Loved the Barnes home at Mt Gibraltar in the Southern Highlands. I was gutted when he had to end up selling the home etc. Now look where he is today. True fighter through and through x

You'd never believe this home started out as a small cottage. On p252 of Jimmy's sequel 'Working Class Man' he describes his and Jane's first home: 'I'm in my little farmhouse in the Southern Highlands. It's not a mansion but I love it. This is the first place that I have felt at home in my whole life. It's mine, no one can take it from me. It's my home. 'I'm in the front bedroom. The room is really too small to be a bedroom so I claimed it for my studio. It might have been part of the front porch at one time but someone decided long before I got here that a house with three bedrooms would sell for more money than a house with two, so they put up a couple of badly constructed walls, and there it was, a third bedroom'. To me this home is completely Jimmy Barnes and his family. From reading Jimmy's first autobiography 'Working Class Boy' one gains an appreciation of real poverty and deprivation Jimmy's childhood was. He had nothing! O! Big time duck egg. Can you imagine that? To understand Jimmy Barnes today you/we need to understand Jimmy's past and his lack of anything and everything! This man is the ultimate SURVIVOR! And the best part about him is he so loves his wife Jane and his beautiful children including his first son David Campbell, Mahalia (incidentally named after Mahalia Jackson), Eliza-Jane, Elly-May and second son Jackie. Jimmy is the REAL deal. He has been to hell, survived, and back. Few people in this world have experienced this. That is why he is such a special person, not just a rock artist/businessman, husband, father, and grandfather. This is precisely why when it comes to Jimmy Barnes the quote by Aristotle; 'The Whole is Greater than the Sum of the Parts' is so so totally apt and relevant to him. (Leighton S. New Zealand)
