@@lunarialoonatic even with the box style, all they're mvs look really nice and are well produced. they have amazing songs and they had really good promotions when they initially debuted. there's nothing a company can really do if a group doesn't catch public attention. and the fact they even continued to push clc while not making major profits is kudos for them. unfortunately tho cube is under new management and they've already stated they won't be putting the same energy into clc. it's probably best at this point for the girls to pursue their own individual careers.

I honestly think Cube regretted debuting Clc the way they did and just wanted to give up on them. But they wanted to avoid ruining the company’s image by just disbanding them or leaving them behind. So they wanted to seem like they tried to make them popular without actually spending money and resources to do it. So that people would think Clc simply wasn’t popular or interesting enough to become a mainstream girl group. And Cube wouldn’t look like that bad of a company. But you know, they failed. Because Cube is trash at almost everything

CLC were not as successful as other cube groups so they were not managed as well then they were unsuccessful because they were mismanaged. It's is an issue of the chicken and the egg. There are so many variables that all went wrong and we will never truly know why

Way too many variables I will say the first mistake was their debut concept and song, it wasn’t a bad song but the cute concept was over saturated at the time and they should’ve came out with something that would’ve made them stand out. @@kep1iancheshire187 to me at first they did a good job promoting and getting the girls out there through pre debut. they had a consistent first yr, but even with the good promo they failed to gain any real traction. and in 2019 they did 3 quality comebacks and still remained at a medium level of popularity. they have a small dedicated fanbase and a bunch of casual listeners who say they're underrated but don't buy anything and then wonder why the company doesn't put more into them. clc operates on a negative and has been for a long time. there's no denying tht their management has been iffy, but the company continuously put more than they really had to into the group (and with the management change, it sounds like thts coming to an end). i will say cube could have been better about getting them on variety shows and at least trying to get them more cfs or brand deals.

@@twice_velvet it wasn't good promo. check out their early music videos. low budget af. same goes for their early albums that were imo mediocre to say the least. first love was good though. then you have all the hiatuses. 9 months hiatus right after debut. that is not good promo. cube pushing the cute concept for several comebacks even though they did poorly with that and had tons of competiton from groups with similar concept but bigger agencies who promoted the hell out of their groups, like jyp with twice. it's true that clc doesn't sell well when it comes to physical albums but they are popular enough to chart in on billboard top 10 world digital albums and singles every comeback the last 2-3 years. so the interest in them and their music is there but cube fails them everytime clc manages to gain some attention and interest. the album sales are increasing every comeback too. 2019 was a good year but then followed by another 1 year hiatus. "me" and "devil" comebacks in 2019 were digital singles only, so no physical albums could have been purchased. and fans can't buy albums that don't get restocked or printed.

The lack of communication between companies and the artists and fans is one of the biggest reasons groups """"flop"""", why they fall apart. Cube keeps ignoring everything the fans and the girls want, and they took so long to say anything about things they should've talked about, or they completely ignored them. I see this times and times again, and it's heartbreaking. Here's the thing. CLC are rather unsuccessful DOMESTICALLY. 1.Due to the mismanagement mistakes that they have dealt with from debut to now, they weren't able to make a stable fanbase in Korea and got overshadowed by so many artists. 2.Cube had so many opportunities to benefit the group.Giving promotions to boost their international fanbase, restocking their albums and have them participate in shows like Queendom.THEY JUST DIDN'T and we all don't know why. 3.If you are asking why they rarely win at music/award shows, they were mostly competing against groups who did DOMESTICALLY better than them or the competition is too tight.People know who CLC is but they prefer cuter concepts so yeah.(Or 50-70% percents of K-pop fans are casual listeners than actual fans.) Just because your artists has gain more views compared to others, that doesn't mean you're bound to make a one smash hit in the industry in one go. 4.In conclusion,Cube is the problem why CLC are wasted in Korea because they practically gave up on them. They weren't able to have a world tour,an actual lightstick,a full album or even recognition in their own country. Thus,it leads to why CLC is unsuccessful DOMESTICALLY.

