For those saying permits are not required in Arkansas - this is categorically false. They live in NW Arkansas in one the most populated counties in the state. They live next to the landfill and are not rural. Permits are required for building and living. Anna was moved out of the warehouse by DCFS because the warehouse was not permitted for occupancy for her or the kids - thanks!

We built a house here in Northern New York back in 1993 and it was the same for us as you described. We could not move in until we had running water, electricity, proper septic system (it was in the country so well water and septic), and were given a certificate of occupancy by the county and town. This was after inspections by the electric company and water company etc. oh and also the heat source had to be inspected. Construction went over by about a month. I would say in almost all cases they never finish construction on time. You would’ve thought the show would have taken that into consideration 🤷‍♀️

Bill Gothard's IBLP/ATI cult is opposed to getting a college education, especially for women. They want obedient, brainwashed followers who will not use critical thinking skills. lest their victims see what a massive scam their cult is. I know from firsthand experience. The IBLP-believing "Christian Growth Ministries" cult that I stumbled into as a young woman yanked me out of college. I finally got my college degree when I was in my 60's. I hope some day Jill will also be able to get a college degree.

It was pretty obvious what was going on. I've known non religious people with a dozen or more kids and that's what they do too. One adult can't be totally supervising a dozen or more kids alone. They have the kids all helping the much younger kids. We live in a densely Amish populated area and they have as many kids as they can give birth to. One family we know currently has 18 kids and they do the same thing. Obviously one adult can't be taking care of 18 kids on her own, plus cleaning house, doing all the laundry, cooking, gardening etc. They have even really young kids helping doing whatever they're capable of doing, even when that's just crawling around the floor with a damp rag. To them it's totally normal and reasonable, even though it seems outrageous to the rest of us.

Hearing her try to defend her mother by saying she (Mom) "helped" is just sad. Like no, at six years old you should've been the one "helping" by handing their real Mom a diaper or watching the baby in the playpen for two minutes while their mom went to the bathroom. Not raising your younger sibling at six years old.

Perhaps she knows her Mom is JB's first victim, even if she doesn't say it publically? Even reading the letter from JB, to me is his ongoing way to control Michelle. She clearly has no autonomy, and in her secret moments may mourn that. I think Jill is balancing honesty and transparency with respect ... therapy has taught her how to do that. If she came out in full-blown anger, she would come across as bitter and vengeful, and probably not seen as credible.

I agree. What do they all think will happen when he passes away someday and no one knows how to truly live as adults because they’ve always depended on and obeyed Daddy? Does he think he’s immortal? Regardless of their religious beliefs on obeying/honoring their parents, part of growing up is making your own decisions and sometimes going against your parents’ opinions. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. These “kids” won’t know how to make those decisions on their own.

Almost every kid was sick in the house . She was like a charge nurse in a hospitail ward. Another time Jimbob and Michaell left a baby that had special needs , they went on a vacation.( the last child Michaell gave birth to ) left the older girls in charge of everything. I only had one sibling, so I didn’t have to help with them, but my mom loved and fostered dogs. So from age 12-college, I trained, raised, walked, cleaned, medicated, and fed dinner to up to three large dogs at once, sometimes puppies. My mom only saw them on weekends and gave them breakfasts. I was twice as old as Jill and not dealing with, you know, a human, and even still it could be hard. The barking, the messes, and protecting them from my dad when he had an anger problem. I can’t imagine the stress for Jill. Also, JB is in real estate and has labor and skills. You’re telling me he couldn’t at least temporarily rig large water tanks for the house? I have sailed, and though we technically “didn’t” have water, there is an onboard tank system of two 35 gallon tanks. So you have to use buckets and ration a bit, but at least you can flush and wash!

