sanedem I laughed too, but I thought Labyrinth came out in like '85. I checked wikipedia, glass spider tour was in '87, Labyrinth came out in '86.

So feasibly, Jim saw the film in the cinema before picking up on Bowie as a musician. He may also have liked Bowie's music before he saw the film, and picked up on the Glass Spider tour as the first big tour he remembers. (Might his mum or his dad have been playing Scary Monsters and Super Freaks to him, perhaps on a cassette in the car as they drove him to school? Might it have been The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust?) His point that the interviewer's first Bowie experience was through a Labyrinth repeat on TV and not as a working, present star still seems pertinent. For what it's worth, my first Bowie wasn't Labyrinth but seeing him as the narrator in the Snowman as a kid. My family's tastes were elsewhere though, so my musical introduction to him wasn't until much later.

I once looked at a house for sale. Inside was a solitary old woman and about 300 porcelain dolls - on shelves, beds, tables, chairs - dolls everywhere. Staring silently, their thoughts indiscernible, waiting for us to leave.

i've changed my mind, we are overly sanitized. But thats only because half of America doesn't believe in washing their hands after taking a shit. We are not overly censored tho, at least not to the extent of other countries. Maybe because I live in SF. I think there's a misconception that we all come from a tucked away corner in southwest. A lot of us live in or near big cities. We see crazy shit everyday. I think Jim was trying to make that clear in the interview.

So I think he's really funny but just from the abruptness of his answers about changing his act and restrictions from HBO it's clear that the opposite is true. As in he's saying no he hasn't changed his act to keep HBO happy.

+Mark LaPolla '77, '85. Still the same generation. I was born in '79. Star Wars came out 2 years before I was even born yet it's still a part of my cultural zeitgeist. It's the kids born in like, 1992 that I can't see as anything other than a foreign species.

Or this may be tthe reason he left.While living in Manchester, England, Jefferies, his girlfriend, and his roommate Steve Hughes were victims of a violent burglary. Two intruders broke into their house in Whalley Range while they were home. Jefferies was hit over the head with a machete and his girlfriend was tied up while the intruders robbed the house.The men received a 12-year sentence for bodily harm, aggravated assault,attempted rape, car theft, and possession of a Class-A drug..HOW'S THAT?

The reporter seemed to have a stereotype of America being censored that she kept trying to confirm. That Jim Jefferies would need to alter his act for the American public... America is home to Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock ect, ect, why would Jim Jefferies material be any different, he's not the first edgy comedian.
@85Aheadstix7 жыл бұрын
Americans need most jokes explained to them. go to the UK, they understand irony and dry humour.

Well maybe you shouldn't have placed his ancestors on a prison ship & sent them to a penal colony ( Australia ) At one time we didn't want ya' now we are affraid that we will lose you...The stereotype path seems pretty well traveled, what the hell i might as well walk it too...
