YES TO SMINO!!! Black Swan is one of my favorite albums in the last 10 years. So groovy, slick, and smooth and it will introduce you to NoName and Raven Lenae (who is the vocalist on lauder too) both of those artist’s collaborate heavily with Saba which is an amazing artist from the Chicago scene. So the melting pot of artists are JID, Earthgang, Smino, Saba, NoName, Chance the Rapper, Denzel Curry, Raven Lenae, and list goes on but that batch have made some of the best independent of the new generation. Ok rant over lol but

father son holy smoke off of blkswn is legit one of the best songs ive ever heard - found it pretty soon after it came out and its been in my rotation pretty consistently ever since, something about it is just so entrancing and he falls in and out of the pockets in that knocking beat so easily. great intro to smino bc he’s done nothing but impress since and his new album is great (curtains is my favorite)

@@TheDimsh It's the only Kendrick collab I could picture being potentially amazing. Both of them have similar voices and vocal ranges which they frequently vary, but different enough to distinguish from one another. Both of them can rap their asses off so that could bring a great competitive element into the mix of them trying to outperform each other. Both can also sing and that's where JID takes the cake, Kendrick has a bit more diversity in overall sound which would be interesting for JID to play around with. It's genuinely the one collab I'd love to see in the upper echelon of the rap game right now other than maybe a Pusha T/Jay Z collab.

Continuing on the point of people being surprised by JID's singing, he has an absolutely beautiful verse on Mereba's "Sandstorm" which came out in 2018 (I think). TNS came out my senior year of high school and I'll always remember when my friend first played D/vision on the aux for us a few weeks before the album came out. TFS capturing the progression in his personal life and musicianship makes me so happy as a fan.

Oh another thought as I remember this album is how much emphasis was put on JID's old Pontiac that he'd lived in and was still driving at the release of the album. He references it most prominently in Never "pushin the same piece of shit until I get me a Bentley" and Hoodbooger. I just thought it was cool a rapper signed to a major label was transparent enough to tell his audience he wasn't rich

As a person who has experienced drug addiction, and been surrounded by it my entire young life; I think it's important to note with drug references, is that they are not always intended to *romanticize* the speakers usage of that drug, nor the drug itself, but often an honest showcase of what the person is experiencing in their life. It's important to understand that some people just want to be brutally honest with their art, or whatever, and in some cases you will see a person struggling with drug abuse. great vid as usual. best wishes, path.

2:45 if you do I recommend you start with 2014 Forest Hills Drive. That’s definitely the best way to get to know him and his music without going into his first and second albums

My all time favorite album lesgoo. You’re right that JID could always sing, people just forget about hereditary for whatever reason I think, or don’t know about it. One of my favorite songs of his too

JID and EarthGang are part of a larger collaboration called Spillage Village. Check out their live acoustic Tiny Desk. Incredible.

I would LOVE to see a 6lack album reaction, another great ATL artist and mainly sings but also raps. Also JID, Earthgang, Mereba, and 6lack are all apart of a group called Spillage Village and they have a few projects together under that name as well as usually being featured on each other's main projects

If you want a sort of inbetween look from this album to the forever story, he has a song with mereba that came out in 2019 called sandstorm, where he does some great singing as well

you should listen to the cool by Lupe fiasco he is known for his creative concept albums and lyrics having absurd depth and meaning I think the cool is a good place to start in the album there's literally song called dumb it down which is basically response to crictics saying he's doing too much. I would love to see you wrap your head around that one
