He survived Vietnam but died shorty after in a plane crash. A very talented man.

Love me some Jim Croce!! I like every song he wrote. "Time in a Bottle," "I Got a Name," "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song," and the others! I still feel the shock of his death, and it's been decades! Too young, too soon!

With all due respect, I have been a huge serious fan of Jim Croce for years and I can tell you that 100% fact that unlike all his other hits, Jim did not write "I Got A Name". That was written by Norman Gimbel, another famous song writer. Jim Croce heard it and insisted on recording it because it reminded him of his Dad. Everything else you stated is 100% right on and I agree. Happy Thanksgiving.

This is a song that really aches. You just don't go over a betrayal so easily,it just don't. He wants to talk to someone, to have a catharsis. I wonder the operator was left thinking about that call.

I would like to think he would have had a musical career like Richie Havens:kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIDSpXaMgquhmac You may have heard of this performance in 1969: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKrRqaSag7Klr5Y

Great guitarist and storyteller. I was becoming a fan right before that tragic crash. Very few had those lyrical gifts. "She's living in LA, with my best old ex friend Ray." And in the same song: "there's something in my eyes, you know it happens every time."

Jim and Maury were killed in a plane crash on September 20, 1973 after performing a make-up date at Northwestern College in Louisiana. The plane crashed on take--off after it one of the wings clipped a row of pecan trees as it did not gain enough altitude to clear them. The pilot suffered some type of health event during the takeoff,.......possibly a heart attack.

I don’t know how you can get through this song without crying. It is sad and haunting and beautiful. Because it’s universal. We’ve all been in a situation like it. And then he died so young and we all know what we lost that day.

If you like this you'll love Nick Drake, you'll be needing a lot of tissues to dry your eyes. Like Jim, Nick left us very young. His sister Gabrielle Drake has overseen his legacy. River Man, Way to Blue and Day is Done are three short yet wonderful songs from his first album, Five Leaves Left. Melancholy beauty tempered with the poetry of the English Romantic tradition. There is in Old English a word, Dustsceawung, which means a contemplation of the dust, this is what Drake does in many of his songs.

Jim Croce song/video viewers go for "the low hanging fruit" of romantic songs. But he wrote different kinds of interesting songs, too. Take this song, about Prison. It fits "Andy Dufresne" in "The Shawshank Redemption": kzbin.info/www/bejne/a17JlKmkjql4gJI A song from Jim's truck driving days before music began pay off: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3vGdXptj8hqpas The ups and downs of musical fame: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2Kvp5-Bq9dmeJY A song about an extraordinary athlete: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5-og6R_i7WWja8

Hey, ya’ll, this song is about overcoming the “blow”, hey Cocaine, Heroin. Addiction caused him to lose the love of his life. He wishes it was not real. Don’t we all wish that way about our biggest mistakes in life.
