Thanks for watching episode 08 of Jon's Tone Chronicles, a show all about awesome rock/metal guitar tones, guitars, amps, pedals and all sorts of music/recording gear! This episode is all about signature gear from the guitarist of Slipknot Jim Root. Jim has a great taste in guitars and amps! While we're at it we're also going to compare the Orange Jim Root Terror to the Orange Rockerverb 50 MKIII. Of course I'm using my Fender Jim Root Telecaster with EMG's as the guitar here.
Thanks for watching! Please drop a comment down below as I'd love to know your thoughts! Also subscribe along with the bell and follow SDS at:

Love these amps and this guitar! Not the most fierce and tight metal sound but definitely unique! What do you think???

and yet again an awesome video from Jon, thanks for this mate! I love Orange amps, used the following heads over the years CR120, RV 100 MKII, OR50 and now I own a Dual Dark 50. I'm impressed by their sound, the simplicity and the versatility: you don't need 17 pots and 7 switches per channel to shape a very usable and well defined sound and this on a great scale. last time we put an acoustic guitar into my DD50's channel A, a reverb in the loop and it handled it astonishingly great. anyway, Orange fanboy out. ;-)

Hearing these riffs it almost feels like a shame that they don't end up on an album or complete songs somewhere. Imagine if there existed an Intwine right now that sounded like this :).

They both sounded great. Very, very similar with those settings. They did have slight differences, mostly slight differences in tonal characteristics, but I didn’t notice much of the differences you described. Maybe KZbin’s audio compression evens it out a bit. Anyways, great review as always.

Love the texture of the distortion. Perfect for Doom but the slight hairiness could also suit a goth/industrial style as well. Type-O Negative anyone?

JRT - great amp. His Hi gain is true and Crunch - ideal. Clean is good too. Sound such as mastered. No garbage in lo and hi frequences. I have JRT, TT, Dark Terror and love they all. Only 5150 and Laney IRT is good in comparison with Orange. Imho.

To me, both amps sound great, I find the rockerverb to be less dirty, I like it more. It is always a pleasure to see comparisons when the playing and the riffs are good. Many channels try to do it but fail cause when the playing is boring, it is impossible to get excited by the amp so bravo for that, you always create something exciting for the audience, thank you.

Veeeeeeeery cool. They are really close. The Rockerverb has this little extra oomph that gives even more kick, but frankly in a band mix context I wouldn't know the difference.

indeed, but not only. I love them especially coz of their versatility: the amps I know from my own experience (CR120, OR50, TH30, RV 100 MKII and DD50) are handling pedals well, can do nice cleans, raspy crunches and thick tones as well. as I wrote above, the metal monstrosity Dual Dark can do lush ambient acoustic guitar with reverb as well, not only Sleep's thick fogscreen with high end sizzle on top. ;-)
@dildojizzbaggins6969
@dildojizzbaggins6969 3 жыл бұрын
@@szabolcsrapp4279Yup. Got an EQ in the loop of my TH30, and boosting the front with a Savage Drive. Keeps the growly Orange-character, but tightens it up and kicks it into modern territory. In drop C and with Fishmans that is brutal tonal bliss :D From all the demos I've watched, the Dual Dark seems to be Orange's most modern-sounding amp. Discontinued though, sadly... Indeed.
@szabolcsrapp4279
@szabolcsrapp4279 3 жыл бұрын
@@dildojizzbaggins6969 luckily I own a Dual Dark 50... 🤩 It is kind of a modern amp in a sense that it is tighter than an OR50, but it is still an Orange amp and it is loose enough for me (I don't like the bass cut and the TS boost on amps, but that's me). 🤷‍♂️ Both channels go from clean to almost full blown fuzz with huge low end, but the YT videos are kinda masking the real tonal characters of the channels, making them sound similar. In reality when pushed Channel A is more raw and uncompressed, barky even, Channel B is much more compressed and has this high end sizzle Matt Pike is known for. After buying the Dual Dark I ended up swapping my EMG81s to passive Seymour Duncan P-Rails in my guitars and I use Channel A for cleanish tones and B for dirt. But Channel A can do lush ambient tones as well, I just came from rehearsal for an acoustic gig, used an acoustic guitar and a reverb in the loop = unbelievable chill tones. An EPIC HEAD, for sure, I will never sell it! 🍊
@dildojizzbaggins6969
@dildojizzbaggins6969 3 жыл бұрын
@@szabolcsrapp4279Lucky rich bastard... :P By "high-end-sizzle", do you mean fizziness? Because people complain about that especialy with the TH30/100. But that only happens when you play it too quiet and use all pre-amp-gain. Oranges need to be cranked somewhat to sound their best.
