Not when it comes to height. There is a sense of relativity there that makes much more sense in the imperial system.

There's a sense of relativity in the metric system too though? Any system that involves a succession of things will have it.
@madman2u6 жыл бұрын
+Hemanth Swarna *It* really doesn't because it's not logical. The only way it makes sense to you is because you've learned the set measurements. Generally speaking a foot is not a set measurement since feet come in different sizes. It'd be the same as having measurements in trees and define a tree as 10 meters tall even though trees comes in many different sizes. It's completely arbitrary just like the imperial system.
@lefterisphasarias89346 жыл бұрын
Hemanth Swarna what sense of relativity are you talking about? feet? i'm supposed to look at someone and imagining in my head how many steps i would take on them to cover them face to toe? and even then, its not about my foot's length but a dead king's one, so i would still be off. No, i dont get it, it still makes zero sense.
@derekmorgan21306 жыл бұрын
are you suggesting that saying I'm 5 of the late king of England's feet stacked heel to toe and 24 barley seeds tall is not a precisely accurate and more relateable system of measurement? Next you'll say that measuring land by roughly how far an ox can drag a plough before getting tired is not an accurate form of measurement.

The big issue you are facing now is the adversarial mentality which mr. Trump unfortunately seems to be fueling, on top of that your very opinionated news media isn´t helping.

It doesn't say 10 anywhere on the dime. It says "one dime"
@josearqco5 жыл бұрын
Keep it! is a cultural thing, if someone doesn't know, they can (and have to) learn. So we don't have to be that lazy, there's no problem at all with using both systems; if it was for that, there only would be one language, wich would be such an awful thing.

I like the way he's comfortable enough in his Australianness to pronounce Fillet O' Fish the Australian/Commonwealth way and not translate himself for Americans. I found myself translating when I lived in the US. Now that I am back home in Australia it has taken me years to lose "cell phone" and I still haven't ditched "soda". Other words I use differently depending on whether I'm talking to Australians or my American wife -- "trash/rubbish" is an example here.
