1:15 We need to show Jim some real live capybaras, stat. 25:18 I think you're underrating Ojer Kaslem somewhat for constructed. While it doesn't have an ETB, you can't really Go for the Throat it usefully, it has some evasion when attacking in the form of trample, you're happy to trade it with most things in combat, and if it hits you get to find another creature and dump it directly into play which can get out of control very quickly. 27:02 Poison Dart Frog would be my pick for best green common. Clearly the common you want more than any other if you're trying to play a slow ramp deck in limited. 31:30 My intuition is that a Standard Caves deck is going to be awful. But I'm welcome to be proven wrong. 34:46 "Probably fine in limited" seems like an understatement to me. I think Skullspore Nexus will be strong in limited. You can alpha strike, use the activated ability to pump something after blocks to make the combat favorable, and whatever you lose in combat just gets recycled into a fungus token. And conversely, it's very hard to attack into a player with Skullspore Nexus or use kill spells on their creatures for the same reasons.

And coatis! 4:45
@BombaJead Жыл бұрын
In constructed Ojer Kaslem might just be too slow, it likely dies without ever attacking and you basically payed 5 mana to ramp 1 (if they kill it instead of exiling it) and I think you can easily flip it back only if you were already ahead on board.

Mono-Green or Gruul dinos seems like it might be a thing in Standard now. Topiary Stomper is already a dino, the rampant growth that grabs only a forest is fine in 1-2-color decks, and there are some pushed dino synergies in this set. I hope it is, because this type of ramp deck is my jam. It's still probably worse than the Atraxa domain ramp decks though, but at least Wizards is trying. *edit* Spelunking plays really well with triomes, too. Could be similar to Stompers 5 and 6 for the domain decks, even without gaining life. And you draw a card.

Hammerskull Is actually kinda gas in Dino decks, probably not in regular Stompy decks. You can play It on turn 2 with the manadork, you can pump the Red 2 mana dino to a 6/2 Trample, After It you can play the Gruul 2 mana dino to have It fight and It will win most fights and it's pretty good with Lukka's -4. Also i dont know how you missed It, but Spelunking Is AMAZING in Gates, like so good It could make the deck into an actual contender as opposed to worse MonoG.

Best in Show: Pugnacious Hammerskull - Obviously best and most useful in a tribal deck and predicated on having enough dinos on the curve below it....which I think is doable with there being a couple 2 drop options (though 1 is legendary) unless you plan to precombat another 3 or 4 drop on your turn 4....but it's just kind of a beating. Sleeper: Intrepid Paleontologist - So I happen to think that the Dinosaur deck is real. Most peoples response to creature decks being a thing is "sunfall is in the meta". The card reads like you being able to make use of stuff in your graveyard because you get to exile it....but you can also use this card as an "answer" to sunfall and to get those creatures back yet again. I think the Dino deck will already be strong against non Sunfall decks....and this card could help get more mileage out of your creatures against sunfall variants. (looks like this is wrong because I can't read the card. leaving to embrace my shame) Trap: Skullspore Nexus - Henge at home... Bombin Common: Poison Dartfrog - one of the options for fixing/ramp....has a keyword ability and the ability to get deathtouch. Potentially relevant early and late.

The frog can gain Deathtouch for one mana after summoning sickness for blocks right? Thats nice
@dcnole Жыл бұрын
Exactly. IMO it's the best green common by some margin. Ramps and fixes early, sits back on defense and can kill most attackers for (effectively) 1 mana. It even has reach, weirdly, to deal with troublesome fliers.

While I do think Pugnacious Hammerskull is probably overrated, I think it's not being given enough credit. I think Belligerent Yearling on 2 into Pugnacious Hammerskull on 3 is gonna kill alot of people really fast if Dinos can get there.
