My take on the music has been that it is like a fancy dish or even a smoothie where ingredients from all over the world are mixed together to make a unique flavor. Some combinations taste more like they came from one part of the world more than others but there are still other ingredients mixed in, to where it will never be a dish native to any country. And by selecting specific flavors and mixing them together in specific ways Hoyo can then cook up their own unique dishes that are designed to be the flavor that they intended to use for each tribe/area. That way they can make each one feel unique without them feeling like a straight up copy of a real world equivalent. Basically, the fact that it is a jumbled mess of various types of music that then comes out sounding amazing was exactly their goal. I think this was a great approach, instead of basing the nation nearly entirely off of one ethnic group. More people can relate and the music is entirely uniquely Genshin. Instead of a "I recognize this dish" meal they cooked up something that can only be described as a "I recognize this flavor, but what in the world is this mixed with?" dish.

Somthing to clarify here, in addition to latin amreican culture, Natlan is also inspired by african culture and even Polynesian culture. Natlan its a mix of a lot of cultures with diffrent tribes, each tribe with a diffrent theme.

I don't know this for sure since I don't look at leaks, but based on what I know, the "latin america"/south America themed areas aren't out yet. Not that I expect them to go hardcore into making them fully pull from real life like they've done with the weird african Savanna/pacific islander hybrid they've done with the base region. 1st track you listened to is supposed to be a "restrarunt hotel" track. Next two are 2 different combat tracks, and the final one is one of the big stadium tracks (the stadium also has the hotel in it.) The whole soundtrack is so good, there's very very few standouts as so much is tied to certain areas and I love it all.

Technically the areas we’ve seen in natlan are already sprinkled with “latin” elements, musically at the very least. In the children of the echoes, the shouts sound like that of conjunto andino groups. The scions of the canopy have basically almost everyone with quechua names (idk why kinich is the one with a mayan on therefore, natlan has this problem where they can’t commit to making one tribe at least be consistently homogenous). But also throughout the entirety of the nation thus far there’s ocarinas, quenas, and panflute, all of which are from hispanoamerica. I think rather than it being “latin” its more hispanoamerican for sure. Saying natlan is based off latin america implies haiti and quebec are referenced, of which obviously hoyo thought instead of these two places that polynesia was more fitting. It’s all quite weird as an end result
@maxvieira25952 ай бұрын
What you mention at 8:38 seems to be a leitmotiv present in at least 1 music of every region's combat music, or at least sounds very similar. Like Rite of battle and His resolution in Mondstadt, Gallant challenge in Liyue and Overlord of the thunderstorm in Inazuma.

Hoyo-Mix employee 1: How many Latino genres are we putting in Venture of Tonalamatl? Hoyo-Mix employee 2: YES I've been hoping to see more Latin American reactions to Natlan as one myself (although since I'm Venezuelan I don't expect to see my culture represented directly in any way. I'm just happy to see capybaras and flamingos lol.) Really enjoyed your video and how you went from disappointed to impressed real quick, that's really the Genshin music experience. As for songs you might've missed, I think The Heights of Rumikunamanta (BGM from the Scions of the Canopy) should count. It starts more on the African side of things, but in the middle it mixes it up with salsa and has some really nice brass and percussion. It makes me feel I'm back in Caracas in the 90's taking a bus from school and the driver has the radio on. Which is a really interesting nostalgic vibe to have in a fantasy town with green dinosaurs! One of my favorites in the Natlan OST for sure

Its kind of lame in a sense that hoyo thought of “representing” indigenous cultures but then label it as “latin america”. These two things are not even the same, especially when its not a hispanic-indigenous culture like what we have today in this day and age but only the usage of indigenous elements themselves. Thats because if its not hispanic then its even less “latin”, so why tag it like that in the end? It’s also lame in the sense that if hoyo didn’t do it all half-baked, then places that are hispanic and exist because of hispanic culture (colombia, venezuela, argentina, chile) could have totally been able to be put without too much of an effort (using cuatros, using 6/8 cueca-like rhythm, using tango, chacarera, or cuarteto tradicional motifs). Hoyo did natlan super weird because its not like they even avoid placing hispanic culture in the end, they love referencing cuba and puerto rico but at the same time both of these places were basically provinces of Spain for a time. How can it not get more hispanic than that, yet does hoyo even know this? Hoyo’s approach to natlan in the end seems to be more guided by exoticism though for sure.
@marvellousbalogun38262 ай бұрын
@@Someone45356 I think a good question is, did Hoyo label this region as Latin Amercia or has community done this? As far as i'm aware no where has hoyo ever actually said that Natlan was going to be or is entirely based on latin america. I think this confusion is the communities doing ultimately because of wishful thinking. I do agree though that exoticism plays a role in Natlan, but this isn't any different from fountaine, or sumeru in my opinion. All of these regions have an exotic fascination in there approach. It also important to recognize that what we have now, is just like 30% of Natlan so, there is a lot to come.
@Someone453562 ай бұрын
@@marvellousbalogun3826 well and in that instance your own point rings true, hoyo does like to fall back on exoticism more often than not. I saw the leaks for the fire tribe and the clothing for the people was in a sort of way even more out there than anything we’ve seen for the nation so far. Also about “latin america”, there are some clues that hoyo definitely left. During one of the earlier dev videos before natlan was released there was a conspicuous book called “history of latin america” or something among these lines, not only that but during the stream where they interviewed the chinese devs I’m more than certain that they did name drop where the inspiration for a lot of natlan came from (in this case supposedly latin america). I think the problem with the exoticism isn’t that its necessarily in itself a problem, but more like a disappointment. Because the one thing that the imaginations of parts of the world lack in is the even weirder, colorful, depthful possibilities that one realizes there are when it comes to the real deal most of the time. It’s like one of those times where “reality is stranger than fiction” shines the most, meanwhile exoticism shuts itself to a few or more ideas and just caters to a more general taste with not as much potential in the end.