I think when Cube released Hobgoblin and saw success in the West they should’ve capitalized on that. I know Korea is the priority but it’s better to have success internationally than no success at all. For example ATEEZ originally wasn’t popular in Korea. However some predebut projects they did got some attention in the West. So their company, KQ, promoted in the States and Europe. Their popularity grew and grew and eventually grew in Korea as well. That quote the staff told Sorn is bs. It's true to an extent, but its the company's job to get merch, restock albums, promote, book appearances and come through with their promises of activities. The girls job is to perform, not do everything themselves. It's heartbreaking to hear it because they're extremely talented and had so much potential. They girls even had to beg to try a new concept and their idea worked, but the company went back to their old ways and didn't even promote them. The company failed them horribly and tried to imply that it was their fault.

I think after watching videos about DIA and CLC I have realized that a group will have many troubles if they do not have a solid concept. It’s a huge downfall of both groups, if they picked something then the fans would know what to anticipate for new releases. Where Are You is an amazing song but I am just baffled at how it was a TITLE TRACK right after Hobgoblin. It would have served better as a b-side that was promoted alongside a different title track to show CLCs versatility (like how RV sometimes does with a b-side). I think their whole career could have been so different if they had released another Girl Crush track that year.

In general, I feel the biggest issue is that Cube never really invested in building the "branding" of the group. I mean, there's a lot of people saying "I´m not a fan, but I like them and I think they're really talented" and it's like... wait... if you like them, why are you not a fan? And I think the reason is Cube never helped to create an IDENTITY, they never nurtured the bond between the group and the fans. I see many people say "I LIKE CLC", but few say "I AM Cheshire". Personally, I started to get interested in kpop this year, because of the quarantine time watching KZbin, so I didn't have any previous preference for a particular group (I didn't even know any groups), and as I explored the genre, CLC became my favorite. I'm so impressed about their versatility, but I realize that probably that's what hurt their career so much. Now I'm really commited to following them in whatever projects they have in the future, even if they won't be together anymore.

Unfortunately it's extremely common for companies to debut a group, expect them to just magically do good and then if they don't they will start promoting them less and less. Which makes zero sense, if you want a group to do better obviously you do it by promoting them more, maybe you try new things (not new concepts, I mean sending them to variety, debuting a subunit or a solo member, having them act and so on). Because you need the group to both get new fans and for the general public to notice them. CLC got none of that. From what I see Cube had no long-term plans for them, they're just doing everything almost as an afterthought. I'm seriously concerned with how detached people who run these companies are from how their decisions affect their idols. I imagine they start multiple projects, then look at the numbers and focus on the money makers and let the rest slowly die out because no-one wants to deal with it? At least that's what happens at my job, where we sell products. And these companies absolutely treat their idols as products (instead of treating them as employees) except these aren't some boxes in a warehouse that can wait there indefinitely, this is real people's lives and careers they're playing with.

The story behind the leader change was discussed in one of their reality shows. It can be seen as another example of mismanagement of the group. Seunghee was told by her superior(s) that to be a leader means 'you can't be friends' with your subordinates. This resulted in her being isolated and stressed out, and the cohesion of the group suffered. After the leader change she became close with the other girls.

Okay buckle up! Let's start at the beginning, Cube tried to do the cute concept with CLC in a year that was flooded with cute on top of that Twice coming out the same year was a big hit to CUBE and the girls. This has NOTHING to do with either, Twice was just a true monster group. This being said everything after was CUBEs lack of know how to act. The culture in Korea was moving to idols being in the public eye 24/7 and they didn't let CLC do this. And while Sorn noted once the album is out it's up to the girls to get wins, before that release there is A LOT that goes into it. Announcements, teasers, idols on shows and radio hinting, hell even having their nail techs post pictures of the nails on insta helps and yet CUBE did now of this and the girls had no idea this should been done. All in all CUBE was hoping for an "easy" cash in with a cute group to go with their hip hop group and boys. When it didn't happen they peaced out. I also want to note, when the video of Sorn talking about her and Elkie's pay being so much less verse the rest of the group I notice CUBE really started moving towards focusing on getting a new girl group out. They didn't like being called out for sure.

