I also hate to see Ken go, and it was traumatic when Buck died from colic. Just please God, may Ken NEVER end up in the slaughter pipeline as so many draft horses do! He is an older horse, and whomever buys him may have to make a hard decision about his end of life eventually. After many years of loyal excellent service, he should not ever face the kill pens! Look up Fletcher Farms, where they have rescued 69 draft horses from slaughter and there are others like Gentle Giants. I wish there were a way that we could keep up with Ken and his life with the new owner!

As a Old Horseman from Atlantic Canada, I whole heartily agree with Jim and Brenda on their decision to sell the 2 fillies Bree and June to an experienced horsemen or horsewomen who would be able to develop sometime and invest a few years of training in them Both the Filliies have had some great ground training and have great barn manners as well. . I could in a few years the full sisters making a decent team of mares. As far as Ken the Percheron Gelding is concerned, if a retired person who would be looking for a well trained and good natured driving or garden horse Ken would fit the bill perfectly. Jim is right Ken needs a bit semi daily work to keep the celienosis in check. With Jim's busy work schedule logging and farming . The 2 teams of Bill & Duke and Baron & Earl are definitely suffiecent to do the work . Also Lady has the new foal coming in the spring. It's really important that Jim and Brenda keep focused on their future plans.

Ken and Buck were the reason I found your channel. I had my granddaughter was sitting on my lap to keep her out of the kitchen. She loves to go on wagon rides with me so I pulled up KZbin to entertain her with some videos of horses that look like mine. Working Horses With Jim with his team of blacks was the first thing listed. I've been watching and learning ever since.

After years of watching your channel it greatly pains me to even think that Ken would leave. It was with broken heart to hear of Ken's stable mate...the other Black's death due to colic. Now,not having any blacks wrenches my heart. Even though you own the horses,us viewers feel like we own them as well. A kindred spirit. I am both sad and happy. I am a former owner of lots of horses. I know and feel your dilemma. It is all for the best no matter how painful. Good luck. And the new owner will be blessed with their purchase.

We have a beautiful 16 stall barn and 40 acres and lots of trees he could help clean up ooo it breaks my heart. But I am sure he will be taken by someone who will love and use him! I always find it difficult to get rid of your own animals. Despite everything, you have built a bond with them. It is a little easier with the two youngest. There the personal bond is a little more tenuous. And Lady still has time to appoint successors. I can also understand the choice with Ken. Ken is an extremely good colleague for his new owner. Ken has the quality to teach you as a person how to deal and work with horses. You don't have to teach Ken something, no Ken teaches you something. And if you, as the new owner, understand that and want to see that. Well then you have the best team around... Jim and Family, I wish you the best of luck with your sales plans. And hope for a new addition from Lady.

So glad you are healing well. In this life there is always change and change is usually for the best in the long term. I know it is hard to make these decisions, but it is best for all involved and I know you will only let the horses go to people who will love and take care of them. You would never give them up, just to get rid of them. You both have too much integrity. But as we age, we also need to do what is right for ourselves and our animals. May God who cares for all and loves those horses as well, guide you as you seek to move them to a good home for them.

Such a shame you feel you have to let Ken go - an older horse who is settled and happy in his home with his human and equine family . I do understand about the need for work/exercise -I have a Belgian Draft cross myself. Is there any way Ken could be used on the farm for separate tasks, or perhaps you could invite people to learn from you about working horses using Ken to drive? Of course, as a horse owner, I don’t want to suggest that I know what is best for your horse but my heart goes out to Ken , having to leave all he knows.

My team of four year olds easily do all the work. i loved you guys with the care and talk you did about how great ken was and the fillies. But we have 18head and are in our 60s. we've been in horses all our lives. We knew when you got hurt you would do this. you're afraid you'll get hurt again. we understand the fillies going. But not KEN. Whoever gets him will over work him or he will be junk horse. Once in awhile worked or kid ridden. One limp and he's gone. People don't put money in old horses. you're getting rid of him because he doesn't go fast enough and he's getting older. Jim so are you. He's never let you down. Don't let him down and don't crush all of us as Brenda calls him KENNY. we love him. His black coat is beautiful and so is he. God bless him. If you need money to feed him say so and I'm sure we all could help. Just don't be that guy who gets rid of the one who has helped you with those you "trained". He helped most of all and they learned from experience.

I think that Jim's difficult decision is based on common sense; I am fairly certain that Jim and Brenda will be very careful in selecting who will get to buy the horses. Just like you I was sad to hear the Ken was part of the horses he is considering to sell. My only concern is that someone takes him in and, once lameness comes back, ends up selling him at auction where he will certainly end up in the slaughter pipeline. I am not in a position to understand what it is like to make such a decision but I wish Jim could consider having Ken go to a retirement sanctuary if there is such a place near him. The only problem with that is that one usually has to pay to place the horse in one of those. Gentle Giants (Maryland), Pony Tales Refuge and many others all make sure that future owners are vetted before adoption and they keep track of the adopters. It is a difficult choice no matter what one does.

Jim I’m glad your healing well, but I am very disappointed about selling the horses, in particular dear KEN. HE HAS BEEN A MAINSTAY OF YOUR HORSES AND HE WILL BE SORELY MISSED!😔😔🐎😆

I love Ken. I worry so much about the pipeline to Mexico.. Ohhh noo They won't get as great of care anywhere else. I know business is business, BUT !!! I know they will miss you...They will. Can't you do checks on the people who buy him? I will really miss that horse.. Ugh!

I understand your plight. Ken has been a stable of your videos as did Bill. The fillies, well lots of work to condition them, train etc I understand. Why not let go one of the sorrel brothers instead? Ken has value….used for the garden, sleigh rides, fencing, heart of gold and steady as steel! Watched your daughters ride him bareback….please reconsider your choice. Thanks

I guessed you would-be selling the fillies, Bree ( DOB, 27 of May 2023 I remember her birth day... it was so much fun to watch along I hope she goes to a great new home . Little June. June 12 2024 which was also an adventure I enjoyed... wouldn't it be nice be nice if they could go together to the same new home. I was surprised you were going to sell Ken... I guessed Duke. I'm 🙏 for a good new home for Bree , June and Ken. I so enjoy watching your channel....❤ I am looking forward to up coming videos and of course excited for the for the new baby foal.... Be cool if we had another Birthday Guess Party prize .... and bonus points for the winner if they can guess the gender 🤔 You look good Jim Glad your doing okay. See ya tomorrow 😜 Blessings to You & Brenda

Damn I was really interested in seeing Bree and April grow up and start working. Ken makes sense. Please don't let them go to the slaughter pipeline.

I know you will make sure they go to good homes, but it still worries me that they (especially Ken) could end up in the hands of a kill-buyer and shunted into the slaughter pipeline. PLEASE make sure that does NOT happen! 🙏💔🙏

It must have been a hard decision but I totally understand. Every horse needs its attention and work. And you only have 'two hands'. when I started to watch this video I was guessing which three horses you were talking about. Immediately the two young ones came in mind..but than...You have two great teams now, Lady is with foal and Ken is Ken......But you are right, Ken can not just stay around...he also needs an assignment and work; in his condition, he also has to keep moving and he has so much to give
