I'd much rather post actual builds. but everyone asked for a better view of this one. youtube doesn't allow "how-to" videos for guns. showing the parts doesn't tell you how to make it any more than describing how it work. anyway, hope it helps.

Growing up with a salvage yard, as a family business and being into medieval siege weapons. As a pre-teen/young teenager. I took it upon myself to design and build a very capable and formidable balista. It was made from a 1 ton truck spring leaf, a piece of railroad rail, 1/4" wire rope, a few other pieces and used a cut down and sharpened to a wicked point. Axle out of a Dana rear axle. As a bolt. My grandfather, cut it up with a torch while, I was at school. Told me, not to think of making another one. When, I got home. Lol....

We used to cut tree branches with a good curve and flex, and widdle them down, knotch out the ends, then string it with industrial rubber bands linked together. Next we'd gather quail and other bird feathers, bamboo reeds, and fashion some pretty beautiful arrows. Final step was wedgeing small screws and/or nails in the tip of the bamboo reed. I kid you not, we used to shoot cyotes, ducks, snakes, birds, squirls, and all type of shit around the hills of our homes. This was in SoCal. As kids, we joked that if someone ever tried to kidnap us, we'd get to see how well our arrows worked on humans.

Great way to piss off someone. I have a .32 S&W brass sitting right in front of me. You're talking about 70 ft-lbs (for the 'long', ROTFL) and there are medium bore repeating airguns these days which are about 3x as powerful. regular .32 S&W can be put to shame by an inexpensive .22 PCP airgun or the slowest of modern .22LR rounds. I saw an episode of Cops back in the early '90s where a guy had been shot with a .25 auto and I've bled more from a paper cut. That's the kind of stopping power you're talking about. Gadgets like these are mostly a placebo for people like OP who think this is actually going to be a self defense tool. I'd rather carry an 1851 Colt with a 3" barrel. Would be more useful.
@Pootycat8359
@Pootycat8359 2 ай бұрын
@@Lurch-Bot The published energy for the ,32 S&W Long is 124 ft*lbs, but that's from a "test gun," so who knows what it would be out of a puny stinger barrel. But the usual way of employing a stinger is to shove it up against a vital area. In that case, almost anything will do the job. Incidentally, in the old days, many small police departments issued .32s to their officers, instead of .38s, because the ammo was cheaper. It's certainly no real stopper, but I'd rather have one instead of a .22 LR or .25 ACP. I think the .22 WRM is better than any of those.

You really wouldn't want to smoke out of something that has a bunch of lead and gunpowder residue in it. smoking is harmful enough as it is. But because the general consensus is that this looks like a pipe, OP actually DID make an AOW. ATF could use this comment section at OP's trial to secure a conviction. Smoking pipe gun, pen gun, cane gun, all legally considered an AOW, regardless of whether the barrel is rifled. This is what happens when you can do a bit of machining and think that you must automatically know how the law works. People literally have to go to school for 3 years to learn how to interpret the law correctly. I don't even understand why you'd make this a cartridge gun. You get one shot and you won't get a chance to reload and take another. If it were BP, there would be zero legal issues. It is obviously too large a bore to be .22 and anything bigger, with a smokeless powder load, doesn't belong in a brass gun. In fact, if it were .22, you would want to use the weakest target load on the market. modern .22LR can give up to 200ft-lbs energy which is the same as a .38 Spl. And it will have to produce higher pressures in the process.

If you can't look at it and see what it is.. it's brass pipe and fittings. Obviously it's a 22 gauge bullet. Look how much brass is on each side(how thick the walls are) measure a 22 bullet guesstimate judging by its size . I would say take the width of three 22 bullets and that would be the thickness I f the fittings. A 22 is roughly 5.6 -5.7mm. Multply by 3. Look at the video , try and reference his hand size by something on the desk.

A 22 gauge bullet would be around 0.6 inches diameter. You mean .22 caliber, which would be around 230 gauge. The bigger the gauge number, the smaller the bullet and it isn't a linear scale either. You can say 0.22 caliber, 0.22 bore but not 0.22 gauge.

OP really messed up. You can't make a cartridge gun in the US that looks like a smoking pipe unless you pay a tax and register it as an AOW. It is obvious most people think it looks like a pipe. I've been into shooting sports for most of my life and even I wouldn't immediately think this was a gun. It would take holding it in my hand and taking it apart to realize what it really is and I'm certified to work on comercial aircraft and space rockets. Federal law is clear about this being an AOW.

Very nice build man. In Canada that were allowed smooth bores provided the person had the restricted license they could build one of these and make a smooth bore. Although that makes it less accurate too. Unless you're talking rat shot then it's a little bit more accurate. So actually a legal Canadian version of this could have a rifled barrel and then easily swap it out to a smoothbore barrel depending if you're firing rat shot or not.

Smooth bore would still place under NFA regulation. The ATF says that in order for a pistol to be legal and unregulated(meaning that it won't need to be registered & taxed as an 'any other weapon under the NFA rules), the pistol must have these 3 characteristics: 1. A grip extending at a downward angle from the bore. 2. The barrel must be rifled 'sufficiently to impart a spin on the projectile. 3. The weapon must be designed, built and intended to be fired with one hand.

Caliber is irrelevant. If the barrel is under 18.5" or the gun is less than 26" overall length, is smoothbore and fires a cartridge, it is an AOW. If you make a gun and feature it on YT, the majority are saying 'looks like a pipe' and takes a cartridge, it is an AOW. The ATF will not even have to work hard to prove that most people wouldn't recognize it as a gun because it is all right here in the comments. Doesn't matter if it is rifled or not.

