Absolutely. Lack of real affordable health care even for people who have decent jobs and "good benefits" in America is outrageous. Literally almost every American and their family is just 1 major illness away from financial ruin. Healthcare reform should be at the top of the political agenda, firearm reform should be up there too, but NOTHING AT ALL is being done about either. Insulin costs hundreds of dollars for each monthly supply now in America, literally diabetics across the nation are having to chose vital medicine or food/rent/gas and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT!

It is NOT a political issue anywhere else but the U.S. It is a public safety issue. Before the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania, from Australia's revolving doors rotating knives occasionally and randomly burst out and cut people into pieces and when the (literally) bleeding heart left wanted them outlawed, the Conservatives never made it a "political issue".

mshesh16 No he’s making a valid point, why there are no mass shootings with homemade guns in countries with gun control? Could it be that machining a gun is something that is beyond the reach of the insane? Or the common thug? Here in Canada there was a case where it happened and the guy got caught because he did it with borrowed equipment. Turns out having the right tools is harder than getting a gun on the black market...

We could remove the 2nd Amendment, at least in theory, but we would still have the right. We don't have the right because of the 2nd Amendment. We have the 2nd Amendment because we have the right, and this is true of all the rights recognized in the Bill of Rights. The only difference if we removed the 2nd Amendment would be that government could then legally infringe the right to keep and bear arms, but a government that can legally infringe rights is not a legitimate government. The Bill of Rights is a limit on government power.

But he still misses the main issue... Americans want to protect their way of life forever... that's a long time in case you didn't notice. Americans want to be prepared to defend their rights to the death if the need arises. That's really what the second amendment is for... he's obviously being a comedian here, but he's also serious. Reform in the US is absolutely necessary but we have to come up with lasting solutions so that in 300 years if some douche dictator takes over the American political system, the people will have some response.

My favorite era is the Cold War and both East and west conceived excellent firearms many of which today are collectors items. Firearms are a living piece of history and studying the way they were engineered and the tasks they were built to accomplish can really reveal the mindset and diference in tactics and doctrine of both sides. OP may not speak for all of Australia, but I believe he speaks for the overwhelming majority. The US's unhealthy and reckless obsession with firearms is something most other countries simply do not understand. Japan has a very high percentage of firearm owners. But the types of guns available to them are very restricted, and they have to pass strict safety training etc. to obtain their licence. They have a lot of guns, and practically no gun crime - because the citizens believe in gun control and gun safety and are responsible.

Mike Tran Bobby Boucher The issue with guys such as your, and Jim Jefferies', arguments is you flatly, and ignorantly assume that people enter into civil armed conflicts, either with their government or an ideological opposition, because they think they can "win", without considering many do so because they'd rather die than continue living under what they perceive as state oppression or tyranny. Question: have you ever, in your entire life, put your life on the line for anything/anyone? I'm not trying to give you some trip here, I'm just genuinely wondering.

@@OAKofLIBERTY Dude, I'm not scared at all living in the US. I simply think it's dumb and sad and down right pathological to hang on to riffles and to guns without universal background check let alone not understanding that the Constitution was written at a different time with a different situation. And NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO MOVE TO THE US. It's a myth now. As a matter of fact, many American friends have moved or will move to Mexico or Canada. And most of my Mexican and European friends would never move to the US. The people that want to move to the US often come from a place where they have it worse. I didn't say it's "so bad". But I do think a lot of things suck and could be changed. Therefore it's great when someone talks about them.
@OAKofLIBERTY

