As a victim of sexual assault, I find Jim Jeffries absolutely hilarious. I am not offended in any way and it doesn't bring up any bad feelings or memories. In fact, the only reason I am mentioning it now is because of the author who wrote the article against him and said he can't joke about rape. Obviously he can and he was uproariously funny. Not only is it what you say, but how you say it, and Jim nails it every time. It feels good to laugh like everyone else instead of isolating myself and looking for a reason to feel victimized all over again. Thank you JJ for helping me feel like a normal person again.

Good for you .. The shame felt by rape victims is problematic in that it's somehow "natural" & yet totally unjustified.. Anything that De-traumatizes the unfortunate event of being the victim of Sexual Assault is For The Good.. Humor does that .. OF COURSE we must guard against De-horriblization of such assaults - BUT not at the expense of augmenting the suffering of its victims.

I live in NYC, have seen both live as comedy is pretty popular here. I would have to say that Jefferies does a better stand up show, but Stanhope is a nicer guy in real life. Jefferies (and don't get me wrong, he's hilarious) wouldn't really see anyone after the show and he didn't say much to his fans where as Stanhope actually came to the bar, drank with us for a bit and ripped on my buddy for about 15 minutes for smoking weed and not drinking. Also, Jefferies gets slightly uppity when he feels the audience isn't clapping or reacting enough. Stanhope very plainly doesn't give a fuck what you think about his act as long as hes getting paid.

There certainly is different levels of rape and as far as the drugging goes, it's the lesser of two evils. I was drugged and raped but a friend was raped wide awake and she fought back and got seriously beaten up. Someone knocked on her door cos she was screaming and spooked him or he might've fucking killed her. Her experience was waaaaay more traumatic than mine.
