I want to know how this compares in terms of sheer image quality with the pocket 4k. I know the new pocket 4k has much more features but the image quality i have seen from it is far inferior to this even though it is supposed to have a newer sensor. I am torn, debating just buying a used one of these for the same price

Nice review. It is so frustrating that this is the only Global Shutter camera on the market right now. I wish Blackmagic, or someone, would come up with a more usable, smaller and with an e-mount version of this camera with better sensor. But I guess for now we will have to cope with that. So I'm gonna stick to renting this camera I don't really want to buy it. As much as I love the Global Shutter.

I'm with you man. I've been looking at global shutter vs rolling shutter all day, studying for my next purchase. I don't know if I can get a rolling shutter camera. I see the difference and it drives me crazy.

how difficult is it to avoid the fixed pattern noise? And how often do you get clipped highlights? Can you also open the blacks in adobe camera raw without getting too much noise? Thanks! Good review.
@JifferRiffic8 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the Fix noise pattern is a downfall for blackmagic cameras. I've gone through the Pocket Cinema Camera, The 4K production Camera, a Micro Cinema camera, all are effected by it. Or maybe i just get bad luck when i buy the cameras from Blackmagic. Shoot in low ISO like 400Max. You will see it more if you lift your blacks to the grays a bit. I had the issue where one line on my sensor looks brown on the footage so if I touched my blacks it would really show a brown line right down my entire image.

apparently fpn issue has been addressed and confirmed. i dont own one but im looking to get one. faymus media did a review and he said the firmware update fixed it no problem. have you had any success with that firmware? also, have you been able to mount the powerbase switronix battery on the bottom of your cage? thanks for the awesome review too

Hello Thanks very much for this great review. In regards to recording audio, do you suggest to use external audio recorders and sync in post or a good shotgun, boom or lav mic etc can be used to record audio while recording video internally both at the same time? Pardon me for my ignorance but I think I saw a video where someone used an xlr adapter to connect xlr mics for high quality audio recording internally but then can it actually do that? Thanks & Regards.
@JifferRiffic6 жыл бұрын
Amit Rajkumar Bagai external only the cameras inboard audio is junk . I wouldn't trust it even as a back up audio, with that being said, you should still always have audio recording on the camera as well just in case you lose all your external audio somehow.

Jiffer Hi thanks very much for your kind reply. I like BMPC 4K and am also looking into UMP. Would you buy an used BMPC 4K like in your video in 2018 or would you try to push for UMPro 4.6k or wait and buy BMPCC 4K once it comes out. Thanks.
@JifferRiffic6 жыл бұрын
Amit Rajkumar Bagai honestly I wouldn't buy a black magic at all in 2018, there are so many other camera choices out there now that can do more for far less. Even the image quality can be matched. I'm currently shooting all Sony now. Better low light better sensors IBS internal. Ergonomics are great, small and lite. Way cheaper in the over all cost. I know it's not a dedicated Cinema camera like the black magic line, but all cameras are someday going to pretty much reach a point where they are all the same, small and packed with features, amazing quality as well. I would rent one or borrow one before I buy to test it out.

If you know what you are shooting beforehand, plan accordingly and have your rig built up NONE of those smaller cams come even close to the image quality this thing can produce. Those are convenience cameras, when you aren't going to lug around a full rig just in case you might shoot something lol

I still use my 4K production camera. It is the only camera that has a global shutter. So I can do whip pans or have fast action. And not suffer jello or step ladder images. Also shooting concerts or weddings where there are strobe lights or people doing flash photography. Other cameras have that ugly banding. That is white horizontal bands across picture. No problem on this camera.

Did you stop using the Micro Cinema Camera?

READY, SET, WOAH I left all of black magic cameras. Most of them suffer from sensor patterns after couple hundred hours of use. It's a known issue but I see no fix in sight
