Back when I was still driving, most companies bought Kenworth, Peterbilt, Western Star, and Mack. Companies and Owner Operators bought trucks expecting to get reliably too put a million miles plus on them. Driver comfort wasn't much of a consideration then. But it was great driving trucks that you knew would always make the trip. And were easy to repair along the road if you did have a problem. I don't understand this fleet mentality of selling of their trucks at four hundred thousand miles. Trucks aren't fully broken in until after a hundred thousand miles. You aren't getting your full value of your trucks by operating that that way, you're just throwing money out the window. I drove a 1962 GMC cabover pulling wiggle wagons up and down the west coast. It was a love, hate relationship. Listening to that old Detroit screaming day and night. But it never let me down. It was comfortable, but still fun to drive. It was a true workhouse. We had no cell phones, no computers, you dealt with everything yourself on the road. I'm not sure that I would trust new trucks to do the same. I appreciate the way you think, and you approach to trucking

@@flintcreektransport That would actually be the cheapest way to go, you can get a wore out pre emission/pre e-log w9 or 379 Pete for around 20-30 grande or even cheaper if you can find one that's been parked for a while. Just for your info i got into a 5700xe 2019 with a btrain 63500 kg from a t800 2011 isx deleted and powerwise it is as strong as the cummins deleted and that truck had a lot of power already. For full ecomony for a round trip of roughly 1250km loading in glenevis Alberta to a little farther than dawson creek British columbia. Thats a 14-15 hour round trip it took roughly 620 liter of fuel per day and about 1/4 tank of def per day. Def tank is about 60-70 liter. And that run was mostly highway with a lot of hill sometime going up with the 4way flasher on 30km/h with my foot to the floor to give you an idea. About reliability my brother drive a 4900ex with a dd15 and they change them at about 750-800 000 km and had no major issue with emmission. As far as i know the detroit have better emmission system than most of the other brand. Maxxforce have terrible emmission system for sure. But emmission are getting better as well. The tiers 5 are coming and they will have no egr and only def so they might take a little def fluid but but also be better on engine because they have no egr. You can research the new c13b cat on youtube. It is a generator engine but they talk about in the video. Also they are coming up with assymetric twin scroll turbo who gonna replace the vgt turbo and be much more reliable. You can research that on Adept Ape channel. He explain that.

My money is on the gliders and old trucks. Run them until you're told to scrap them. After my experiences with emissions trucks and lost production, lost loads, lost revenue and the repair bills/ tow bills, I'd never let an old truck go. Seeing the prices for the non emissions and gliders rising in the past few months, I'd say buy what you can as soon as you see them, once they're gone, they're really gone. Oil and gas, heavy haul and logging in Canada is hard on trucks and for the cost of downtime, we could have rebuilt an old truck a few times over. Everyone I know who runs old iron and keeps it maintained is profitable. Most guys who run emissions trucks are barely above water and many threw in the towel or went broke trying to stay open.

Im more then happy with Peterbilt, 1,02 mil KM and not a single coolant leak, parts costs less, ride quality way better, no issues with capping tires or anything like that. Only thing i miss from W900 is how smooth door was locking, seen some old kenworths at junkyard and door was still closing with soft CLICK.

What a great dilemma to have! After 40 years of pounding the pavement in Kenworths, Pete's and Frieghtshakers, I finally have a cushy gig. Strictly highway regional, paid by the hour, light loads one way and empty back. Only one problem, the owner hates Peterbilts and has an all Volvo fleet! Now God had to humble me I guess, and the I-Shift really isn't that bad, but it's a rough riding thing made of tupperware, and it's butt ugly. The owner's boys are all largecar fans but I guess we have to wait until dad retires or goes to Heaven before we can go there, lol.... I tend to agree with the ones here saying find an older Paccar product and rebuild. You'll have happy drivers, no emissions BS, and trucks that can be repaired easily. Zipties, duct-tape and tarp straps are the drivers best friends. Steering wheel holders need not apply...

