Lying in bed, recuperating from back surgery at 77, and listening to Jim and Maury perform their songs helps me heal but my heart hurts for Jim’s family. His death left them and his fans with a piece of their hearts missing. I know the ache, I lost my wife 6 years ago and it’s the same emotion they must feel. God bless Maury and Jim. RIP

Proof that good music has no boundaries. Jim Croce died when I was 3 yrs old. I discovered his music during 7th grade chorus class. I am a 49 yr old black woman from Baltimore and I still listen and play his music until this day. He truly had soul and his music resonates within me. R.I.P. to one of the greatest 🙌🏾

I think too many people get distracted by the lyrics of these great songs, and just hear the accompaniment of the guitars. These two men were extraordinary musicians. I don't know if I've ever heard two that compliment each other as well as these two do. The picking on the song "Operator" is a thing of beauty. No matter where Jim takes any of his songs, Maurie is right there, right on time, coming in with his part.

I was 4 years old when Jim died. I was 8 when they advertised his album on tv. (The very Best of Jim Croce) I asked my mom to order it. She thought I was weird but hey ho and ordered it anyway. 2024 and I still own that album. Love you Ma and Mr Croce.

One of life's cruel ironies -- for SIX long years Jim searched for success, tirelessly recording and performing. Then he hit it big with a couple albums in his final year of life (1972-73) but was killed in a plane crash before he really had much time to enjoy the fruits of his many labors. RIP, Mr. C. August 1973. Saw him perform live at Channel 11 , WTTW studio downtown Chicago for a tapped performance. Sat at little tables with about 60 others. Magical it was. Wonder if my date at the time remembers? I sure do. A unique moment prior to my Sophomore year in college. Thank you for a moment of nostalgia !

As a 22 year old, there are few musicians who have had the same impact on my life that Jim Croce has had. I've got all of his records on vinyl, and they're the most played in my collection. There's never a bad day that his music can't immediately turn around. A soft and beautiful voice, with wonderful guitar work and truly deep and beautiful lyrics. It breaks my heart that he was taken just as the world was getting to know him. Rest easy Jim, and know that nearly 50 years later, your music is still changing peoples' lives.

My buddy and I were 16 years old in 1972 and we decided to hitchhike that summer from NJ to Provincetown inspired, in part, by Easy Rider. One evening, we were invited to the north end of town for a small party. An hour or so into the gathering, our host pulled out a "bootleg" cassette tape and said, "you have to listen to this guy, he's the real deal and going to make it big". Lit up a joint, kicked back on couch, and blissed out to Jim's genius.

Mr. Croce passed away 3 days after my 16th Birthday. I remember hearing about his plane crash on the radio after we had just moved to Colorado Springs. I live near Frankfurt, Germany now and I in November 2022, I was able to watch another of my childhood favorite performers James Taylor in concert. Being 66 yrs old now, and how I would have loved to see Mr. Croce perform. I now find out that he was in the army, so I say that from one veteran to another, thank you Mr. Croce for your service. I will always love your music sir.....

I admire people who can gracefully defer to another and take a secondary role. The guitars were really duets, but MM holds his voice back to be backup and not a co-star.

I'm a musician too. I was born the year Jim died. I discovered him at a really young age. I still hear the echoes of his voice in my memories of an extremely traumatic childhood. I have heard tell of music becoming scars for some people if they provided a soundtrack to their pain. But Jim saved me. The songs were my salvation and provided me a degree of psychological shelter. In my 20s I started playing in various bands and genres. I was never happy. Part of that was undiagnosed mental illness at the time or just being creatively unfulfilled. At 40 I had a good long think on my career such as it was. Because of mental illness, PTSD and high functioning autism, I'm on disability. But I still play and release music. At 40 I realized I wanted to be like Jim. No big production. No frills. Just an acoustic guitar and a voice. Vulnerable. I wouldn't ever compare myself to Jim. I'm still a hack. Laughable even. But I'll tell you I would have never made it this far or survived without his beautiful immortal soul. I'm sorry to rant. You best believe that if you read this, I love you and everything is going to be ok. In kindness, DH

Canuck Fundy I’m old enough to remember when Jim was on the radio and Sinatra covered his songs. He was pretty popular. But I have to agree with you. I’ve always had a hard time trying to figure out what category he fits in. If he were born a bit earlier he would have been a folk music star. His songs lyrically remind you of Woody. But he doesn’t really sound like folk. He’s not really Country either. That song “Willin” by Lowell George fits him.

I like hearing young people embrace older music. Not that I'm an old man just yet (I'm 42). But I worked with some early-20's kids at my last job and one day the P.A. system died, so I brought in an old portable 8-track player and some of my music. Two of the boys in my department almost immediately took to **my** music. One commented "I didn't know music could actually be FUN!" I guess listening to the garbage, dirges and just general horrible modern music, old stuff is definitely more fun. The other lad confessed to me that he LOVED older music, but to "fit in" with the crowd, he couldn't admit to liking older stuff for fear of being outcast. I could relate to that because even when I was in high school, my car had an 8-track deck and I played nothing but the golden oldies. Other kids had cars with cassette players or the rich kids had CD players but they all made fun of me and I was a social pariah.

Picked up guitar when I was 5 1968, got really interested in 1973 at 10 years old. Listened over and over to Jim, practiced hours and hours in my bedroom every night. His songs and strumming taught me how to play the guitar!!! Not sure if I can play it good but learned a whole lot from pickin' and a grinnin'!

He was not only a great singer but an honorable man. Watch a documentary on him. He is a great role model. Look up “ Behind the Music “ and put in his name let me know what you think. I raised my two boys on old time music. I don’t even allow them to play rap

This is the music that I grew up with... nothing compares to it today. My favorite artist. What a tragic loss. His son, AJ, does a good job on his dad's songs. AJ was just in concert in St. Louis.

I was 7 when he died.... Broke my heart as a kid Loved his songs as they came on the radio and by 12 i got a guitar and began learning his songs and realized Jim was a gift that will never be replaced. He wrote a song for just about everybody. Thanks for the.pictures and videos and to his wife and son for keeping his music alive all these years. Rip everyone on that airplane. Jim was keeping a promise to play there otherwise he would not have been there to hit the tree.

I was only six when he passed away! I heard his music on my sisters turntable and she just got the record! The album was Photographs & Memories! Boy what memories I have of those days listening to those songs back then and still to this day they don't get old!

I was already a fan of Jim's. I was with a couple friends walking to high school on the morning of September 21, 1973 when one of my friends matter of factly said, "Did you hear? Jim Croce got killed in a plane crash". My heart sunk. I really liked his music. I still do. Not much more to say.

Linda Young here. Very beautiful. I listened to Jims songs in the 70s as a kid. I have a younger brother named Jim. We would sing the, " Don't mess around with Jim," especially. I had no idea Jim Croce died so young. He seems like a beautiful, family Man.

The musicianship in these is staggering. This is how you do an acoustic duo. Full stop. Great songs, arrangements, playing, lead vox, harmonies, rhythm & lead guitar, banter. Seems like people were just better at this in the 70s. At least he was.
