And losers will always cite working harder (when the game is working smarter) and blame others for their failure, using sissy language like "toxic work environments". A smart worker can navigate difficulty, co-opt adversaries, and win. I love Corny as a performer and storyteller...but the list of people he could not work with and places he flamed out of is much longer than the reverse. If you go through life thinking everybody else is crazy, it's time for a hard look in the mirror.

I remembered when Jim gave his side about Greg The Office Boy and people said he was bitter. That no one could be that terrible. 7 years later, after everything Joey Mercury has been saying, Jim should be vindicated. Btw, I saw a recent ROH episode and i’ve seen public access wrestling TV this year that had better production and booking. Its mind blowing to think Impact, which was essentially dead 4-5 years ago, is now thriving and ROH, which was the most loved promotion of the 2000’s, has declined and could go out of business if Sinclair decides to pull the plug.
@roggie839
@roggie839 4 жыл бұрын
Mercury's has some legit concerns though for a company that is backed by billions of dollars. They could afford to have a wwe style concussion program for their own wrestlers. They could also afford to pay the talent more than what they make at minimum wage job. That is actually a lot harder work than working at McDonald's as these men and women are risking their lives and bodies for shitty wages.

@@emperorpalpatine1228 Ya for company that is par with wwe for earnings. Only paying your talent 20k is a huge rip off. Take into account that the majority of the nxt rosters makes 50-80k a year. No reason Sinclair broadcast couldn't shell out at least 40k to pay the talent they have which is why not one of the talent wants to stay with the company.

They need to work with AEW and Impact to make their wrestlers known to people; since they did jack shit to build up their own midcarders to main eventers in the last couple of years. Hell, I used to be a fan of ROH during the Austin Aries, Tyler Black, Kevin Steen, El Generico, Young Bucks, Adam Cole (and so on) days; and now in 2021, the only guy I know in ROH is Jay Lethal, and that too from his TNA days.

@Da Cashman Because no on believes Undertaker is really shooting lightning bolts. Of course Jimmy would roll his eyes. It can't actually be done. Orange Cassidy and Kenny Omega suck shit. ECW was garbage wrestling for the most part. Hence why almost no one from it ever went anywhere, and all the guys racked up injuries for no pay. Smoky Mountain put some up the board just like ECW did. Both had an audience, and their gate receipts reflect that. Jim closed down SMW with his debts paid. Paul closed down ECW massively in debt, and even said he would have kept racking up that debt if he had had distribution. Cena, Orton, and Batista....so three of the biggest stars in the past decade. Oh and Lesnar, Shelton, and many more. OVW pretty much built WWE's top talent for a decade. Yeah, I guess that's why so many people have sought Jim out for his creative services....because he's not creative. Like Hell in a Cell, and Kane, and all that other uncreative work. Giving Foley the Mandible Claw, the move that put the Undertaker down more than anything else. Guess that's why Ric Flair, one of the greatest of all time, wanted Jim on his team. Guess that's why Dusty Rhodes, one of the greatest of all time, and a talented booker, wanted Jim on his team. And you're just some guy on youtube who doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

The funny thing is is that Jim was kind of right about Kevin Steen. Yeah he had a couple years of good attention in the WWE but then WWE quit pushing him and the reason why they quit pushing him was for The same things that Jim Cornett wanted him to work on when he was in ROH. I love how so many people talk about today’s wrestling and Jim has really never gotten a fair chance to work with modern day wrestlers using serious story lines and angles and matches that I actually have psychology. So many of today’s fans think Jim Cornett wants guys walking out there in cowboy hats and cowboy boots and pretending it’s 1983 when Jim has never said that or tried to put a cowboy hat on anyone. Sometimes southern wrestling gets mistaken for serious Wrestling because well southern wrestling were the only ones that really took it serious. Since WCW closed its doors 20 years ago we really haven’t had a wrestling company where they have tried to do things the right way. We’ve had WWE and then we’ve had half a dozen Indy style promotions that have national television and the only one of them that has eyes on them right now is AEW and that’s because they are owned by a billionaire that will pay to have them on a major network. But their fan base isn’t growing even with adding people like CM punk. Yeah he got a lot of ratings the first couple weeks but if you’re not gonna do anything the way it should be done then people are going to get sick of it and her already sick of him.

Financial security and utter confidence in yourself is one hell of a drug. Couple that with an undying love of Pro wrestling, and a (at the time) firm resolve that he would, somehow someway, pull wrestling back to being wrestling (Which is what ROH represented) and the corporate influence that's killed everything it's touched and you got a napalm bomb.

NXT/AEW they are still allowed to do most of their move sets from ROH. But Kevin Steen/Owens ladder match vs El Generico in ROH is much better than anything he's done in WWE for one example. There's not a promotion out there that's going to do things the way he wants or let him say some of the stuff he does (which does cross the line sometimes IMHO) and obviously, he's not the sort of guy who can keep his mouth shut and just collect a paycheck. I hate to see Jim gone from NWA. It was a nice fit for him. I have heard the wrestlers say a lot of things about Jim; but being prejudice was never said. He just told a 30 year old joke and the world has changed since the first time it passed from his lips. It is very offensive in 2019.

6:03 - 6:35 This. This here is the biggest reason why Cornette immediately started off on the wrong foot with ROH. I'm sorry, but his assessment of ROH was just incorrect. Look at the people who left under Jim as opposed to those who were brought in. Generico, Steen, Corino, Jacobs, Necro, Kingston, Aries, Nana, on top of guys who he dealt with and didn't end up leaving right away like Black, Strong, American Wolves, Briscoes, KOW, etc. Before Jim showed up, they were booking realistic, character based stories. It's not hard to find proof. Look who Jim brought in: Bennett, Mondo, A WGTT that clearly weren't motivated, Cliff fucking Compton, started doing SCUM invasions, feuding over USA vs Embassy, who plays sports better, and he says his booking was more realistic? Bullshit. Everything good he did, anyone would have done because it's the most basic shit to do. ROH became basic and boring under Cornette. He doesn't know what a modern audience wants, or he wouldn't have run off those who would become major stars and replaced them with midcard chaff.

Dude Cornette doesn't bring people in, Delirious/ Hunter did. Cornette literally says that he was the leason between ROH and the office and he helped format the shows. Cornette worked in SMW and OVW where he had to fulfill those needs weekly so he had plenty of experience in doing it. He wasn't the booker like he was in SMW so I think you're off on this.

Steen and Generico always had an attitude problem with 2 or 3 bookers before Delirious and Corny came in. Steen: He refused to drop weight, refused to clean his look up, refused to do finishes the way he was asked to do them. Always complained like an 80 year-old old man whenever he couldn't get his own way because he would of gone too far if he did. Generico: Emailed office guys asking them to pay for his airport parking in Canada. Refused to drop the gimmick that nobody knew what the fuck it was supposed be. He also refused to learn how to do promos. Steen is still to this day an ungrateful fat fuck. Corny bent over backwards for him, including paying for his visa and putting the main belt on him for almost a year even though he still at that point never did what he was told to do. Generico in 2013 finally did all what he should of done years prior.