@@beedeegee9374i live in a densely Amish populated area and they have no indoor plumbing at all. They have outhouses, not even anything with chemicals and many of them have just as many kids. They live their entire lives that way. No running water at all. They only have wells with manual water pumps and in the dead of winter go outside and pump a bucket or buckets of water they then have to heat on wood burning stoves to wash dishes, clothing, and to bathe in. They bathe from youngest to oldest using the same water. In some of the larger families they have more water heating so they can split it in two batches, especially in the summer when they're more dirty with all the outdoor work. I don't know how they do it. But I guess if that's all you've ever known it seems normal.

Very interesting to have this confirmed. Thank you for a great video. I have read Jill's book & applauded it. It took immense bravery, strength & determination to speak out in such an unprecedented way. However, when writing, anything, you create a one-sided conversation where you have total control but when face-to-face or under public scrutiny that dynamic changes into a dual where you can be made vulnerable by manipulation & devious semantics. Therefore, not only do I not blame Jill for refusing to talk about Josh at all I believe it's the right approach as it takes away the focus she wants to present. In fairness, what possible explanation can she offer for his behaviour & criminal activity anyway? She has already publicly condemned his sick & nefarious activities & shown her utter disgust at them so, IMO. further discussion is, in fact, pointless. There is also value in attempting to *reason* with Jim Slob - how can she reason with such a horribly unreasonable & untruthful man? If there's one thing I've learned in life (at my ripe old age) it's that not only are you likely to be unsuccessful in taking to task such a master manipulator as JB but even more likely receive nothing but grief for doing so. Jill is not the one who broke the law, her behaviour has been & remains, exemplary. Josh is *not* her problem & it's likely she just wants to move on with her life as much as possible. I have to say that what I find truly remarkable is her courage & the conviction it must have taken to make such a huge leap forward into the unknown - a world that she has been taught only to fear. Hurray for Jill!!! And Derrick!!

I just don’t understand what JB thinks is going to happen to these people. His son can’t live in the tree house forever. At some point JB will get old and die. Then what will happen to these people? I grew up in a very controlling family, not nearly this controlling though. I remember not really being able to make decisions when I first moved out, and I was 24 years old. These people will probably be closer to middle age. This family has always been very sickening, but watching how these people’s lives have been wasted by JB is monstrous.

My mom built their home near the top of a mountain in AR. They moved from the shed into it when they got a bedroom and kitchen done. No electricity. Water came from a spring uphill from there brought down with a hose. They had an outhouse or used a chamber pot. Used the heating stove or the barbecue to cook food on or heat water. When the house, was finished, it had 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms plus a loft. A full kitchen with large dinning room, living room and a large patio. The only thing they had someone else do and was the electricity. That was the only inspection ever done on place. They built it in the 80's. 1980's that is.

I cannot imagine not seeing my dad for a year. Yes we built our house too, we live in Arkansas. We do not live in the city, so that may be why but no one came to inspect before we moved in. We didn’t move in before everyone was in working order though. Our insurance agent came and inspected it, that was it. Also, we’ve helped our kids out quite a bit financially. They do have their own homes. I can’t imagine living like the duggars. Talk about Bassackwards.

Adult children don’t move out until they are married. Doesn’t matter the age, you don’t leave until you’re married. Imagine having to ask your father before having children. You get a job offer far away, but you can’t take it. Umbrella of authority means father is in charge, forever.

I have built a home and until you get a certificate of occupation you can not move into the house. And we were delayed a week because they didnt like the door from the house leading into the garage because it didnt swing the proper way. So either Jimbob was paying under the table or AK is very laxed in inspections. I do not know anyone who was allowed to move into a home they built without running water or a toilet that flushed, thats a health violation. So someone was paying someone.

Six seems awfully young to care for an infant. When my daughter was a toddler I had a young girl who was 9 or 10 who would come to my house to play with my daughter to keep her entertained while I got things done, but I was always present and the girl was paid. But it was only for 2 to 3 hours at a time, once a week. She definitely was not ready to be unsupervised or care for a child all day.

