A flashlight is an all to often overlooked self defense tool. Deterrance is always the best first defense. When you have no choice but to engage then a pen can always be at hand even in places where balistic or bladed tools are not allowed. Great video.

Tom Olofsson I always carry my flashlight. It is the single best tool for staying safe, whether it is lighting up black ice on a winter night, or a Perp standing in the shadows.
@tmos5409 жыл бұрын
SystemOfStrategy Same, although I use mine more for those "Hey, who has a light" to get light thrown on whatever is in question faster than those with a cellphone, cuz I'm competitive like that. Keep a little Fenix baby light on my keychain.
@jawbonephd9 жыл бұрын
Tom Olofsson Very true. It's very useful to have a flashlight in low-light situations, though I have to admit the multi-function tactical lights don't quite work for me. As the majority of the time mine is being used simply as a tool, things like strobe, SOS, and high/low settings just kind of get in the way. But I'm a little weird about "tactical" pens. In many cases where weapons are forbidden the staff has the authority to determine what is or is not a weapon based on their own discrimination. That's why if someone asks about tactical pens and impact weapons I usually recommend a large chisel tip Sharpie. People often retort "Oh, but they're made of cheap plastic" and that's true, but there are made of very thick cheap plastic. I've done some serious tests with them and have even been able to crack a coconut with one and have never been able to generate enough force to compromise its structural integrity. Plus they are very wide and therefore offer a wonderful surface to grip, are cheap and easy to find, and incredibly unlikely to be confiscated or banned by anyone, anywhere.

Tom Olofsson, personally, if I was attacking someone and they flashed a knife, I would not want to engage. no one gets hurt...

i was going to post this, so glad to see somebody else wrote about flashlights! i have defended myself twice against a would-be perp. the first time i blinded the guy and managed to run, and the second time, different man, the perp still rushed me, but missed initially because he was temporarily blinded. i managed to stay upright and bashed him over the head with it and then run away.

CRKT OFFICIAL So with keys, I always heard that you should hold between your thumb and the most proximal knuckle, because holding keys like James demonstrated (the Wolverine grip) will really hurt if you miss everything but the most fleshy targets, whereas the more icepick grip will help brace your hand much like a properly formed fist.

First off, very eye opening. I live in and around small towns and I don't much think about security. I don't feel threatened and I probably should. Being mugged or attacked doesn't scare me as much as be helpless down right angers me. The information in the video is very useful. The tactics are basic and life saving. I found that aside from CRKT products, every day items that we all have around are useful and great deterrents. This video has inspired me to look into my own personal defense and the items I carry every day. I will now look at the items I carry in a very different light and will look to upgrade what I have. Thank you for such an inspiring video.

I hadn't thought of that, good idea! Crime in my town is getting worse. A month ago an elderly woman was attacked while leaving church in the afternoon while a police car sat nearby. In NY state we're only allowed to use force equal to what is used on you. For example if a six foot man were to punch me in the face my first action must be to run away. If I can't do that then I can only punch him in the face, I'm a five foot five inch female.

The 'tools' presented here mean you have to be in close proximity of the attacker. I prefer a Canemaster combat cane. I have about a 7 foot almost 8 foot reach. A smash from a combat cane will break an ankle, destroy a kneecap, break a hip bone, break 2 or 3 ribs, break arm bones, break collar bones, and if used to the head one blow is death to the attacker. Learning to swing and smash with a combat cane takes about 2 to 4 weeks.Learning to use the cane to get out of being grabbed does not take too long either. Depends on how many hours you put into it. If a 6 month cane student went up against a 3 year karate student....... the cane man would destroy the karate student. He would be off to the hospital. The cane is legal to take anywhere in the world and through any security. Here is a nice one >> www.canemasters.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86_108&products_id=57

+Anthony Schurz and as for the knife, this man is wearing a thickleather jacket. when grabbed from behind, take knife and hold blade sharp edge away from you. then plunge several times into inner thigh region of attacker( femoral artery) and groin. if grab from front, most of time both attackers hands will be on shoulders. take knife with sharp edge out and away from you. then punch up words in between his hands towards throat from right to left. severing left side of throat. then one hand is up pull back down into right side of his throat, plunging knife blade into right side of throat above collar bone with twist. pull knife back out step back holding knife facing towards attacker at your chest then give extreme kick to groin. then evade while attacker bleeds out and dies

I think the pen is awesome. I've always been a fan of practical tools like a pen. I just never thought anybody would make one this strong. Strong enough to take a punch.

Some great tips especially the highlight of 'just let it all flight' when it comes to the point of being physically attacked don't ever hold back in your defense.

I've never daydreamt about a pen before, but here I am...

As a safety conscious female marital arts practitioner, I recognize that the world is not always a safe place for women, but many women feel overwhelmed by the idea of learning to defend themselves against an assailant that is almost sure to be bigger and stronger. I really appreciate that this video had practical, actionable self defense tactics that require no marital arts training.

Great video about an often overlooked tool that can be carried by anyone!

Excellent Video. Have already sent it to my wife and two daughters. I have already provided each of them with a key chain light. Now will upgrade to something larger and much brighter. I have not thought much about tactical pens but now seeing this need to get them for my girls. The knife will be a harder sell to them I believe but as I have EDC knife and this video does good job showing when and how to use it, perhaps.. Thanks to CRKT and James Williams for doing this video.

Very impressed with the whole James Williams line.

I haven't yet purchased any of James Williams products, however, I was wondering how they're tested? Also I'd like to say I do like the design of the knife blades. The curve seems like it gives it a sharp tip and the length and width makes it very durably and not wobble like cheaper knives.

I like that the pen is a bit stealthier than standing there with a knife in your hand, and a bit more punch than a key strike.
@SystemOfStrategy9 жыл бұрын
Rick Munday Use the pen if you can. The knife needs to be used only if you are in mortal danger. Juries have an aversion to knives. Remember however the knife can cut people out of seat belts, I have done this, to get people out of a car after an accident and other uses besides.

Hi, I would have liked to have seen how this woman deployed the torch and pen? because she wouldn't walk around with them already in her hands. cool video and products shown.

Another great CRKT product. This Tactical Pen would be a great addition to anyones EDC collection. Also congrats to James Williams for another stellar creation.

This is an excellent commentary. Having a mindset of awareness and playing lots of "what if" will make sure that your ability to get to the right tool, when needed, will become reflexive!

A few weeks ago, I lost my CRKT on a job site. The same one i've carried everyday, and I do mean everyday, for roughly 7 years now. I was so bummed, I felt like a friend died. A few days later, I bought another new CRKT. It finally came. This time I bought the M16 SFG. Oooooh buddy, that thing is slick. 3 days after getting that knife. My old one turned up in the back of the work truck. Turns out my friend didnt die, just called in sick for a while. Now I carry both. True story. Never owned a knife that I could beat the hell out of, daily, and stay together so well.

***** We love this story. Thanks for sharing! There's nothing like a knife that you've carried for years. We've shed our fair share of "lost knife" tears around here.

Well, thank you for the response! I knew you could relate. Having a solid knife is just as essential as having a reliable car. You can rely on it to help you get the job done and it can save your life under the right circumstances. You've got a life long customer in me, regardless of giveaways, promos, and discounts.Because I KNOW what I'm getting.

I love that crkt does these sweepstakes. I also love James Williams designs, I own the Hissatsu, Hissatsu trainer, Sakimori, Hisshou, and Heiho and after 2 years of use on the heiho still in perfect condition. I would love if he designed a tanto-gata shuriken based throwing knife.
