I find it ironic that they expect an infant to practice self control to not leave a blanket. But they don't expect MEN to have enough self control to be around women who wear PANTS. 🙄

Indeed, a baby or any child does not need to be hit with a stick or hand! What’s wrong with putting the child in an infant seat, playpen or high chair while Mom is busy? Do they put baby on the floor and leave the room-that sounds completely unsafe!

Well said! Jill and Derrick have one drink with a meal, on a kid-free date night, and JB hits the ceiling... Yet Josh repeatedly cheats on Anna, has committed child ab-se and accessed CP so vile that he was imprisoned for it, and he's still the golden child? Utter insanity! JB can not claim to be any kind of grandparent if he has no concerns over the safety of Josh and Anna's kids, but is "concerned" about the safety of Jill and Derrick's kids, when they are practising very normal, safe behaviour (a single drink on a night out, with a meal, when the kids are with a sitter would not compromise their kid's safety and would be pretty much out of their system before they even got home).

Blanket training is one of the most twisted, abusive practices I have ever heard of. I majored in Early Childhood Education in college. The first year of bonding is essential to a child’s future psychological health. When I had my daughter, I jumped at every little noise she made, I wanted her from day 1 to have the security that I was 100% there for her. To hit an infant for any reason is absolutely unacceptable. It’s the complete opposite of what you should be doing as a parent. Makes me physically ill to think about it. 😢

One of the things they tell you is you can not spoil a baby before the age of 6 months. Though I do believe that each is different and not just a blob as that statement sort of sounds like. Some babies like closeness, some don’t and so on.

The age they are hitting these children on blankets. They should all be in prison. I saw a video where a participant in one of the seminars stood up and was all upset that she thought she was the worst mother because she had to keep hitting her child all day long, and they would not stop getting off the blanket. So what was she doing wrong that her child would not stop? Honey, it's called your child is in pain and they are crying. It is just so unbelievable

I’m so very proud of Jill. It’s not easy to go against anyone with forceful personalities, let alone go against ones family of origin that is an abusive cult. She broke free from the generational chains that bound her. She redefined what a healthy family is for herself & her own family. That is independence & strength at its peak. Every new interview that she speaks out in leaves me prouder and prouder of her. ❤

I went to an IBLP Seminar in Philadelphia back in ca. 1972. It was fun to be in the arena with all those people, but I was slowly disappointed with Bill Gothard. This seminar was so hyped up and would teach us Christians how to live successful lives. It was expensive. I remember the syllabus was something like $17.00 which was a fortune back then. I was getting minimum wage. It didn’t fit my life at all. My mother made sure I got an education beyond high school so I would have a career. She did not want me to feel dependent on a man for survival. So I didn’t fit the Stepford Wife mold at all. Thankfully, his preaching turned into blah blah blah and I tuned it out. The only thing I remember is that umbrella of protection - which I didn’t fit under either! I am still a Christian, but am so glad I didn’t fall into their nets!

I would think this church rehab where her dad wanted Derrick to go would not accept any funding. I grew up in this type of church. I even attended college at one of these places that supported all this. Over the years I have realized some of the issues in this teaching and realized it was cult teaching. But these places never accepted any insurance payments even for seeing the Dr at the on campus clinic or being in the infirmary if we were sick. The Drs were from within the church affiliated with the school so all that was included in your room and board and nothing extra was charged. Drs volunteered services to the college. They did not even accept any Government money for college students. We had to fight if our parents could not pay to find ways to get our bills paid to stay in school and stay on campus. I was one of those who had to fight to find help every month. We as women were not allowed to work off campus so we had zero way to make money to stay. My church paid the majority of my tuition and the school had jobs for some of us on campus or at the church that paid our room and board. By the way, I have realized over the 41 years since I left the school this teaching was all messed up and learned that living for God is different from what I was taught!! I still believe in God and have different views of what that entails.

It's wonderful to see how Jill has grown emotionally. She has learned to speak up for herself and her convictions. I'm so glad that she married Derrick. She has really blossomed since. He seems to have encouraged and nurtured her into finding her own voice and to stop and reexamine the lifestyle she was raised in. She has learned to trust her own discernment. You can see it in her confidence and whole demeanor. She actually glows with it. He doesn't talk over her or speak for her or even prompt her. I'm happy for both of them.

If memory serves right, I believe blanket training is worst than that. Michelle would talk about the toddlers/little ones choose a toy and sit on the blanket. Then when they reached for the toy just off the blanket, Michele would wack them and gently scold them for disobeying and attempting to leave the blanket. It’s about breaking the will of a child. It’s very confusing for a little one. Sad.

