I got a '57 reissue Strat as a beginner - bought it 2nd hand. I love it. Even though I'm still not any good - the tone really encourages me to play. When I was just playing acoustic - I bought some really crappy guitars and never was inspired to play, but the Strat it's all I want to do! Look at a Strat!!!

I used a Divided by 13 BTR23 with a little bit of gain on it with a Divided by 13 Lift pedal into a Strymon El Capistan. You can also use what ever amp with a good overdrive pedal of some kind through any kind of delay with a medium level and a couple of repeats. Use your guitars neck pickup. Hope that helps.

The progression is Dminor C Bb C Dm C Bb C Dm, but he bars the Amajor shape bar chord in the F position with his first finger he likes to slide into the G and D below it and plays the pentatonic with his free fingers putting the D in the bass as the Fmajorchord shares the same notes as the Dm7. That's for the Dm. For the C and Bb he plays the bottom of the E barchord in those positions with his thumb on the root and his pinky free to play the pentatonic. Also this is in D minor but over the Bb you can play Fminor pentatonic its a substitution. Enjoyable video to watch, I think I will learn this song, thanks
@KyleCarrington10 жыл бұрын
Actually it starts in C#m, but Hendrix did it tuned to Eb, and to play along with the album you have to back up, about a 1/4 step.
@tollerest10 жыл бұрын
true my bad i was replying to someone that asked fretwise not notation, but i missed the reply button. i only been playing 3years but find it fascinating, i noticed his tuning i've played over a couple of songs and noticed i've had to tune A430.
@KyleCarrington10 жыл бұрын
Toller Brown yeah he's kind of all over the map. lately it seems at live jams a lot of people play this in Cminor, if tuned 440... it sounds closer, (given that he's like you say, flat...) and its easier to sing it

Thanks for all the videos.

hay brett, what gear are you usng for the distortion? i struggle to get a light crunchy sound and an acceptable soloing tone at the same time.
@napalmhardcore10 жыл бұрын
I love your lessons, but I noticed you say to bend the string three times on the intro solo, yet you appear to bend it four times. Hendrix also bends it four times. Just a minor thing I thought worth mentioning (in case someone reads this and it helps them). The tone on your amp sounds awesome for this song by the way :)
@BrettPapa13 жыл бұрын
@Liquoristiqal I am going to do that video soon. Also the rest of the solos as well.
@turockandar12 жыл бұрын
Well there are two schools of thought; the first is to get a cheap all rounder guitar and then get a better one if you continue to progress or get a better one to get more pleasure. You can get a Squire imitation Stratocaster cheap or an Epiphone imitation Les Paul also cheap. First work out what type of guitar is your favorite sound; is it more Fender or Les Paul? Or may be a more modern sounding shredding instrument like an Ybanez. Go on your tube sites and listen to demos and of course..
@bellahoj7919 жыл бұрын

This is a damn good lesson, you have a strat laying on the chair why not use it for this?
@jessesawyer437010 жыл бұрын
Probably didn't wanna go through the trouble of tuning a half step down on a strat. Kinda annoying if use your tremolo system any
@JymeBale10 жыл бұрын
I understand that for sure, once I tuned down I didn't want to go back but then so many of the famous bands tune to E flat as most of the singers sing a bit flat, it is real hard to sing in 440, it is far easier to sing down.
@jessesawyer437010 жыл бұрын
Yeah true that. Plus strats sound awesome in e flat. Something about strats in e flat give off really great times
