Makoto vs Hugo: the battle of the reads. I feel like it's pretty alright for Hugo. Hugo has a lot of health, so one mistake won't kill you. He has good pokes in neutral and he's very scary up close, so the Makoto has to figure out how to close distance without getting into grab range, or without staying in grab range for too long. Hugo has moves like backbreaker, meat squasher and lariat to force Makoto out of her comfort zone and rush her down. This really feels like a fight that can go either way depending on who gets the right reads. I would rather have Gigas than Hammer Mountain because of the threat of landing a Gigas forcing them to play more scared. They can't go as ham if they fear losing 60%+ life off one super.

gigas is a must in this matchup because it forces makoto to lose her turn after hayate

I'm a pretty big max dood fan, and his little bit of online play 3s has got me hankering for more. If your the new online warrior, you might see me some more. Exceptionally entertaining and rare matchup, even from what I've seen in tourney play. You got under the makoto 's skin, halfway in the set, and got some of that big boy grappler fear in them. Hype stuff! I'll check out some of your twitch streams if I need a fix.

I am a super low level player but I like the hugo makoto match up more than akuma makoto. then again, makoto is the only character I use hugo against and it mostly involves the 50/50 vortex that he does. it has worked online but I don't think it's a very viable solution. it's just an excuse for me to play hugo sometimes.

Hugo is tha best match up against mokoto. She can't dizzy him with that combo. He can raise his defense. He has more range. She can't out grab him

It's funny how matchups change based on skill level. My roommates and I just picked up this game- one of 'em plays Makoto, and I play Hugo. Everywhere I see people say this matchup sucks but meanwhile beginner me is over here like "Oh? you missed your one frame link off a command throw? That's rough, lemme buffer this 360 real quick..." The amount Makoto has to work at a low level to get damage compare to Hugo is kinda wild honestly. 😂

I recently got into third strike, and my buddy who plays with me plays Hugo. I'm really bad at third strike specifically. I have no idea when my turn is against my friend's Hugo, and I always get SPD'd for my insolence. I know I'm supposed to have the advantage, but I get SPD'd after landing hayate, my anti-airs get blown up, and I don't even know how to punish even Hugo's worst moves like the flying butt slam or standing HK. There aren't many videos of Hugo vs Makoto online, and the few that exist have the opponents playing a clean game where both parties respect eachother. It's hard to learn from since in our games, I'm literally dying to Hugo's worst moves lol

I main urien and this helps me with the makoto MU. She can beat a lot of my primary tools with good spacing and execution so it can be a streaky match for either character. I swear this game is like chess in high level play: you try to read your opponent and punish accordingly.

Have you tried hammer break as your super? It's not as flashy as ye olde parry 720, but it offers a better combo game, more meter, and additional movement options. There's something identitarian about using the 720 super if you play grapplers, but - in practical play - I'm finding Hammer Break to have easier execution, more uses, and less meter waste.

De'AnDre Curry top 5 are chun yun ken urien and makoto Whiffing normals is really important for meter economy Throws are super safe but don’t amount to much Zoning is trash because parries Parries make everything unsafe for the most part so it’s nice to learn the timing for a supers last hit Jumping in is really unsafe unless you’re akuma Neutral grab is only good with urien and even then that’s debatable. Always pick a direction Taunts are important if you’re name is q Dudley ken ryu Alex or akuma And lastly super is incredibly important to play style. To use Hugo as an example sa1 is for if you don’t wanna rely on ex’s and focus on a damaging super with invincibility. Sa2 is for the exact opposite. Sa3 is if you want the flexibility of both options but not the pure extent of either. These kinda decisions can impact even how you fundamentally play certain characters (Alex urien and ryu coming to mind)

man I know this is very old but I think makoto is 8 - 2 against hugo. Her air approach is super hard to deal with plus you have to constantly check the dashes, is a nightmare. Worse than ken and urien and chun together. Dealing with makoto without a dp is rough

If you have yellow health you have a health and damage boost over your opponents yellow health. Catch them in tha super when they have yellow just about to be Orange. You will take them out savage godlike yea ya ya :D
