The thing about “Wins and Losses” mattering is WRESTLING IS WORK! Wins and losses matter in the sense of presentation alone. You can have a guy beat 60 ppl(Pockets) and still wont mean anything if he’s presented as a joke. Goldberg’s streak mattered,not because of the wins but because he was presented as THEE next top guy. The whole thing that separates wrestling from real sports is that you can manipulate the perception of the athletes at your leisure,relying on wins and losses for a shoot only hinders you creatively. Tony Khan is proof of this.
@22savagetv5 ай бұрын
Well said. 👏🏽
@ModernDayRenaissanceMan5 ай бұрын
I disagree with this. It CAN be done, it just takes more work. Frustrating work. The type of work that they aren't willing to do. For example WWE wants to have AJ Styles fight LA Knight. Well AJ can just attack him every week until they fight. Rankings be damned. We see many title fights happen that way. In a perfect AEW if LA Knight is ranked #4 & AJ Styles was ranked #15 due to being injured, you can have them fight. There is no law that 2 people of different rankings can't fight. The result of a #4 losing to a #15 just has to be MEASURED correctly. Where does that drop LA Knight? Certainly not all the way to 15 from 1 loss? AJ doesn't go all the way to 4 from 1 win. So you'd have to take the ENTIRE roster week by week & get a SERIOUS "booking team" to "weigh" each win as if they were shoots. Submissions being the strongest, then pinfalls, then DQs, etc... then also by time... unless someone squashed someone with a 30 second KO - that' would be a strong finish, or a referee stoppage. You'd have to use your head about these things. But if AJ beat Knight in 30 seconds flat. He could be #6 or so. Knight would fall to #7. If AJ tapped him out in 15 mins that would put AJ #9 & Knight #6 perhaps. If AJ pinned him in a close - well fought match for 25 mins, then AJ would be #11 & Knight would be #5. A gain of 4 spots being significant because if 2 people fought that were close in ranking (#10 & #11) & 11 beat 10... they would just switch places... you'd rarely have matches setup that way. That's what makes it so hard. You'd need a room full of autistic people like myself to do it. So you're right in that it hinders you, but hindering doesn't mean PREVENTING. He's just not "that guy pal."
@prestonpfeiffer5 ай бұрын
@@ModernDayRenaissanceMan I dont doubt that you can do all of that but lets say they do a table spot at a ppv and AJ is now out for 6 months and they have to pivot between Saturday and Monday’s RAW,now the entire program is either postponed or scrapped altogether. My point really is that wrestling has way too many variables that make that kind of minute detail almost impossible,ESPECIALLY in AEW. As you said,it can be done but Tony Khan aint the guy to do it

When I hear a more sports based presentation, I'd imagine a moment during a match, or post-match, where they go. "take a look at this. [Wrestler] dove off the top ropes, and reached a height of X." Or "his kick/punched clocks in at this amount of power!" Or "look how quickly he gets the guy up for the suplex!" You know. Statistics and analytics that a sports based presentation would do. I don't think they've done any of that at all. The closest I've seen was some bomber weigh in? From how long ago?

It started with these interviews "Tony, you're a sucessful businessman" ..........NO! he NEVER was! His dad was. Everything they ever put Tony in charge of he ran into ground. It's taken 5 years, and even then people will say Tony sucks at wrestling, he is doing too much .......NO! Tony sucks at all those ventures too! Thats why his Dad gave him AEW to get him AWAY from the other businesses!

Tony Khan is the laughingstock of the wrestling business. I watch a lot of wrestling podcasts, and follow a lot of people in the wrestling business on twitter, and they all make fun of Tony, and they all say he does not know what he is doing, and that he is a bad booker. AEW is not doing good, as far as ratings go, it is on a downward trend. And I suspect by the end of this year even Dynamite will be down to about 600,000 viewers a show. They can not even sell out a 5,000 seat arena, if they are lucky they sell 3,000 tickets. While at the same time we know people want to see a good wrestling show, because the WWE is selling out almost every arena they go to, and they are bigger than the arena AEW is going to. They also get 1.6 million to 2.5 million people for both their shows on Monday and Friday. At this point, AEW will be lucky if they can sign a new deal with TNT, and just keep the show on the air. Unless Tony Khan hires a booker, and makes major changes to his shows, I do not see it lasting more than 2 or 3 more years, if that. Sponsors will not want to buy ads on a show with 500,000 viewers, especially when there are youtube channels that get more than that.