CUBE is to blame 1. They are the main reason CLC has low album sales, they never restock their albums for fans to buy them. 2. Never invested on even making merchandises for CLC to boost their income, they underestimate cheshires and CLC too much. 3. They NEVER try to promote CLC overseas where the girls are evidently more popular. An overseas tour would surely give them loads of money so what's stopping them???? 4. They just dont care at all. They never release official statements regarding clc unless their reputation is involved. Isnt it their job to protect the idols whenever they got caught up in issues?? Because I have never seen CUBE do that to CLC. 5. They manipulate the girls into thinking that it's their fault they are not "successful". That's a major red flag. It's like a parent blaming their child for being a failure when they are the ones who should support and help them. Why are people still overlooking this issue?????

It's enough to look at the stuff the girls are doing on their own to see that the reason they're not successful is 100% because they're mismanaged. As artists they got it all - they're talented, hard-working and got a good connection with their fans. The reason why they got the success they do have it's due to the things that rely on the girls themselves. If Cube actually did even the bare minimum the right way, they could have been as big as Mamamoo and (G)-Idle are now. I really feel the Helicopter cb could have been done a lot better, you can just easily tell that Cube gave up on the girls even without reading fans comments and threads. At this point, Cube do as little as they can just so the girls doesn't sue them and I'm SO GLAD Elkie did what she did - they definitely deserve a lot better! I don't blame (G)-Idle for the CLC's mismanagement, I'm just happy they didn't get the same fate and I hope they will continue their work successfully, especially knowing the girls themselves are friends (and let's be honest (G)-Idle ahs problems of their own with the company).

The thing that makes me mad as well is how Cube completely ignored CLC's international fanbase. Granted, Korean fanbases are very important, but it's obvious Cube didn't care about promoting them well in Korea, so they could have focused on gaining more international fans (Loona, Dreamcatcher and Kard are some groups who have made this work pretty well). Instead they sabotaged CLC's career and kept them from getting as popular as they could have been. Also, Elkie could have been promoted much more as the Chinese member and Sorn as the Thai member. CLC has a somewhat good fanbase in both countries, had they been promoted there they could have done much better.

Yeeun wrote "i like it" and Yujiin and Seungyeon designed the choreography. Same goes for "to the sky" the girls made the dance on their own. It's just that CUBE is trash basically and doesn't want to contribute in the least to promote the girls or at least fix their shitty mistakes. If I remember correctly, Cube had a lot of internal power struggles amongst the employees/leadership and financial issues (due to Beast, now called Highlight, departing the label) in 2016. (G)-idle gets treated better because of corporate dynamics; Soyeon is mad talented, and any other company in SK would snatch up Soyeon in a heartbeat ("must recruit" they tagged her) if she ever expressed dissatisfaction with Cube and a willingness to jump ship. Most other artists would get blacklisted for jumping, but companies like SM would literally go to war with all the legal resources at their command to have and keep Soyeon for themselves. So, Cube keeps Soyeon happy, and Soyeon generously uses her influence for the betterment of her entire group. Nobody in CLC can match that kind of "pull".

Seungyeon says hi. I feel like you are missing the point of the video which is advertisement. Soyeon is not only mad talented but mad popular because she got attention on produce 101. Remember that the reason a lot of companies send trainees s for them to be discovered and liked talent or not. They the ones that can make the trend. If cube had kept their mouth shut about eunbin while she was at produce 101, who knows what ClC will be today. I’m not saying that talent doesn’t matter, but promotions lead to popularity . Do you think if cube had announced soyeon as the new member there would be a difference no. If it is about talent, they have a power house singer, a choreographer, some one with a cute appeal(eunbin), and a pretty good rapper . Besides not a lot of the girl groups that are on top today have members with artistry like Gidle or clc yet they are still fine .

