I'm out at the mouth of the Niagara River today, geared up with the Stingnose jigging spoons targeting lake trout.
It's late December, and it's been a warm enough winter that I was able to launch the boat and get at the mouth Niagara River to jig for lake trout. Last time we were out here, we were getting some nice little fish.
I'm using jigging the stingnose about 4-6 inches off of the bottom while drifting along. Specifically I'm switching between the 1-3/4oz Stingnose, and a 3/4oz Stingnose depending on which one produces more fish.
It was about three casts in before we started landing fish. I had a great day out here jigging for lake trout!

Your one of the only people on youtube that doesn't stick their fingers in their gills when releasing! Love the ethics

HI Zachary - great to hear from you and thanks for writing in....I always try not to but when I was a kid, that was the standard way to do it (not in the gills, but rather just under the gill cover) so it was a bad habit that I had to break...if you are going to keep the fish, it doesn't matter but you are absolutely correct, it's best not to if you are going to release them. Hope 2017 is off to a great start and brings you plenty of good fishing :)

Hey Ivo, great video and nice fish! I had a quick question, what time of year is it good to start going carp fishing?
@thundermistlures
@thundermistlures 8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Conklin Hi Kevin, carp like a bit warmer weather....as the water starts to warm up, the carp will become more active. Here in Ontario, the bite should start to pick up by may :)

Nice lakers. What would you suggest for lakers from the shore. I have been suggested slip sinker rig with a minnow on it.
@thundermistlures
@thundermistlures 8 жыл бұрын
+The Fishing Experiment You can use spoons or spinners form shore - both are good....If you are going to use minnows, try to use large ones and a t-turn rig will allow the minnows to swim freely, enticing more hits....her is a video using a t-turn rig with minnows, for both walleye and lake trout - good luck on the water kzbin.info/www/bejne/nF7Vg3xnfdJgfrs

Is boat control and staying vertical over the jig as vital for lake trout as it is for pickerel when current drifting?
@thundermistlures
@thundermistlures 5 жыл бұрын
Yes it is, as you need to always have full control over your jig and ensure that it is not dragging bottom, as you will get hung up rather quickly :)

Hello Ivo, nice fish! would this method work for inland lying Trout on inland lakes, not rivers so much, but in land lakes? I live in Wisconsin and there are a lot of inland lakes that have Brook, Brown, Rainbow, Splake, Tiger and Lake Trout and have always wondered how to target these fish on smaller lakes? Thanks! and I enjoy all your shows.

Hey Ivo, I mostly do shore fishing can you give me some tips on how to not get your line/hook getting stuck on rocks or weeds. Whenever I cast my line out when retreating it gets caught on rocks or weeks how do I avoid these situations when I am shore fishing? All I can do is cut my line and set up the hooks again..
@thundermistlures
@thundermistlures 8 жыл бұрын
+Vbhgbjj Ghibbv Try having a longer line between your hook and the sinker - also, tie a lighter line on the sinker as compared to your main line, so if you do get snagged, all you loose is the sinker and you save the rest of your rig :)

I have an important question, why do you reel in your rod slow when you catch a fish? If the explanation is to long just answer it in your next video please
@thundermistlures
@thundermistlures 8 жыл бұрын
+Migs PlayZ- minecraft ....2 main reasons....if you reel him in too quickly, you will need to have your drag set very tight and you run the risk of breaking him off and secondly, if the fish is in deep water, he will need time to adjust his air bladder as he comes up :)

You refer to your two rods as Medium-action and Medium-Heavy action. I think you mean Medium/Medium-Heavy power, not action. There's no such thing as Medium-Heavy action. It's either Slow, Medium, Fast, or X-Fast. Action is where the rod starts flexing to where it stops along the blank. Power is how much pressure is required to load the rod to the point along the blank where it flexes.
