Keep doing what you do!! Very cool to see the versatility of a classical instrument like the harp!!!

The whole idea of a musician (Emily) playing live with an effects DJ (Russ) is a concept which needs to be expanded. There's a lot of potential there. We think of multiple musicians playing individual parts and working with each other. But the idea of one musician modifying another musician's product is really cool. And I would think it requires a lot of trust as well.

I worked on a piece recently where we did this! Basically had one person holding down chords on a piano to lift the dampers while I was on the inside brushing the strings with a paintbrush and then that went through a bunch of pedals that were being controlled live by a third person
@TheSquareOnes2 жыл бұрын
I've been thinking the same thing since finding their channel, it's such a great way to add so much depth and complexity to add effects in a live setting. Wouldn't even look that out of place either, countless bands have had someone standing off to the side near a bunch of electronics so you just have to put pedal boards in the place of some synths or turntables (or even combine the roles, I'd imagine lots of keyboard players are great enough at multitasking to work a few knob twists into a part) to add this to the instrumentation.

I think Jeremy Michael Ward used to do that with the Mars Volta. He left this world too soon

What a masterclass in creativity! Just amazing. Emily and Russ are brilliant guests, hope you make plenty more content together. Not to talk about their stamina - from 20 hour drives to 7 hours livestreams! Two comments - 1) That “why did I choose the guitar, I wish I would know how to play other instruments” comment would have been more believable if we didn’t have years’ worth of ample evidence that most of the JHS crew and Nick in particular are wizards and witches that can play all instruments AT WILL. 2) The fact that you even incorporated Master Joshua, M.A. playing his main instrument (a laptop for writing dissertations) made me deliriously happy. To summarize, I don’t know what’s in the water in KC, but I WANT SOME!

Two of my favorite channels, coming together again! Even better than expected, and my expectations were sky high, let me tell you. Key revelation: she does not like glissando. Certainly understandable. The percentage of glissando in the harp playing people have heard over the years has been alarmingly high. Goes back to I Love Lucy, even further. I'm old. I know. There was always one female band member - the harpist - and they always had her do tons of glissando, very little else. Something about that seems vaguely unsavory.