I think the failure began right from the beginning and snowballed towards their end. CLC from the start never had a clear color as a group which is then followed by too much drastic flip flopping not only concepts but sounds. Red Velvet for example change concepts often but their music never stray too far away from their essence. I also cant help but think that the members are not cohesive with each other. Sure they seem like good friends but on stage, they dont seem to be blend all that well. Some look stiff or slightly awkward with fierce concepts and the other half despise the cutesy concepts. Cube completely failed to find a middle ground that could highlight their strengths and not alienate their audience at the same time.

First off, I agree that 99% of the fault of CLC's position falls on CUBE. There's a DIRECT comparison available with Dreamcatcher, who also started with a cute concept, also redebuted/rebranded into a more mature and challenging concept (during the SAME WEEK in January 2017), and also are much more popular overseas than in Korea - and are now one of the bigger girl groups - completely due to smart and consistent promotion and development. Had CUBE followed the Happyface Entertainment playbook, CLC would be in a lot better position today. That said, I don't fault CUBE for taking weeks to respond to Elkie's legal letter and statement, nor do I fault what they did say for being brief. This is the world of attorneys and corporate HR management. Elkie certainly tried to work things out in private before her legal letter was made public, before the rest of the world knew anything was up other than her absence from activities in November & December. Once Elkie's attorney filed her claim it was not in CUBE's or Elkie's interest to say more publicly as it could impair any chance for a settlement. Closed-door negotiations went on between the legal teams, an agreement was reached, and CUBE said all it had to say and nothing more. They were never going to address Elkie's charges in public unless the situation went to a full-fledged court trial, and I am sure the settlement includes a non-disclosure agreement that will keep both CUBE and Elkie from talking about the situation. Indeed, asked about the last three months in an interview for the BayPlus+ magazine photo feature she did, Elkie would only say she has no regrets and is looking to the future. How this played out is textbook corporate/legal procedure for when an employee leaves a company in a dispute. As much as fans might want, we were never going to get explanations or apologies from CUBE.

What I feel is like: When CLC debuted the trend that was good for sales was the cute bubbly concept. So they thought that making a cute group was perfectly enough. The problem is that they just put CLC out there and expected them to gain money and popularity just like that. As if just by existing people will throw their money at them. Second the cute concept was already oversaturated by ggs. Everyone was making cute concepts. After that, trends move to girl crush concepts and once again Cube jumped into that train late. Like that's part of the companies job. Not just creating music but knowing what will sale better in the market, they were so disconnected from the public and what sale well at the time. Once they realized what the market wanted they gave this good saling concepts to newer groups under the label and pushed clc on other directions trying to avoid competence within the company. Like that's dumb. Gosh I really hate them for being so bad at their jobs, like, you realize people were paid for these things right (?) Like how on earth do you get paid for doing your job wrong????

This video is very good, especially the way you structured it and chose the important parts. I really agree with the other comment about how it's a chicken-egg problem, and I believe at some points Cube completely messed up (like with the comeback after Crystyle) and then they didn't even try anymore because 'their not bringing in money, it's to late to fix that'. They could also suffer from the same as Got7, that their company completely focuses on the new group since the old one will disband sooner and therefore any investment in them isn't as 'long term' as in the other (although CLC still had plenty of time to be successful). I don't know whether the group will now continue or all split ways (with Cube probably), I just hope everyone can express themselves and do what they want after all these years.

In reality, it's the agency's job to provide everything for a group they debuted but in Cube, there is this unasked culture of self-producing, self-writing which I don't understand. Not every group can be self-composed and Cube should know it. It seems Soyeon, as a leader of her group, knew what awaits them if they were to rely on Cube for songs. In that sense, we can say CLC was a burning example in front of the newly debuted (G)I-DLE to create their own identity through creating their own music. It paid off with Latata and Hann.

Clc is literally my ult group and i cannot stand this dumb behaviour of companies like seriously. CLC is such a well rounded group and bc of this mistreatment they will not last longer then the 7 year ban and another amazing group will just be destroyed and forgotten. I am so so annoyed at this fr we fans could manage them better or get ppl who would do that

14:27 hi! I'm a cheshire, there's no more merch, just to clarify! 22:13 even in the debut, yeeun had a LOT of hate and cube never did something, yeeun was 16 at the time she received hate she was a minor at that time and people were calling her b1tch 29:54 they didn't even do one for 2020 and cube did NOTHING. cheshires (clc's fans) understand why they didn't published the 2021 one and is maybe because Elkie is in the video, elkie's lawyer publish the lawsuit on December 25th and the 2021's videos were uploaded on December 31st so cheshires understand that cube didn't published the video but not even one for 2020? the good thing is that they published a letter for 2021 so at least something!

