I was considering getting an inexpensive jigsaw to do a specific DIY project involving scrolling cuts, and your video showed up when I searched for the brand I ended up getting. It was the PERFECT intro for someone who has used various power tools, but is a noob at this specific one. The fact that it cuts at 45 degree angles increases the versatility of it. Thank you so much! And yes - full-sized circular saws are scary! I bought a mini one and it was perfect for the job, but it's still really noisy!
@janeshartzer77203 ай бұрын
OMG! This video is excellent! I know absolutely nothing about tools. But I’m sick of needing a man to cut my simple craft needs. I was looking at circular saws and jig saws on Marketplace. But they usually have no instructions and no/few blades. Watching your video really soothed my nervousness. I feel much more confident. Your presentation skills are excellent and the close ups of the parts of the drill are excellent. Thx so much!

If you mark the center of your circle, you can put a screw into it. Tie a piece of twine to it and the other end to your jigsaw. Obviously, you have to adjust the length to get your blade along the edge of your circle but it is pretty helpful in keeping you from straying too far off course. I do this all the time for subwoofer cutouts on enclosures.

I saw this tip on another channel. If you don't have the immediate want or capabilities to cut the pilot hole prior to cutting the circle as shown in the video it's completely possible to plunge cut with a jigsaw. Simply start the saw with the shoe up on the front edge and the blade above the wood and then slowly plunge the blade into the surface keeping a firm grip, while keeping the front of the shoe steady against the wood. I tried it and it works great.

Very nice tutorial, knackers! Pro tip from the construction yard: If you don't have an inverted blade but you need your cut to be 100% clean, hold your machine upside down in a vice, switch and lock it on, and use the base plate as a sawing table. This way, your blade will pull into your visible surface. This is not safe, not good for the machine. But it'll get the job done.

Hello, new subscriber here. Just want to say thank you for this informational tutorial. I am a newbie to using power tools, and doing "DIY" woodworking projects. Started out using cardboard for my personal projects but, have developed a curiosity for woodworking. Been wondering how a jigsaw works and now I know because, of this video. I made my first (cable spool) foot ottoman a few weeks ago. My daughter was so impressed she has requested a coffee table ottoman and, 2 smaller sitting ottomans for her home. My children have always been my greatest incouragers when it comes to learning new things. With the right supplies I have confidence I will fulfill her wishes. However, I need to get a jigsaw...so your tips about blades helped to encourage me to move forward with my decisions. 😏😊💝

Thank you so much for this! A great confidence building video that gives simple information without patronising, a hard task! I felt so fed up about my cutting skills but I feel more able to do it now, to the wood!

If I had to choose only 2 power tools for the rest of my life it would be a drill or maybe impact driver and a circular saw. One to cut wood and one to screw em together ! I was making push sticks and had a hell of a time with my jigsaw trying to make curved cuts and the blade wasnt cutting straight down but now I see I shouldve used my thin scroll blades. Was having a lot of binding issues and non square cuts. I got a dad joke. Whats the difference between a hippo and a zippo? One weighs a lot and the other one is... A little lighter.. (I'll see myself out)

Thank you for the video. I'm buying my first power tool for cutting and it's going to be a jigsaw. Yes, I find a circular saw scary and am not getting one (yet) even though that's what I see professional carpenters using. For DIYer like me, this will do...for now.

Good luck with it! The jigsaw is a very handy tool 👍😁🇦🇺

I do have a circular saw, but I'll still grab the jigsaw when I only need to make a short straight cut, because it is lighter and easier to control. For a long straight cut, then definitely the circular saw.

@@loganmedia4401 I agree. A circular saw makes more sense for long straight cuts. Especially if you are doing it often. I got my jigsaw and it's slow. Especially on hardwood. I probably need a different type of blade. But given that I only use it occasionally, I'm fine with it. Oh, and yeah, it makes it easy to cut curves in plywood. Just did some yesterday.
