I relished every second of this part of the podcast when I listened. Dave's efforts to defend people he knows deep down are trash has seriously damaged his credibility. What he does is essentially tabloid journalism. That's not perfect, but it's really the only way that you can report on what is still essentially a pretty closed industry. If he applied a more rigorous standard of journalism, he probably wouldn't be able to report much of anything and the only source of info we'd have would be the official lines from the promotions themselves. (which are often even less accurate for obvious reasons.

the Bucks starting the Meltzer driver and giving him all that press made him into a star to this generation of fans. Meltzer then became addicted to all the attention, now he's stuck pandering to both those wrestlers and those fans and has obliterated his credibility in the process. I would agree that his type of wrestling would not be for the average, passing fan, but I believe the overall picture of that vision could get over. I understand kayfabe is gone, but could they just get back to the basics of selling moves. I mean you get elbow dropped from the top rope. The guy goes to do it again and they pop up like a rabbit, sprint across the ring, to sling him from the top rope like you took no damage. Kayfabe or not can we not play things out and just sell.