CLC had no _group color?!_ What was it with management companies in the 201X's?! SM not giving promotions or a friggin' fandom name? f(x) had their color and light stick, at least. Both cases, too little too late...these gestures by the company came shortly before both groups were abandoned altogether!

I'm not a fan of CLC, I support them cause they're friends with Dreamcatcher (my ult group), I always include their MV's in my streaming playlists and vote for them when I can, but I don't really pay attention to them so I wasn't aware of their situation until the thing with Elkie blew up on Twitter... It's heartbreaking to see so much talent and potencial being wasted. Since I don't keep up with them I might not understand the full story, but from what I've seen in this video and what I heard from a Cheshire friend, it seems like the issues are a chicken and egg sorta thing: they weren't successful at first, so Cube gave up on them, but then they couldn't become successful cause Cube gave up and wasn't managing them properly. It really intrigues that sometimes the company seems to miss opportunities on purpose. For example: CLC seems to have a pretty decent international fanbase, but Cube doesn't try to capitalize on that, which KARD's and DC's companies did, with a considerable amount of success. And even Yeeun's thing, I watched Good Girl religiously every week, and she was one of the fans favorites, yet, Cube ignored the hype she got from the show. I get so tired thinking about all of this, can't imagine how Cheshires must feel... Anyway, I hope that those girls can get the hell out of that company and find happiness doing music somewhere else or whatever they decide to do after.

The answer is simple: Cube doesn't care. That's it. Cube does the bare minimum because they contractually have to. They're just waiting for contracts to end to disband them. Also, Where Are You is one of CLC's best songs. It's underrated and came out at the wrong time. Shouldn't have been a title.

Also to my knowledge last year sorn said cube was letting them have a full album but all we got was another single- helicopter

Definitely mismanaged. Hobgoblin is the song that introduce clc to the international fans and I remember how black dress was their first song that charted on melon top 100 (old system). They had potential but cube doesn't want to fully invest in clc. It‘s complicated and there are probably more things going on behind the scenes that we’ll never know. I think cube occasionally is able to put together great teams/artists etc., but they seem to have no clear distinctive musical/conceptual direction. Even in the past they tried to push 4minute towards a cute concept until that failed. They’re lucky to have talented artists, but even then they apparently can’t keep them... Anyways, great video. :)

THANK YOU for the video! I don’t blame Gidle or Pentagon because it’s CUBE’s responsibility. If you think about majority of Cube’s groups do well. CLC is the only group, and for a hot minute Pentagon was also not doing well until Shine. When CLC is compare to Gidle I think it’s because they are a girl group tbh. CLC’s little sister. Also something that people don’t mention. When LATATA debut, there was a hole for girl crush because BLACKPINK haven’t had a comeback. (Let’s be honest, BP is consider to be the face of GC in Kpop’s atmosphere bc YG) I remember a lot of Blinks in the LATATA video saying how this scratch their itch. CUBE clearly didn’t want to invest on CLC

In my understanding the Hotgobling comeback was successful in the international market while in Korea was their worst comeback, they didn't chart, it was a total lost and in that time the foreigner market was not a focus sooo they comeback with another cute concept to please the Korea market, it was a really bad decision to chance so drastically the concept in the first place and the turning back was awful too cause' the western market ignore them again with the next comeback, it was a total mess the netizens blame in Hyuna the change of concept, "they're doing an 4minute 2.0" and thing like that too redo the things was Black dress and it was perfect classic with power it fits soo well with the members, a shame what happened with CLC I'm not a fan but their song are really good my favorite is Meow Meow is sooo cute that song is my favorite Bside as well, they deserve better all the luck to the members
