I got to give Punk & MJF props and Tony Khan for having the foresight to do it. They made it better then how I could have wrote it. Fantastic angle, Linked the current feud with the historical elements of the past. I would typically be against doing a go-home show in a smaller arena/venue but this actually worked out and hearing the screaming of women & youngsters in the crowd, Made the angle feel more intense (Which is the best television. Realism). Even brought back the Miseria Cantare theme song for the PPV, Which was atmospheric and epic. Great visuals as well. That song will probably sell alot of units on ITunes or Apple tonight. It will take a couple shows to get the crowd singing & beating in unison but eventually, It will be fantastic television visuals if they stick with that theme. The Revolution PPV is getting rave reviews, So I applaud you guys.

"The greatest trick the devil Ever fid was that he made you believe he wasn't real, I am the devil" CM Punk told that promo after he won the ROH world title for the first time. And before that he told a story about a man and a wounded snake and how the old man treated the snake and brought it back to health, but the snake turned its back on the old man and bit him. "Stupid old man, I'm a snake"

It's also a nod to Jake "The Snake" Roberts' catchphrase, so it's technically a throwback to a throwback. Either way, MJF is one of the best heels I've ever seen in the last few years because his character is EVIL, period. All of it makes wrestling great. The people love drama, and they love the flippy stuff. You can't have all flippy stuff all the time or all heavy drama all the time. That's why the show is working so well right now. A decent mix of all things. Certainly can still be tightened up. This weeks battle royal was way better than the one last week. Much better paced and planned out. There's always ways to improve.

I really like Roman Reigns as a heel. Superstar status, and is over with the fans. They even cheer him at times. I like the type of heel that Cody Rhodes CAN be. His family history, reality show, pompous character work and ego could make him a great heel. That being said, MJF is the best heel in the wrestling business. Not the biggest star, yet. But the best heel that makes you think he is incapable of doing anything other than being a pompous, conniving, opportunistic jerk. The best going right now. Period
@202Kev
@202Kev 2 жыл бұрын
@Jay Bee I feel you. Great point. I would say that MJF is the best heel in the business now IMO because he has the character, natural disposition and creativity that makes him believable. When Lesnar was a heel in his early days tossing Zach Gowan down stairs, I cheered because I liked the heel nature of his character. In addition to the rre combination of size, speed, aggressiveness, and facials that made him a good heel. The same way women cheered post-Shield Rollins. I think people will find things to cheer about with heels oddly enough. Hollywood Hogan was full on heel with NWO in WCW, but as despised and over as a heel he was, people cheered him because he was cool. Playing air guitar on the belt, the dyed beard. John Cena is one of the most over babyface in the history of the business, and he stated getting booed. Fault of his own, perhaps. Or it could be certain people didn't like him as he was portraying a babyface. Still doesn't mean he wasn't a good babyface.

Reigns is heavily cheered these days, he was over af in Miami, it was loud and clear 'Roman, Roman' They were chanting for him. Reigns is at this point a tweener in my eyes and rightfully so. Reigns is the biggest star, MJF the biggest heel, simple as that.
@GodInHisPrime
@GodInHisPrime 2 жыл бұрын
@Jay Bee MJF rarely gets cheered (there are just certain crowds that will cheer heels no matter what). Think about his origin story promo, which was basically a babyface promo. It took the whole thing for him to start getting some cheers near the end. The only other time he got cheered recently was when he was in his hometown. He got cheered last show, but that was right after that insane promo. He even keeps kayfabe and acts like a dick outside of the show

@Unlitedsoul
@Unlitedsoul 2 жыл бұрын
@Jay Bee Even Brock was getting cheered when he was being booed, and there is a big difference between heel heat and "go away" heat. Brock was getting go away heat. Arguably the greatest heel of all time, Ric Flair, was cheered by a good quarter of the crowds he wrestled before. Ted DiBiase has always been, unquestionably, heel. Yet he was cheered by a portion of the crowds. The NWO, while having trash thrown at them nearly every night, got cheers. Nearly every time Cornette speaks of the crowd reactions to the Midnights in MidSouth, WCCW, and even JCP where riots broke out on a regular basis with fans trying to get to them... he mentions how there were fans also cheering them. The problem with your analysis is that, no one believes wrestling is a shoot competition anymore. As such, you will never have a "real heel" as you call it... without having go away heat. Go away heat isn't the mark of a great heel, but the mark of someone rejected by the fans entirely... and if that person remains in a primary position on the card, you lose fan interest. Roman Reigns just three years ago is a prime example of this. Brock, for a time, was an example of this. Nia Jax was an example of this. People don't show up or tune in to watch them get beat, as they did with the Midnights, Piper, the NWO, DiBiase, Rude, Perfect, Kowalski, the Funks, Adonis, Race, Roberts, Bockwinkle, Zbyszko, the Freebirds, Heenan, etc. etc. etc. Instead, they drove people away from the product.

