I really like this guy. His chuckle when he accidentally moved the arm got me.

Something I think I got from a Valve tutorial early on: When you have bookmarks in the motion editor delineating your still shots, you can press [ or ] to select the time between the closest bookmarks to the left / right.When I do this, I tend to do slightly better posing - I remember hand-drawn animation storyboards tend to include pose structure, faces, etc., and I really like doing that stuff, so I tend to do more than Lins did. (Nothing "correct" about doing it that way - but I do kind of celebrate when I have all blocking for a video completed, and just want to animate the space between)

Im glad i found your videos man i was actually thinking about drawing the storyboard on paper but this seems more usefull and take less effort...

Jimer, keep the Tip of the Day name, even if you're doing it month;y/weekly, it's still a good solid name. Also keep up the good work.

Jimer Lins, please teach people how to do blocking in the Graph Editor. Professionally (AKA Every other animation program) uses Keyframes. The Motion Editor is solely Valve's creation and almost every content creator (all the way up to McVinnie who admitted he hates the Motion Editor) hardly ever touch it due to the difficulty of modifying existing frames. People look up to you, and I don't want you setting them on a path that already has a dead end due to being stuck on SFM.
@TomEyeTheSFMguy5 жыл бұрын
Blocking is possible in motion editor, too. People just prefer doing it the more professional way.

You can do storyboarding with the stepped keys easier than the motion editor (at least in my opinion). You could have mentioned that in the video. Just leaving this here for people to find a different way to approach storyboarding.

After blocking like that, how do you go from the motion editor to the graph editor ? Each time I tried, it just mess up my motion.

Oh this is wonderful! I've been hoping for something like this for a long time now. But silly question, as a follow-up on that: Are there certain tricks on how to further improve the timing of these 'storyboarded poses' during the following refining process?
@SzotyMAG9 жыл бұрын
+Mere Lyap You can literally try it on yourself. Crouch down multiple times in your room and see how long it takes, and with that in mind, you can time your animations precisely
@merelyap22309 жыл бұрын
+SzotyMAG I tried that out just now, and holy molly! That does indeed make it a lot easier for most shots! (Though I do feel a bit dumb, for not having thought of that myself...) But in any case, thanks man! At least for me that was great advice!

Whenever I try this the animation ends up resetting when I add more movements, i'm adding bookmarks and that doesn't make a difference either. Everything just ends up resetting when I move time. I need to be able to do this for a project I'm starting but it just won't work

Hey thanks for making this video! I know I’m like 4 years late on this comment for this video, but I’m just now starting to learn how to use SFM and the general basics for everything. Can you do a video on how the motion editor connects with the graph editor if you haven’t done so already?Thanks and great job on the video!
