It's amazing that Sonny lived for another four-decades-plus after suffering those lung and heart injuries in the stabbing incident in 1982 - and after being a pro boxer and pro wrestler, which are not exactly professions that are known for prolonging people's lives. Some people are just made from tougher materials than most of us. It's unfortunate in a way, that he had to retire right at the beginning of the wrestling TV boom in the 1980s, but it probably added more than a couple of years to his life later on.

If I'm not mistaken, Sonny's last WWWF match was at the Springfield Civic Center in MA against Freddie Blassie in April 1973. Sonny suffered a broken wrist in the match and while he was recuperating his contract ran out. Sonny came into WWWF in late 1971 and left in spring of '73, and when he healed up he got the gig for the Crocketts.

Sonny King I'll always remember for having a great Gimmick especially for The Seventies. Wisely it was never mentioned out loud on Camera. Sonny King would appear on TV as a Villain's Hype guy in Dothan or Memphis or Tampa or Atlanta and deliver a Promo with a Lollipop planted firmly in his mouth. The whole Routine was a fine nod to TV Superstar Telly Savalas who Played "Kojak."😂🎤🍭🤼♂️B.W.