Doesn't matter what you think about emission engines. EPA will be putting those that delete emission systems out of business. Look at the fines they have levied on some of the diesel programming outlets. Private haulers are next. Too easy to tell when emissions are deleted. All you have to do is watch the exhaust outlet or look into it for black soot. It will become part of a roadside inspection....and I am betting sooner than later.
@JCA-Z3 жыл бұрын
You are correct. I've been going back and forth with some dude about emission engines and how great their small fleet runs now that they've deleted them where as i attempted to warn him about getting caught at the scales or in a inspection by the d.o.t. or a.q.m.d. that they would levy heavy fines and make them restore all the smog equipment. He laughed at me saying in his state they don't enforce it but i told hom what a highway patrol officer once told me, he said emissions are federal and they supersede state laws so if your vehicle was manufactured with it, it better be left alone.

Hey Justin we lease our trucks out of a place in Indiana, patriot truck leasing / ruble truck sales. fantastic to work with, can get any brand you want. We’ve had KW and Pete brand new on 2-4 year leases then send them back. Over the life of our emission trucks tho we haven’t had really any emission problems out of the new X15 it’s a great motor. We have had more problems with wiring and the new hydraulic clutches in the 880 pulling our walkers in the landfill then anything emissions related. We pull walkers just like you do, but we’re trash haulers. The leasing is a bit more per month, but when a truck starts acting up we send it back. It keeps the drivers in new trucks and good iron rolling down the road with warranty. I have a 565 in my w990 getting about 5 mpg and medium def tank, I think it’s the 25 gal one, last 1 week running 9 - 11 hours a day.

@@flintcreektransport we work with Ben and tony ruble, their family owns the place and take great care of us. Like I said the payment is a little more then from the dealership, but offers an alternative to being locked into these emission motors. If a truck acts up they have taken it back and got us a different truck. Which they have done with a few of our problem child’s. They order your spec from new if you sign a multi year lease and you can still work with your local dealers, we’ve had Pete’s from Utica general and KWs from north east. If you give Ben and tony a call let them know JAZ Trucking sent you, Or if you have any questions I’d be happy to give you more insight into our setup

Both are awesome brands but if we go best of the best it’s Peterbilt. Which is why paccar sent overseas kenworth and their Golden brand Peterbilt is exclusively for America. Peterbilt has an aluminum hood vs a fiberglass hood on any other truck including kenworth which is a big major factor as well. At the end of the day it’s preference but this is the truth📜 anything else is just PERSONAL PREFERENCE

Interesting u say that paccar doesn't want you hauling over 110,000. We haul 140,000lbs/63,500kg with our 510. We are switching to cummins 565/2050

Personally I think emissions trucks have gotten better. In your business if you run a lot of local routes vs long hwy runs that's what causes the issues with emissions. The fuel mileage usually makes the big difference with the new trucks on the hwy. New 7 to 8 old 4 to 5 mpg. That's driving 62-65 mph.

Depends on the application

I agree. They can save you $20K and more when you drive the newer trucks right. High mpg is extremely important.

Want a cheap truck, put in a pre EGR 60 series Detroit, good fuel mileage and cheap to build, even buy newer trucks and do engine swaps, can always sell a newer engine

you taking a W900 or their new W990? I'm pretty sure you can find $5000 difference between two or three Peterbilt dealers if your willing to go with a dealer not right in your back door. but then that will go for with the Kenworth dealers to. either way PACCAR way to go.

What's wrong with deleting the emissions after they start having issues, that's what free Americans do, You have the right to do what is necessary to make your business profitable and economical at the same time. We don't need permission from any government dictators to Butt in our lives. If all truckers and owner operators Band together and hold our ground, they cannot enforce their radical agendas against We The People.

you can not idle emissions engines, cummins recommends no more than 3 mins, also be aware millage is not the only warranty item the use engine hours also, 5 yr 500000 or 10000 engine hours on warranty read the fine print closely, keep track of the oil usage, oil is soot soot is ash ash plugs the dpf, clean the dpf when the first code for dpf regen complete but insufficent , aprox 150k miles, high def usage is usually from a nox sensor reading incorrectly
