobo. I mean there are more overclocking features and other settings but some are missed: some memory timings, no overclocking profiles, no 3-pin cooler management (only 4-pin PWM), mobo sensors show weird secondary temperatures. I.e. the 4-brand mobos do not have those issues obviously (or much less). As for hardware I ought to say the colorful mobo is great and looks very cool. I can overclock my 32 GB up to 6400 MHz with 1:1 ratio (or simply activate EXPO 6400 profile), my R7 7700 with PBO or by fix. And of course, I purchased it on nice price at Ali. Moreover I have the Colorful RTX 3090 Vulcan card.

The only time I buy Chinese motherboards is the older gen core i5 "combo deals", which often come with memory, cpu and motherboard for no money at all (great for people looking for cheap PCs). I built an itx HTPC to my partner 2 years ago. The cost was 75$ in total. The motherboard was brand new (SZMZ) and it came with a PCIe 3.0 m.2 slot offering really decent SSD speeds, + core i5 3570 and 16GB DDR3. We still enjoy the computer, play games and watch movies from it. :) It lacks proper S3 sleep mode, but since Linux starts so quickly from hybernation mode it hasn't really been an issue at all.

Aside from warranty, with products for the Chinese market we are also unsure how they stand up to legislation in our region, e.g. CE & RoHS in the EU or RCM in Australia or FCC in the USA. Igor's lab was able to buy products with arsenic and electrical fire hazards just fine from Ali Express. 😅

I think it'll be good if you test this board with lower end CPUs maybe with the 7500f? or even the 7700. Will then have a better picture of what it will look like for people who are going to budget option route but want to go with an ITX build.

You should take a look at Maxsun MS-Challenger B650M Wifi next, you can get it at the same price and it actually comes with wifi, better BIOS, and better support

Considering all AM5 motherboards ship with MediaTek WiFi cards, this one coming without one but an empty space to put yours is a vast improvement. I've had to replace WiFi basically in all my AMD AM4 and AM5 machines to Intel or Qualcomm cards. Even my £500+ motherboard (Asus ProArt X670E Creator) has absolutely dogshit wifi 😂 thankfully Intel AX210 can be had for £10 from Ali but replacement is a hassle (have to take out motherboard entirely because screws are on the backplate side)

Another great option for budget b650 with is the CVN B650m Frozen V14 for $145. A lot of feature at a lower price. I just bought a bundle with 7500f for just $300.

Hmm have to agree. Do not skimp on the MB. $50 USD is nothing when you consider the difference in a one level up CPU or GPU. Interesting board. I have a Chinese Mini ITX AM3 bought a few years back. Used it with integrated graphics and even stuck a 1070 on it with a riser. THX for the review. I was waiting for it after you mentioned it was coming.

@@cloudnine5651 If you buy a $90 product and have to sped 4 hours to get it working correctly instead of spending $130 on a product that just works, you just spent a bunch of time working 10 bucks an hour. My time is worth more than that.

It may be a couple dollars but here in Asia it makes a bigger difference when you're penny pinching and it's good enough to pair with a R5 7500F. Still, the AM4 platform is a lot more affordable.

The discolored pins in the CPU socket may be an indication of sloppy plating. If so, corrosion over time may lead to system instability, especially in humid climates.

I have one of these with a 7500f both from Ali. It's true about the ram stability is annoying. After trying all-sorts, I eventually manually changed my cl30 expo profile speed to 5600 and left the timings and it works. It was annoying. You can update bios from the boot menu in bios. The pbo etc works well. It's super stable other than no love for 6000mhz . It was either a 5800x3d or this motherboard ram and a 7500f for the same money. This is cheaper and faster. Just buy one.. hehe

"Welcome to Jank Unboxed. I'm your host Steve" :P Poking fun aside: It's always easy to spend other peoples money with good advice, but if you're really really hamstrung for cash, don't gamble. Keep saving until you can buy something where RMA's will be handled properly. The dud-rate on entry level products IS higher than on the mid-range and premium stuff, so it becomes extra important to have "insurance" if you simply can't afford a loss.

What people don't talk about is that this board also has a good quality sound card. And having optical connection is a bonus for 5.1 surround( if your surround doesn't have hdmi input ) if you want to decode the best sound like Dolby digital, DTS digital..
@Hardwareunboxed

I think it's because the onboard sound ain't selling this board.

3.5mm jack or optical are only 2.0 true sound. Any conversion to 5.1 is either a program on the computer or an amplifier/DAC you are running to.

Yes you will need compatible Soundsystem to play digital like Dolby. They will only decode 5.1 if you use optical or hdmi..

I love to see these videos with cheap aliexpress parts, its interesting to see if they are a viable option for some people or not. I'm a tinkerer, I have 3 Engineering sample 11th gen intel(unlocked) 8C16T cpu mini-itx boards with laptop cpu's soldered onto the custom boards, my wifes computer, 1 server, 1 spare, and they take some learning and tinkering to overclock, but when they're overclocked and modded correctly, they perform like a 5800X and they cost me about $120USD each then an X99 aliexpress server board with 96gb ddr4 ram and a 2680 v4 14C 28T cpu in it for my virtual server stuff For a knowledgeable tinkerer these boards are hilarious fun, for anyone else they are frustration

Maybe with the newest BIOS (16/8), the faulty power reading issue has been fixed. This can be a really attractive solution to AM5 ITX, if they can sort out the software side
