I’ve been writing poetry & short stories since I was 8 yrs old & when I discovered The Doors as a teen, I became an instant fan & admirer of Jim’s writing; have been for decades. In addition to being one of the most charismatic, eccentric frontmen in rock, he was highly intelligent (IQ 149), actually shy, & down to earth, much different than his stage persona. He always felt he was misunderstood & really wanted to be more of a poet than a rockstar. Sadly, he developed alcoholism & issues w/drugs, but I think people forget he was human after all. None of us are perfect, & I am grateful that we will always have the gifts of his music & writing that he left behind.

Tbh the one and only thing I really hate about Jim was how he treated women. As a woman, that’s natural. However he was intriguing and mysterious, a fascinating person and incredibly misunderstood, I feel.

Hey Eric, I was a huge Morrison fan as a teenager and by far the best book written about him is No One Here Gets Out Alive by Danny Sugarman. (Jim was really kind to Danny as a kid) Oliver Stone gives it no credit but the movie has much more of it than anything else. Also, he wrote Wonderland Avenue, which is another great story that talks a lot about Pam as well as Ray Manzerick almost starting a band with Iggy Pop. (They did a show together and Ray said he couldn't live through another Jim) I really think you would enjoy them.
