Not the best live performer,but I liked his personal music and he was a decent actor. I wish he come out of retirement. He really did have "it" if you go back and watch season 1 the cameras were in love with him. He had more personality But that can't take you all the way,Kelly Clarkson Is the only Idol Winner not to have their audition shown. on the first airing. Hell she didn't show up on camera until top 20 girls,but her amazing voice was on a league of her own. If not for her Idol would probably never got a second season because it was by far the weakest season.Half of season 1's finalists would not have made it past group day of Hollywood Week in a later season.

the beginning was REALLY shaky. toward the end, he was better. you could definitely tell he was nervous by the way he was quiet. his music is good now!

Thats why american idol changed on the 1st show america got a chance to pit the contenders for the show. Now its left up to the judges, because people felt sorry for him when simon chewed him up and spit him out. So people voted for him and he made the top ten, he did not belong there at all.

When you look at the overall life of American Idol...overall...these finalists from the first season were horrible...I know it was the pilot season, but listen at these voices overall...I always wonder if everyone in the first season would have made it in subsequent seasons against the likes of Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, LaToya, Carrie, Vonzell, Anwar, Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet, Jordan Sparks, Amber Holcombe, Katharine McPhee, Hayley Reinhart, Candice Glover, etc. etc. (I believe they would have even given Kelly a run for her money)...just a thought.