I think if AEW had some better booking overall we could get a great MJF v Omega (No bucks, just Omega in this feud) with MJF attacking his time in NJPW. As soon as I heard the bell being rung, I got a huge grin on my face, and I was thinking to myself; these, these are the guys who learn from ideas people give them and listen to what people want to see, and actually try to improve their segments. As it stands right now, Punk, The Pinnacle, Bryan Danielson, Darby, Eddie Kimgston, and maybe Santana + Ortiz depending on where they go from here, these are the guys who actually get me hyped to see them on the show, because they *get it*

The minute Santana and Ortiz officially distance themselves from Jericho, everyone will love them and they will be worth watching all the time. What an insane, insane storyteller CM punk is. He basically wanted to come back to AEW because of how poignantly Brodie Lee‘s death was paid tribute to. He pitches an idea to come back and basically have his first major storyline conclude at revolution which is now basically AEW’s WrestleMania. He wants to have Brodie Lee’s famous dog collar match at Revolution so he’s pitched this idea of facing someone who is worth beating up that badly - that is MJF. And he pitched this back in August. What a visionary.

This is an amazing feud. This is what drew us in during the mid 90's and the Attitude Era. Good wrestlers who could talk and had charisma who were well defined faces and heels. This was absolutely amazing. Brian said a few months ago, I think with MJF's and Punk's first promo; "The good shit in AEW has been the best shit in WRESTLING!!" He's more right than ever before right now. Everything involving Punk, MJF, and Danielson is absolutely amazing. If AEW could get to a point where at least half of thier show was at or even near this good, they'd be the best promotion and the biggest very very quickly. I love that AEW is making strides and they're doing so because they're letting legit stars who are among the best of the best today and ever, go out and do their thing. They need just a few more players. I know hardcore AEW fans thinks it's perfect but be objective. The reason why this segment stuck out as much as it did was because the rest of the show was dog crap. They're on their way though. Rome wasn't built in a day. I haven't watched an AEW PPV since their first one. Not even when Punk came back. I'm going to watch this one!!!!! This reminded me of what we loved about wrestling oh so long ago and we're just not getting it anymore. God bless AEW, Punk, and MJF. *Chef's kiss*
@ak96ful1

The reason I love AEW is because it has something for everyone. Punk/MJF fued has been the best fued in wrestling in a long time. But I also like the highflying work rate matches too. If every segment was like Punk and MJF's, I can guarantee people would get burned out and same goes for the other styles aswell. I feel like their in a good place right now. Is it perfect? Hell no. There is a lot of room for improvement but atleast this company tries to satisfy its fans unlike its competitor.

Don't get me wrong, I believe this went exactly the way it should have. However, part of me would have loved to see Punk kick MJF in the nuts for a massive heel turn. The crowd was already warming up to the idea of MJF turning baby face so it wouldn't have taken much of a push for this to happen.

MJF and Punk have put on one of if not the best stories in the last 22 years in pro wrestling. MJF is soaking up the direction Punk is giving him and thriving. His previous promo showing a sliver of face behind the devil is just too damn good. You wanted to see what was happening right before the PPV. Also, low key, I think Corny wants AEW to succeed way more than what comes off. Even though he calls bullshit on guys or says things, it's his nature to do that. He is more invested in AEW than the other brands and has hope for the startup. If the AEW guys get those blocks off the net and actually listen, he's giving good advice from someone who knows what the hell he's talking about.

I cannot disagree that this angle has been significantly better then all other current angles AEW has going on at the moment. I don't think that's what will happen. I think MJF will win in a heelish way tonight since it's Punks stipulation (ring, cheat, etc) and then eventually Punk will get a rematch and that will be a main event down the road where he will get a final win. I don't necessarily agree with that, but I think that's what may just happen. It's way too early to beat MJF clean and that's how Punk would have to win (or choke out) otherwise. That would be extremely stupid and Punk knows that.

Punk is telling stories at this point with an unprecedented level of depth and gravitas. The complexities have 3 or 4 meanings, yet are simplistic enough to easily digest. WWE makes lots of money, but so do Marvel movies, and how relevant are they to the actual pulse and tone of our daily lives? Movies like Parasite and The Departed win Oscars. WWE makes Popcorn. Punk makes Art.