@@AlwaysHereAndNow there's about 30,000,000 Mexicans who would disagree with your Mexican friends and more people are trying to get here than aren't because we've allowed our politicians to give away this country and our birthright away out from under us so that the whole system is designed to lure people in, be it legally or otherwise at the expense of those already citizens here. As for universal background checks? We have a background check system that works just fine. The problem is that states aren't required to report to it so not all do. I have no idea why that is but fix that one issue and it works just fine. You and your Mexican friends don't want to live here? Lol, cool. We are in agreement then. I'm sure your Mexican friends will be much safer and happier down in 3rd world cartel land than if they came here to 1st world freedom land where kidnappings and beheadings are somewhat of a rarity. Good luck with all that and please know wherever all of you land that we kept our guns and are safe as hell up here and statistically are only getting safer like we have been almost every single year for the last quarter century. @@AlwaysHereAndNow Do you know what made this land so great and appealing to live here historically? OUR CONSTITUTION which places limits on gov't intrusion into our lives. It is almost unique in the world in that it grants us nothing because it assumes we are born with natural rights endowed to us at birth and it merely affirms those rights. It does keep a nice leash on gov't though. It isn't perfect but it's better than most and has served the citizens of this nation pretty well since it's creation. No, we'll leave that intact for the most part. If it isn't broken then it isn't in need of repair. True story.
@AlwaysHereAndNow
@AlwaysHereAndNow 5 жыл бұрын
@@OAKofLIBERTY I'll answer both of your replies at once knowing that it is not likely that either of us will change our minds over KZbin comments. And I'll do my best to keep the snarky smart-assy tone you used in yours out of mine. Have you traveled to Mexico? I bet not to say such thing. I have gone there many times (among many other countries), have a ton of friends there and I have felt safe. I don't stay in resorts but in Airbnbs and rent from locals. I know a lot of Canadian, European, American expats who love it there hence why they moved permanently. As much as you have dangerous areas, you have very safe and beautiful areas as well where I promise you no one beheads anybody. To get it straight, I never said I didn't want to live in the US although sometimes I question it. I have been living in the US for 5 years, spent 3 years in Canada before and I'm originally from France where there are issues but mass murders and gun violence aren't one. It's pretty delusional to say your Constitution is placing "limits on intrusion of the government into your lives". What century do you live in? You know nothing about mass surveillance in your country? Did the Snowden revelations teach you anything about your own government? The american government will be all up in your biz the second it decides to -unless you help pass laws that actively limit that- and your guns won't help a bit. Plus like Jim says, do you really see yourself holding up against the american military with your hand guns? You can't pride yourself of having the strongest military in the world AND being able to keep it under your control with guns. Gotta pick. I don't know all the Constitutions out there, but the "preamble of the (French) constitution recalls the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen from 1789 and establishes France as a secular and democratic country, deriving its sovereignty from the people." Here some articles from that Declaration of rights IN the current constitution:: Article I - Men are born and remain free and equal in rights. Social distinctions can be founded only on the common good. Article II - The goal of any political association is the conservation of the natural and imprescriptible rights of man. These rights are liberty, property, safety and resistance against oppression. (..) Article IV - Liberty consists of doing anything which does not harm others: thus, the exercise of the natural rights of each man has only those borders which assure other members of the society the fruition of these same rights. These borders can be determined only by the law. (...) Article VI - The law is the expression of the general will. All the citizens have the right of contributing personally or through their representatives to its formation. It must be the same for all, either that it protects, or that it punishes. All the citizens, being equal in its eyes, are equally admissible to all public dignities, places, and employments, according to their capacity and without distinction other than that of their virtues and of their talents. (...) Article XI - The free communication of thoughts and of opinions is one of the most precious rights of man: any citizen thus may speak, write, print freely, except to respond to the abuse of this liberty, in the cases determined by the law. Article XII - The guarantee of the rights of man and of the citizen necessitates a public force: this force is thus instituted for the advantage of all and not for the particular utility of those in whom it is trusted. (...) Article XVII - Property being an inviolable and sacred right, no one can be deprived of private usage, if it is not when the public necessity, legally noted, evidently requires it, and under the condition of a just and prior indemnity. And in the last Constitution it further includes "Social welfare, which means that everybody must be able to access free public services and be helped when needed". Pretty sweet, lots of the same rights granted to us at birth and no need to arm the fuck out of every citizen (for profit) in order for those basic freedom rights to be covered. I don't know other constitutions but I bet the other ones in Europe say the same basic things. The US has the hightes rates of incarceration per capita - for the land of freedom, it's ironic isn't it?, the highest rate of mass murders in a so called 1st world country. It's ridiculous at this point. And little health care help for people with mental issues - cause health care isn't in your Consitution is it? It's a great combo for disaster. So disasters happen. Until the majority will realize that the damage done is greater than the perceived safety. I feel that you portray the 10% that Jim talks about in this routine. You must have watched it since you're commenting here. I have nothing else to add, just watch it again if you want my opinion which I don't think you do.