Had to be inspected with everything in it of course but the fire department issued the occupancy permit because they determined how many people we could have in the restaurant. Jim Bob lucked out and TLC paid for the house and furniture and food if I remember correctly

I was one of 8 kids. We always loved when a new baby came and really enjoyed helping and playing with our younger siblings. My mom never expected us to help out in a large capacity. We did help out in some ways like doing some chores around the house and assisting younger siblings. But it was never OUR responsibilities to ensure our younger siblings were getting the care and attention they needed. That was my parents’ job. If I ever had that many kids I would do it the same way. Everyone would lend a helping hand to make things work but it would never be my childrens’ responsibility to ensure the others were getting their needs met, that would by my job and my husband’s. Being a parent is not easy but there are ways to get help without burdening your other children.

My husband and I have built 2 homes. The first in 2003 and the second one in 2019. Neither one of the homes could be occupied until the homes passed the building inspections by the city and we got the certificate of occupancy. On the second home, most of the interior doors were still on back order when the house was otherwise complete and ready to be inspected. We were able to move in having only 2 of the 4 bedroom doors and 2 bathroom doors. We were still waiting for the doors to the rest of the house. The house felt incomplete for those first 3 weeks that it took to have them delivered.

My husband was a carpenter, and the house we bought needed s lot of work. He added 2 bedrooms, and a laundry room on the main floor. When he finished the inside, we still had to do the siding. We had to have the addition inspected by the plumbing, and electrical inspectors. When they came to inspect, they told us that we could not move into the addition until we finished the vinyl siding.

My late husband and I built our house in 1992 here in CT. We had to have a certificate of occupancy from the local housing inspector before we were allowed to move in. It took longer than expected, because our well water was not passing the tests for how many gallons per minute ( it had to be hydrofracted) and there was bacteria in the new well. So it had to be treated with Chlorine and pass the 2 tests before we could get our CO.

In reference to moving into a house without water, that falls under state, county and local law issues. I don’t know what the laws are in Arkansas but in Texas, you can easily move into a house without running water or other utilities. We moved into our house before our well was operational. We just ran a water hose from our neighbor’s house so we could flush toilets and take showers we used bottled water for drinking and cooking. Went to the laundromat to do our laundry. But even if we hadn’t had good neighbors who offered to do that, we had other ways to store water to use for showers and flushing toilets

Yeah, that is really really weird about the moving into the house because there was no way they got a certificate of occupancy without all those inspections. I mean, obviously, Arkansas could have different laws, but I’m in Tennessee and I wouldn’t think it would be that different than here. My dad owned the construction company that did my house, and even with some of my special privilege due to that, I couldn’t even move boxes into the garage before the certificate of occupancy came down. The only thought I have is that if they owned that land and that land was not part of the purchase of the home, maybe they were able to fudge the rules that way.

I did a modified buddy system with my three children. My oldest looked out for the middle, my middle looked out for my oldest and the baby was in charge of the two older. The kids would play outside and look after each other. I would check on them every 10 minutes. But with my kids looking out for each other, I didn’t worry as much about them outdoors. I also set up cones as a visual reminder of where thier boundary line was for playing. Worked out well for me. When we did trips to the zoo etc. We would do a buddy system ( usually the two oldest looked after each other, while I kept the baby close to me). It worked out well as it gave my kids a sense of responsibility for each other and made my job taking 3 kids on outings much easier. Never would I have expected my older children to raise my younger children. Unfortunately, my middle child did take on a “mother” role with her older brother and younger sister when I was very ill with cancer. I did not want or encourage that behavior .

About the house building thing: we’re building a house in Oklahoma that isn’t covered by any governing body that issues permits. That means there are no permits along the way (you deal with this by hiring inspectors), and you could move in at any time (as long as you’re not in the way of the workers, of course). But it’s all up to you to be safe. Consequently, some of the houses built up there have MAJOR ISSUES. I could imagine that being the case where the big house is