If Jill and some of the other older girls were raising their young siblings, then it's logical to assume Michelle had THEM using blanket training. I bet that's what Jill isn't saying, and I don't blame her. It wasn't her fault. As for Derick needing "rehab", if JimBob could have engineered such a thing it would have separated Derick from Jill and maybe left her vulnerable to more pressure from JB. Jill herself says that Derick is a lot of the reason she began to rethink her parent's teachings, so perhaps JB thought it was worth a try to come between them and reclaim her for the cult...and the show....and the lifetime obligations.

@@Ruthiroo23 Which makes the blanket trainees about a year old when the older sisters took over. But blanket training doesn't necessarily stop at a year. Depending on the child, it can go to age 3 or even more, according to the info on it. I just think if Michelle wasn't quite satisfied with a baby's behavior by the time it was weaned, she expected the "buddy" to carry on with the blanket training. Just conjecture, though.

JimBob has no capacity whatsoever to send Derick or anyone to rehab. He's an adult and rehab centres, even religious ones, don't risk getting their licences revoked for trying to force an adult who has no booze problems get there because he does what many functional adults do in their meal. It was some kind of, say, Batman gambit attempt to keep on testing how much influence he still got "recommending" it but inside his circle. Once he failed he actually wanted it to never get out there at all costs. Even before Josh, ILBP was on thin ice and many started to hide the most wacko things for fear of losing even more people on the fence

It's sad to know that there are Christian zealots still practicing such arcane "Ideals". I'm very proud of Jill for speaking out and I salute her courage and transparency. I have been around true alcoholics for many years and believe me, Derick does NOT fit the bill just because he had 2 beers! These parents should stay out of the lives of their children unless they are specifically asked for advice or assistance! Their audacity is truly disrespectful and horribly intrusive. After the age of 18, parents should take a large step back and cut the apron strings to their children because their job is done. Being there for their children in times of tragedy means that they are supportive and loving but it does not give them the right to run rough shod over them. Being a parent is difficult. It is not easy to release the strings of attachment to their children. It requires wisdom, courage, and strength to accept that you are no longer the overseer of your children because they have to test their own strengths. The parent is without authority when the children reach maturity; and are no longer responsible for their mental, emotional and spiritual health and values. Only when asked should parents advise and council their children.

Jill is getting better and better with each interview, but she definitely still holds back. I get it though. She has been taught her entire life that the way she grew up was the only way and all outside influences were sinful. She has seen the light, if you will, not everyone who doesn't think like you is bad or sinful. In fact, in terms of IBLP it's more like the people that do think like you are more sinful and horrible. I'm just throwing it out there but I think we could see another book that will reveal a whole bunch more.

I have a really awful SIL whose son has just been arrested for CSA (she’s awful for other reasons, not that). She insists-before anyone said a word-that all sins are equal in the eyes of God, making the case for forgiveness and no further punishment for her son, etc, etc. I wonder if they consider drinking a beer equivalent to Josh’s transgressions. It certainly seems like my SIL believes this to her core.

I wouldn't be surprised. I remember (not IBLP but a very conservative, evangelical IBLP adjacent) someone teaching that people see sins like the skyline of a city, with all the buildings different heights (different degrees of sin) but God sees them as if looking down from above (can't tell the heights/degrees) I think that is pretty oversimplified theology and makes it seem (like you pointed out) that relatively harmless "sins" (if you can even call drinking a beer a sin) are no less awful than horrible and disgusting sins. I have a really hard time believing that God would be anywhere near as upset about someone drinking a beer as God would be about someone harming a child.

I knew Jill did not blanket train, she denounced it when Israel was a baby. I think I had seen Jessa blanket training her first and getting called out for it and she stopped. I don't think Joy has blanket trained, her kids are pretty active. Can't see Jinger blanket training either. Maybe some of the boys wives have blanket trained since they are more ingrained in the fold.

The assumption that Jessa blanket trained was based on one photo of a blanket on the floor near a rocking chair in Ben and Jessa’s home. I like KJ but that was a leap. I don’t think Jessa ever lured her children off the blanket and punished them. Plus, Ben was never in the IBLP so not part of this squirreliness.

They seem more and more relaxed and open each time we hear them being interviewed and I wouldn't be surprised if there's more info to come. Even Derick was surprised that Jill's dad had asked her to watch Dericks Vlog b4 they'd started dating and Derick wasn't even aware! So I believe as they go along we'll hear more and more. Jinger did that a bit but I feel J & D will keep getting more and more memories coming up. I site would like to know tho who WASNT on board with them calling out JB and Michelle? And a looming question in my mind....WHO was the babysitter and why is she not going after Josh with charges???

It's interesting that the most harm is often done in the name of religion.
