The fact that items get lost and possibly found in your shop is heartening to me as this literally happens multiple times a day in my shop and has for over 40 years. At least I know I am not alone in this malady. Also want to say that I truly enjoy watching your videos and that even with the years I have spent as a silver and goldsmith I still pickup pointers from you.

I got the Top Jawz yesterday and I’m eager to put them to use. Great video, Jim. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that misplaces things. 😃

I like that you can switch out your vise for your soldering station. Is that your design? If not where can I order it? Great tutorial. Thanks.

Jim, HI! I have your tools! YEAH! Question about your soldering station. What do you use for ventilation?
@JimBrandvik

Hi Carol! At the studio where this video was filmed, I had a ceiling fan directly over my bench and a large window to my left. We have since moved to AZ and are in the process of building a new shop. I will probably have an extraction fan here.

I like this video, some better tips here than my current teacher, but how did you reshape the bezel to the stone shape before soldering to the base? This is where I have trouble. So far my bezels are so imperfect...
@JimBrandvik
@JimBrandvik 6 жыл бұрын
Hi khaliaoo! Good question! If the bezel is the proper size, it is a fairly simple matter to "eyeball" the shape of the stone. (at least get it pretty close). Then after that's done, I gently press the bezel over the stone so that the stone itself acts as a forming tool to perfectly shape the bezel. This may require an annealing of the bezel first (before the final fit is achieved). If the stone is a bit too big for the bezel, you can always sand down the outer wall of the stone just a bit using some 220 grit sandpaper backed up on a sanding block if you don't own lapidary equipment. I will add to my list of videos to do to make a more detailed video of how I do this. Thanks for watching!

Hello. Thanks for the video. Is there a site other than Etsy from which I can buy the bezel system? I am having a hard time logging in to Etsy after changing my phone device. And what is the difference between the $79 bezel kit and the $109 kit? I have been unable to send that question to you via Etsy. Thanks again.

Hi Deborah, You can also purchase my tools here. horseshoeengraver.com/collections/tools The $79 set allows you to make 2mm and 3mm castellations. The deluxe kits gives you the ability to make 2mm, 3mm, 4mm and 5mm castellations. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for such a prompt response. I went ahead and ordered the "Delux". ABy the way... Are there any "inexpensive" or DYI jewelry presses ? I'd love to get and use your Conches systems, but can't sink thousands into a press. How many PSI's are needed to use your system? Again, thanks! Excited about the Bezel Kit! Glad you responded so quickly while I was experiencing a "burning desire" for castellated bezels!

You used 18g. Can this work for 24g copper?
@JimBrandvik
@JimBrandvik 5 жыл бұрын
Catherine Franz The problem with using such thin material is that you can’t saw it easily with a #3 saw blade as the blade will hang up in it. You could use as thin as 20 gauge but I don’t think 24 gauge would be much fun.
