I have only used top whorl spindles up to now, and what I've found is that I really enjoy woolen spinning. I would love to try a support spindle, but it always looks like magic when I see other spinners do it (I still need two hands to draft!). Thank you so much for this video! I've been curious about support spindle spinning for a while. Your tutorial makes me feel like I could finally be brave and try it out. You were the 'coach' that took my drop spindle spinning to the next level. My neurodivergent brain wants to do a study of a fleece spun different ways on all different spinning tools, wheels, drop spindles of various shapes, supported spindles, singles, 2-ply and 3-ply, maybe even a 4-ply(something I've never done yet!)!

I’ve been support spindle spinning for around a year now, but was firmly in the park and draft zone with no idea how to become more fluid. I still haven't tried spinning or gotten my first spindle yet. I'm trying to learn as much as I can first and your videos have been super helpful and informative! I think one like this would be really beginner friendly though. I also tend to be a bit clumsy and this seems like it would be pretty straightforward 😅 I'd love to be able to make my own yarn and then get to crochet with it or use it on a loom.

I love that you made this video for beginners! Whenever I watch someone support spindling, they seem to move smoothly and with ease. I’ve tried it once and struggled, so I’ll have to use the tips and try again. I have a small batt that a friend processed and I think would spin well on a support spindle.

Hi! Park and draft with a drop spindle is how I learned to spin and even though I can spin well with a wheel now, I still live spindle spinning. I am now a hockey mom and would love to practice efficient support spinning while I watch my daughter's games and attend practice. I would probably spin a yarn that I could turn into some gorgeous and cozy wrist warmers.

I've used drop spindles and a double treadle spinning wheel before, but a supported spindle looks interesting! I'd probably spin enough to make a hat, possibly using a nailbinding technique and go from there.

I would spin a variety of fibers to find out which fiber was fun to spin. It would probably be combed top, but I'd try rolags, too. Cotton would probably be the first fiber I'd try.

I love this tutorial and the timing was great! I just made a couple of spindles last week, inspired by your diy spindle videos. I made some drop spindles but also a couple of supported spindles and matching bowls. For the whorls I used polymer clay and I used some bamboo double pointed needles for the spindle sticks. Even though I’m really happy with my home made supported spindles, I would still love to win a professionally made one of course! 😊 I would probably make some rolags with my new blending board to get better at long draw supported spinning.

I'd make a cowl I think - I'm still a relatively new spinner and never tried support spinning so smaller projects feel more approachable (one day I will spin enough for a cardigan!). Love your videos - I've learnt so much!

Ooooooh I would love Nutty! I would use a supported spindle to spin silk embroidery thread. I’m Métis (one of the 3 Indigenous nations recognized in the Canadian constitution) and practice traditional Métis beading and some embroidery. I like to sign my pieces with hand dyed and hand spun embroidery thread. A supported spindle seems like the perfect way for me to get enough twist to make the thread robust enough to be pulled in and out of fabric. It also makes a perfect amount of thread for a project! ❤❤❤❤

What amazing timing for this video! I was just looking through your backlog for this very thing. I have some amazing local-to-me floof from Palouse Yarn Company that is a blend of Cormo and Targhee that I really want to spin up on a supported spindle. I would try spinning sock yarn. I've read the it must be very thin with extra twist to make the yarn strong. I think I'd be able to do that better on a supported spindle than a drop spindle. Would love to try anyway 😉😉

It would be fun to spin lace yarn for a lacey shawl inspired by Orenburg shawls, since the yarn for those is traditionally spun on supported spindles in Russia, I think. Definately not as fine as those, though! 😂
