We're all laughing at the notion of a B*50 ITX board costing 90$, but I'd like to remind everyone that my ITX B350 cost 70 and is still rocking my 5800x3d daily.

R7 5800X3D pulls "only" 108W compared to R9 5950X 120W or R9 7950X 251W according to GN EPS12V rail test, so it is not too demanding for VRMs.

I’m remember when 90 bucks for a motherboard was if not high end at least mid range. And 40-50 bucks was low end. I’m glad to see reviews for cheaper options but I personally don’t buy computer parts on aliexpress as I prefer to have proper EU warranty. It’s good you mentioned fan headers. I’ve noticed that when buying budget boards the lack of fan headers makes cooling difficult. Like on my H610 motherboard for my 12400F.

@@remstesthd6784 Those i7s would use around 100 watts, this B650 can easily provide that, as Steve said. And don't forget there has been inflation so 90€ then is like 120€ now, which gets you the Asrock B650M-HDV which is better than those Z87s.

For those who already have this board, or that are on the fence about getting one: There is a new bios with 1.2.0.0a AGESA support, and Ryzen 9000 series support. Changes I could see so far: added a vdroop load calibration option, and now I can go up to 6000MHz on the ram, albeit not at CL30 (CL34 works with 1.35v), and before I couldn't get past 4800Mhz, no matter what I tried. For reference, I'm using a 7600X.

Some important information about this motherboard : 1) YOU NEED TO UPDATE THE BIOS BECAUSE OLDER BIOS VERSIONS HAVE BAD RAM SUPPORT! 2) No 3 pin fan support, they just work at 100% rpm all the time. 3) No profile saving in bios. 4) Ram overcloking is complicated due to some timings are in hex and no profile saving is possible. Anything above 6000 Mhz is complicated.

This is just an irresponsible financial decision even if you buy this for just a 7800X3D and stay with that for years till the next socket for AMD and Intel in 4 years or longer. Afaik AMD mandated BIOS flashback support via USB for all B650 and up mainboards (don't know about A620 though) to avoid the exact problem of having to install an older CPU just to flash the BIOS as part of their commitment to platform longevity. Part of why AM5 became generally more expensive than AM4. That board not having features mandated by AMD would be enough of a reason for me to steer clear of the manufacturer altogether. Other than that I completely agree with Steve - AM4's history + AM5 being a well rounded platform is all the reason you need to get a good quality board and be happy with it for years to come. I might've overdone it a "little" with my X670E Taichi Carrara, but I do not regret it one bit. 😊

I think that perhaps testing a more mainstream AliExpress brand like Soyo might provide more positive results. I would also be interested in seeing you test a Biostar B650 motherboard because I think it's the most underrated brand in the world. My first motherboard (back in 1988) was a Biostar Baby-AT design and it worked just great. The fact that Biostar still exists today just shows that even thought they're not a big player in the West anymore, they're not junk because they have persevered over the past 40 years. There are a lot of well-respected brands who cannot say the same like BFG and EVGA.

The pbo etc works well. It's super stable other than no love for 6000mhz . It was either a 5800x3d or this motherboard ram and a 7500f for the same money. This is cheaper and faster. I have the one. Its BIOS stands between the 4-brand mobo and this video`s mobo. I mean there are more overclocking features and other settings but some are missed: some memory timings, no overclocking profiles, no 3-pin cooler management (only 4-pin PWM), mobo sensors show weird secondary temperatures. I.e. the 4-brand mobos do not have those issues obviously (or much less). As for hardware I ought to say the colorful mobo is great and looks very cool. I can overclock my 32 GB up to 6400 MHz with 1:1 ratio (or simply activate EXPO 6400 profile), my R7 7700 with PBO or by fix. And of course, I purchased it on nice price at Ali. Moreover I have the Colorful RTX 3090 Vulcan card.

Or maybe it's measured in Farenheit, Kelvin, or maybe even average energy lost per second of a kangaroo? Maybe we need to use the sum notation "Sigma" , terms 1 - 69 and the rest of the bars is a segment of this sequence?

Hi Steve. Whilst you are waiting on Zen 5 to benchmark any chance you could test and compare the various Thermal Grizzly interface products? I have been using Kryonaut for a few years but heard some comments from Der Bauer that Hydronaut might actually be better with water cooling or AIOs and might last longer. A long term test is not really feasible but it would be great to see how the new Kryosheet compares to Aquanaut and Kryonaut (+/- Aeronaut) on AIOs and air coolers. Thanks in advance 🙂

This video highlights the memory techs EXPO and XMP. I know XMP is the older standard that Intel developed to enable memory timing settings. But I always thought EXPO was just a name game by AMD and that it was their name for XMP. Now this motherboard make you select between XMP or EXPO depending on what standard the memory supports. I think it would be interesting to watch a video on the implementation of XMP and EXPO that explains if they actually differ in any way and then just how they differ. Is the data stored in different formats or is there something else that makes a difference. I know that the timings might be different for the Intel memory controller and for the AMD memory controller, but is that all? What difference would a MB like this do handling the timing data depending on if you chose XMP or EXPO? Or is this actually just a name game?

The discolored pins in the CPU socket may be an indication of sloppy plating. If so, corrosion over time may lead to system instability, especially in humid climates.

4:40 get yourself a JIS (Japanese industrial standard) driver. (its Philips but straighter sides so it wont cam out. (JIS drivers work on both JIS and Philips screes.. but a Philips driver cannot be used with a JIS screw (you will strip it easy)) I only have JIS drivers now. they really are amazing. if you never tried on, you must... feels good man.

I've had a few issues with the UEFI on this board (using the latest available): To enable Secure Boot, CSM must be disabled, when CSM is disabled, the system does not resume from sleep. Does not boot if quiet mode is disabled. Contains the AMI test key for Secure Boot. The dialogs for viewing secure boot keys are also a bit broken. I've reported these issues to them, but (unsurprisingly) no updated UEFI has been released.

Hmm have to agree. Do not skimp on the MB. $50 USD is nothing when you consider the difference in a one level up CPU or GPU. Interesting board. I have a Chinese Mini ITX AM3 bought a few years back. am using a Soyo B550 Monarch Dragon board for my 2nd rig (Ryzen 5 5600). So far it's been great except for the initial issue with updating the BIOS (the seller did not update the BIOS for me. Had to do it myself but i screwed it up coz everything is in mandarin! Had to asked an expert to restore everything back). Am aware that the "current" Soyo has nothing to do with the original Soyo, but am riding a bit of a nostalgia wave with my "Soyo" board. Hope you guys could review the new "Abit" board too.

I generally expect 3+ fan headers for a PC (CPU, intake, exhaust), but I assume this type of board is for small form factor with only exhaust. 👍🏼 Weren't it for the memory compatibility, it would seem great for that use case. Aside from warranty, with products for the Chinese market we are also unsure how they stand up to legislation in our region, e.g. CE & RoHS in the EU or RCM in Australia or FCC in the USA. Igor's lab was able to buy products with arsenic and electrical fire hazards just fine from Ali Express. 😅
