I can’t wait until Jim Cornette talks about Sammy Guevara refusing to do AEW house shows, because he “doesn’t want to take any unnecessary bumps”. Sometimes the jokes write themselves.

Because he's so stupid he doesn't realise on a house show loop you can do less bumps then what you do on TV an you don't have to wreck yourself in every single match you have doing stupid spots that don't make sense. He's another guy who thinks the only way to get over is to throw yourself through furniture every match

They should have a heel who intimidates the ref into doing their job. Heel beats the shit out of someone and throws them out the ring, turns to the ref with a mean face saying "count." Ref takes 5 seconds to count "one!" Heel looks at the ref a bit meaner and steps towards them Ref goes "two three four fivesixseveneightnineten!" Then holds the heels hand up acting afraid...

I remember laughing watching this match when Hobbs won because my first thought was "How the fuck is he going to get down from the ladder?". The look on his face and the somewhat frozen nature of his body as he's standing up on this ladder, on national television, in front of thousands of people in the arena... this big hoss of a human petrified and teetering on the precipice of having a nasty fall and either ruining his career due to potential injury or looking like a fool for falling. Ultimately it worked out and kudos to Hobbs for keeping it together, but it's one of those moments where I was in disbelief when I was watching it.

NO ! Shawn and Razor's ladder match wasn't a no DQ and it was a great match. Their Summerslam match was better if you can believe that, but if I had to choose which one it would be the Summerslam match. Found out later that Vince told them to 'tone it down a bit' which they agreed to ignore him and we as fans were glad they did. The ladder matches today are nothing compared to the ones in the 90s. By that I mean I don't care to watch them as much anymore. Used to be the ladder was the only weapon you could use in the match now participants are grabbing all sorts of stuff from under the apron. And yes, Cornette is right, instead of 2 people there can be up to who knows how many due to interference. WWE has killed watching Hell in a Cell matches since now they can grab, oh who knows what from either under the ring or get help from outside.

How about the fact that Wardlow just came back from a few months off, to face Joe, and the winner gets Hobbs. So, Warlow and Hobbs are going to have to lose within 2 matches. . . and most likely will disappear back to Dark. Great Push

I agree with that, but not in a ladder match. How can you be DQ'd in a multi-person match that is NOT elimination style, where the only way to win is to climb the ladder and grab the object?

As I recall, in WWE, the only times I've seen a ref holding a ladder has been when someone was doing a big dive from the ladder without it braced against anything. The ref holds the ladder to brace it so the wrestler doesn't spit the ladder out from under themselves when they jump. I don't recall ever seeing a ref hold the ladder so a wrestler can retrieve what ever is up there and win the match. The worst I've ever seen was an old Stampede wrestling ladder match. In that case they didn't have a step ladder like they use in ladder matches today. They had a ladder that you would prop up against a wall. The ref had no choice but to hold the ladder for the wrestlers otherwise it was impossible to climb.

I remember in the 95 Summerslam ladder match with Shawn and Razor. When Shawn first went up to win the match he couldn't get a good grip on the belt because it was too high. Then you could tell they lowered it and it was easy on his second attempt. Not sure why they couldn't do that for this match.

The one thing Jim was mistaken about is that the idea of any ladder match being no dq from modern wrestling fans comes from WWE. Every WWE ladder match since the 90’s has essentially been no dq.

I've seen referees brace ladders many times, but they at least try to make it look like they're pleading with the wrestler to refrain from doing whatever crazy thing they're planning while holding it. I don't recall seeing it while a guy is climbing to grab whatever item is suspended over the ring.
