@@jonathanisrael1707 i assume he doesn`t hate but maybe he is not impressed with DBZ (very normal if you know anime so much before (70s - 80s - 90s ) and if you are used to see graphic quality and history over exaggeration and sensationalism) Goku is an extremely overrated character at the point that the fanboys idealize -->create a fantasy version in their minds of a fantasy character or better explained -->make an absurd fantasy of the fantasy they watched, and they invent insane theories of his capabilities , having the limits of that guy shown in the tv show several times, a misundestood character..Also if they were not fans of anime and they see and liked DBZ they only see DBZ but don`t see or don`t want to see other anime titles that have better elements

Why are people complaining about Goku's face?? It looks good to me. Guys... this is Jim Lee we're talking about. He's an actual artist, a style of his own and proud of. Unlike the people you see in Instagram who "replicates" Akira Toriyama's style .

You can't draw a cog and say it's your version of a circle... Goku is not some super power that has been passed from character to character and 30 artist get a rendition like flash or some other superhero... With that being said, it's a poor execution of the face, looks like he just did a face he was familiar with and didn't go for Goku...

@@1UpTroy Dude, when different Mangakas draw Goku they don't give him the Toriyama face, they give him thier style of face. That's exactly what Jim Lee is doing. Also, this is not a cog, it's a drawing.

Exactly right, I always respect the artist who tries their own interpretation as opposed to simply replicating, regardless of their experience. I find it more interesting seeing different approaches used for established characters. Whilst it's jarring seeing any DBZ character in anything other than Toriyama's style but simply copying it makes the artist less impressive. Plus it's Jim Lee as you say. I'd like to see him try Cell.

I think peopel totally miss the point, if you look up mangakas drawing each others main hero for example kishimoto drawing luffy and oda drawing naruto, the faces look totally different because they draw it in their own artstyle. if you complain about gokus face you are not getting the point and should take out the stick out of your ass. have a nice day

Faruk if you want to see a stunning example of different art styles, just look at Jojo's bizarre adventure. It gradually went from over the top muscular men in the first parts then stylized realistic art in the later parts.

This piece is actually a piece of cake for Mr. Lee. For those who may have not known him, at least not seeing his other works you'd say things like this and that. He could make the fac f Goku. Yes, we see it doesn't loo, like Goku but as what one say it is about the style. I think Lee said that here, did not just hear it much. He can evem drew a whole poster with Amazing, perfectly made one like Goku s Superman if he wanted to. He is by the way the best batman comic artist. His art, 3 series sold Millions of dollars when he worked in Marvel. The hihest at the time.

The only western drawing of Goku that actually look good and like it'd fit in the world. So many western styles of characters like Goku end up looking exactly like a generic superhero with big hair slapped on. you made an anime face work in a western style. That's an achievement right there.

Artistic choice is an interpretation of ones idols, experiences and stylistic preferences. Jims version of goku looks stellar and amazing. I so excited that he chose to draw him. The energy he brings is incredible. :') We should be honored.

So...Dragonball is just as complex as the Marvel or DC universes, complete with multiverses, multiple timelines, convoluted god hierarchy and insanely overpowered techniques...some that are beyond universal level destruction...in fact...I would say that Superman Prime one million and Ultra Instinct Goku would give each other a run for their money...always love to see different artists' renderings of various characters...especially when I see crossover manga/ western styles...those are always fun.

Take it as y9u may, But Jim, you and John byrne helped me create comics on so many levels. I studied your and his style for perfect body design, I am uploading my characters from over 20 years ago. I am trying to get back in the business. But more Marvel, especially if they do Alpha Flight and the origin of Dept.H. Would be awesome if you and John did a mini-series for that. The fact that he added his own twist to the sketch makes him a true artist. I think this is a pretty amazing sketch of goku .

Looks pretty good. Not really a fan of how you put pencil scribblings all over it when you finished inking it but it's overall really damn dynamic. The only other thing that kinda made me cringe is when you were going over the lines and you were right by that gap where his wrist meets his wristband and you didn't connect the lines. Goku actually looks really good in this style.
