Hey Captain, Economics Professor here: When you save costs by producing a larger variety of products (but that are maybe similar) it's actually called Economies of Scope. Economies of Scale are when you save costs by producing more of the same product. Hehe, sorry, just had to leave that comment ;) Love your reviews!
@RechargingBatteries
@RechargingBatteries 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the economies of scale is referring to the individual components right? You are producing many of the same knobs for example

Actually, he's referring to the chassis and the knobs, along with the input jack... And since they ARE all the same product, the Captain is correct. It's economies of scale.

Imo Josh made this line to fill out the bread and butter of your board- so to speak. These are the basic effects everyone uses- overdrive, dist., reverb, chorus, etc. If you can fill out these basic needs for less money- it leaves more money for the fun stuff. And an added bonus- if you know a tone snob you can let them hear these- and once they're bragging on how good they sound- tell them they're digital. All of them- not just the delay. LOL

I think there is a lot to be said for a range of pedals featuring a standardised shell and general layout. As well as helping to save on the manufacturing costs this approach also makes it a lot easier for someone to construct a pedal board with a reasonable layout. If you think back to pedal boards of the past you can just imagine the arranging a original shape Guv'nor (fairly large metal box), then you have a few Boss pedals which are fairly small but this Fuzz Face is massive leading to a board that you can probably spend a couple of hours trying to figure out how to layout and route stuff to work well.

I'd be very interested if Josh combined a few of these basic pedals into a fully featured, yet compact and simple to use, all-in-one flyrig type of unit. Start with a basic but wide-ranging drive/distortion module (and maybe tuner) plus other staple, simple fx (even if just reverb) and including a footswitchable external series fx loop for maximum flexibility. Then provide various useful outputs, including basic amp-in-a-box option(s) offering separate, individually defeatable outputs (to suit the destination of each feed) for XLR DI to go straight to FOH, TS jack for an amp or powered monitor speaker, plus headphone out with dedicated volume, all able to use a simple cabinet sim, offering typical different impedances + levels for flexible use with mixing desk mic inputs, guitar amps, professional standard line level for recording interfaces, etc. The usual high JHS build quality - for a reliable, professional all-in-one gigging / backup solution - could make this a very popular product. The fx could also be simple enough to be equally functional with bass guitar - especially since Josh always assures us that all his pedals can work perfectly well on other instruments, eg no loss of low end on bass.
