in my opinion Bret and Owen's feud in 1994 really saved WWE and brought business back again to a degree and helped stop the bleeding from the 1992 steroid scandal and ring boys molestations scandal that very nearly killed the company. Their feud was relatable for so many people and made wrestling fun again.

They’re all hard to watch without tearing up. My wife isn’t into wrestling at all, but she loves dark side of the ring because you get to see the human side of wrestlers. We have a little boy and imagining him having to grow up without me breaks my heart. I’m very happy to see Owen’s family was strong enough to keep it together and thrive. @ShadowAngel Austin went on to become one of the biggest stars ever & had a great career despite that injury, which was an accident. Owen was never at that level of success, and he died at a very young age in a horrible accident. Why would Austin need to still bitch about him when it was Owen who ended up having it much worse? Even if his career was shortened most wrestlers would kill to have a legacy like Austin's. It allowed him to move on after wrestling and pursue an acting career among other projects. He is and should be grateful for that.

@ShadowAngel Some people do not get the "don't speak bad of the dead" at all. Others, it may take a while, but it usually surfaces. 20+ years later and there still hasn't been anything bad, outside of the Owen/Austin issue (and I think Steve would have a right to complain given that it was an unnecessary move that nearly paralyzed him). I haven't heard a peep. And with so many people doing all these shoot interviews over the past decade, you'd figure if there was something negative to say, it would've been said by now.

@DeathBringer769
@DeathBringer769 4 жыл бұрын
@J Crash That still doesn't change Michaels and HHH being pricks, lol. Of course you can always find worse out there, and nowhere in that comment did they say or even imply that they were the only ones out there. And notice they said "pricks" and not "evil pieces of shit." There's varying levels of crappiness here as well. The original comment seemed to be going after being who acted pricky, not full blown evil people like what Benoit did (and no, the head trauma isn't an excuse because there's plenty of other athletes like boxers or football players that suffered far worse head trauma for even longer but never murdered their own family, so it was something evil that already existed inside Benoit that simply got unleashed as his judgment got worse and worse) or the murderer of Brody.

Shit on HBK because of politics? I dont get it. I'll be the first to admit that HBK is not the same person he was. When I criticized him it was because of his behavior in the 90s (and early 2000s I suppose). Hes totally redeemed himself as far as I can see. And that's hard for me to admit as a super duper huge HITMAN fan. HHH has also turned a corner. To be fair, the plan was probably always for Austin to win the title from Shawn at WM14 so keeping Owen and Shawn apart until after then would have been logical. Shawn's back injury meant that the feud wouldn't have been practical but Owen's booking during and after WM14 really doesn't inspire confidence in the idea that Owen would have gone over if Shawn's career had continued; he lost to HHH at 2 consecutive PPVs before turning heel and joining The Nation to beat The New Age Outlaws and HHH at IYH: Over the Edge before being left off King of the Ring altogether (personally I'd have said the best way to handle it would have been for Owen to win at WM so he at least had a moral victory over DX before holding the European title for a few months).

Owen and Shawn had a great match on Raw after Owen came back and jumped Shawn at the DX event. The Black Hart was Owen's best character. I never understood why they ditched that character. There was never any chance for a long program with Owen and Shawn. Shawn wrestled Taker at the Royal Rumble and missed No Way Out because of his back injury, wrestled Austin at WM 14 (probably his only match in his last 45 days as champion), and then left to rehab his injured back. WM 10 was Owen's finest moment. It bested the ladder match between Shawn and Razor that night. A close second is the greatest cage match I've ever seen between Owen and Bret at Summerslam.

But the Rougeaus came here in Chicoutimi some time after, with Kurggan vs Pier-Carl Ouellet as a main event, and the Fabulous Rougeau were wrestling the semi-main event against a team of local guys. It was really cool. PS: Jim, don't try to speak french. I didn't understand a word of what you said :p

Shawm: Nope, we weren't gonna have a program together. Yeah actually you were but refused to lose to Owen. Vince wanted to rub it in Bret's face and make Owen the new Canadian hero (which Brets used to being). Sure Owen was always treated like a clown by Vince with the blueblazer thing but towards the end with the would Black Hart angle, Vince was finally taking Owen serious to imo rub Bret favorite position of top Canadian in his face. He was gonna have Owen beat Shawn and Shawn was not having it. He was seconds from losing his smile for the 3rd time. "BOOhoo why do I have to lose? Not fair. Youre bullying me. Not fair, only i can bully".. lol but seriously, Owen isnt the type to fight or make a big deal about back stage politics and was more like "idk Vince, tell me what you want me to do and I'll do it aslong as it wont offend Martha or my kids. He didn't care about losing or being the next top guy. Owen wanted to do wrestling for about 2 more years to save up enough pay and retire a slower normal life as a once in a while substitute teacher and live the rest of his days with his family.

@J Crash I agree that Owen going over Shawn is silly but still I kinda wanted to see were Vince was going with that.. you know the whole "SERIOUS" Owen. Even tho hey never really gave a damn it would've been nice to see that drama, but again Owen was literally the type to say "I'll do whatever you want boss, as long as you don't make me have a love interest with some female". It was Vince's idea that Owen ends up having an affair with his partner's Jeff Jarrett's girl Deborah McMichaels, which Jarrett was like sure why not, Deb also was down but not Owen. They wanted him to have an edge to him. A whole "I don't care about my partners relationship, idc about following the rules, screw Bret I was the best anyways" bad boy attitude which was literally well needed from him, and he agreed to all of it but the Deborah thing. Said I'll do whatever you want, but don't make me look like I'm fooling on my wife. He really did love Martha.

@michael murillo To be fair, Shawn was a heel so coming up with obnoxious nick-names for rivals is a reasonable thing to do. The lack of comeuppance was more of a problem here (I was commenting to someone else that Shawn's back injury meant the logical "put Owen over after dropping the world title to Austin" storyline couldn't happen but having Owen put HHH over instead of beating him casts doubt on whether he would have been allowed to beat Shawn clean if Shawn hadn't temporarily retired).