@@jimafcarbon4433 You really need to understand that, while you can read the law, you clearly have zero concept of how it is actually interpreted in practice. No rifling does not classify it as a shotgun. Smooth bore pistols such as the Tower Flintlock have been in existence long before the ATF decided they can make up rules as they feel. @kingfuqurmahmen6792 all depends on the situation. With training, full auto can be very effective. Shoot 1k or more a few times a year and you'll be surprised how well you can do with it. But most in the military are not sufficiently trained. Many froze up and emptied magazines with full auto not hitting anything and not prepared to reload. Rather than training (which is not easy) they just made the 3 round burst. Which mostly failed. Most today went back to full auto but train to use semi. Poor compromise, but when they're training masses, they have to train to the lowest common denominator. But for civilians, train, train and train some more. Unless you don't have a life otherwise, you will not train too much. Be humble. I know I don't have the best equipment and I'm not trained as I'd like to be. But I also have a career, family, hobbies and responsibilities. So keep it all in perspective. Most street kids withbswitches are just intimidating with noise and not hitting anything.

@kingfuqurmahmen6792 I chose to order the switch & didn't have any plans with it whatsoever. Someone just told me about it (they got one without any trouble at all) I actually ordered 2. I recieved one but never got the 2nd one. That's when I found out it was a no-no. But when the 2020 riots & shit went down I told my lawyer, "this is why I ordered it- for times like this.. people are rioting & looting with the police not able to do much at all. What if a mob came to my house with my wife & children here? I think that would be quite effective".. I'm just glad the judge saw that I wasn't up to no good & gave me only probation. (He was appointed by Reagan!!) Not to mention I used to be up to no good & already had 4 felonies under my belt so I wasn't supposed to have any type of firearms. I got lucky.

@@warrenthomas1253 22 magnum is a good round, and a reasonable price. I was shown a 22 walking stick by a gunsmith in Panama, it had a safety clip, which when released, it fired by prodding someone, and it had a long barrel, so had good velocity. He also showed me a flare launcher like I had as a kid, but with a 1 1/2 inch barrel, the nice thing was it had a clip and looked like a pen, so it could be in your shirt pocket.

Hmmmm…. “Kids like to play with home made guns” indeed we do. Now the real question is how. if you use blanks for a ram hammer which a teen could perches no questions asked at a hardware store then load a metal bb or something in front of the blank that is the same size in diameter as the barrel. Extend the barrel by 2-3 inches and add a small push rod to help load the bb and there you go I think it is even more legal because you are not using real ammo and a teen can make it.

@@jimafcarbon4433 Brass isn't suitable for modern cartridge guns. But I can't imagine you've fired it more than a dozen times. A modern .22 LR high velocity is as energetic as .38 SPl and you definitely made an AOW because you can't tell it is a gun unless you take it apart. Might as well be a cane gun or a pen pistol, both of which are AOWs if they take a cartridge. Should have made it BP. GL with the ATF.

@Lurch-Bot brass guns have been built commercially for 150 years. Modern high pressure cartridges like 357 and 44mag and even full powered 45-70, none of those trap-door only loads. As for this, the liner itself can contain the pressure, the brass just give you something to hold. At this point, she's seen north of 500 rounds easily.

lol atf said pistols have to have rifeling but that the rifling doesnt have to do anything. this lead to people starting to put the rifiling on the outside of barrels which was deemed acceptable. i wonder if the threads of the components on the barrel count as refiling as well lol
@jimafcarbon4433
@jimafcarbon4433 7 ай бұрын
No, the regs state the rifling has to be sufficient to impart spin on the projectile. Excerpt from @nathanielhubbard9863 The ATF says that in order for a pistol to be legal and unregulated(meaning that it won't need to be registered & taxed as an 'any other weapon under the NFA rules), the pistol must have these 3 characteristics: 1. A grip extending at a downward angle from the bore. 2. The barrel must be rifled 'sufficiently to impart a spin on the projectile. 3. The weapon must be designed, built and intended to be fired with one hand.
@vevenaneathna
@vevenaneathna 7 ай бұрын
@@jimafcarbon4433 well this is a change. in 2012-2013, I distinctly remember reading atf opinion letters that said that the rifling just had to be present in some way, and did not need to actually function in order to meet the def. of pistol. This was probably an old interpretation for those black powder muzzle loader pistol kits in which people would sand off the rifiling or use undersized shot since it would balistically behave better. back before the thingyverse ban and during the og wikiweapon go fund me, i remember all of the work in progress models had their rifeling on the outside of the barrel. the nfa is one thing, but the ATF makes it so difficult to interpret given the actual letter of the law is scattered across hundreds-thousands of opinion letters which tend to go back and forth on determinations and definitions depending on who is in charge of the atf, which seems to change with every potus election... bump stalks and braces are a better example. im hoping the cases at the SCOTUS right now will force the atf to stick to one definition that is clearly described in the NFA. a good list of things that need to be set in stone which keep changing are: barrel limit of 16" (changed from 18" after the CMP surplused 250,000 m1 carbine SBR's on accident), definition of permanently attached muzzle device, bump/hellfire triggers and "wake-o" incident, Akins Accelerator decision which lead to bump stalk acceptance by removal of its function spring="device", ruling of cosmetically scary shotguns = rocket launchers = "destructive device" like what happened with the streetsweeper, removal of legit sporting purpose exemption of 5 cents/round ukranian surplus 7n6 due to the existence of an ak74 pistol, and ruling that open bolt semiautos made after 1982 were machine guns. none of this is in the nfa, and neither is the definition of riffling. no doubt it is a convent interpretation to try and ban additively manufactured ghost gats.
