Jimmy's videos are honestly probably the reason I bought a PC, wheel, and iRacing subscription when I had the chance. His videos on stuff like Assetto Corsa mods left me with an itch that Nascar Heat and Forza could no longer scratch. Then in my first few weeks of iRacing, I ran into some dude named Justin in an ARCA Lime Rock race, and he posted a link to a track guide on youtube. Ended up running into that guy again a couple of times. And now I'm on a Hakkinen level sabbatical, but I'm getting that itch again. The world is a weird place.

What drew me to Jimmer wasn't only just the memes and sim racing, but his openness to share his struggles with mental health and encouragement for others to do the same. Jimmy's annual Race for Mental Health is this weekend for Mind, a mental health charity in the UK.

Jimmer is an absolute legend. Back in 2020 a friend of mine got into SimRacing during lockdown. We both watched Jimmer a lot during this time and I helped my friend to learn more and more about sim racing. We ended up doing a 24h of Nurburgring race on iRacing as part of a league, just the two of us, and some how we won it! It was an amazing feeling and it was mostly down to Jimmy that my friend got into sim racing to begin with. Sadly a few months later, my friend took his own life as he was very depressed but never told anyone about it. It absolutely shattered me and I didn't know what to do with myself, I even had to take a break from watching Jimmys videos. But in November of 2020, I decided to pay tribute to my friend and race in Jimmy's Race for Mental Health (I think it was only the 2nd year back then!) and did the entire 23hour race solo. I was an absolute wreck come the end, but I completed it, and I was so elated! Getting to race on a virtual track with Jimmy was such a cool experience and I hope I can take part in the 2025 race again :) I also ended up wrapping my real life car in the same livery that my friend and I drove to victory in the n24h, complete with massive anime girl on the side lol. As Jimmy's whiteboard always says "It's ok to make mistakes, share your passion, enjoy yourself!"

I was there at Donington when Jimmy had won his first two races, a bunch of us had decided to go through the garages just to try and give him some support before his races. Jimmy spotted us and immediately stopped what he was doing and invited us into the garage and showed us around the car answering any questions we had and just having a normal conversation with us all about racing and cars in general even though he could've been preparing himself for the race. Super nice guy and definitely deserves all the success 😄

Never NOT going to cry listening to Jimmy's story. Just like I will never forget, having been made redundant from my dream job in the middle of 2018, deciding to check out videos on KZbin for the first time and finding Jimmy's video driving the old Spa circuit in a V12 Matra F1. The sound and action was amazing but what really hooked me was his commentary, and its what has kept me coming back all these years. Owe this man so much, my best friends and my girlfriend I owe to this journey and while I can never thank him enough it's not stopped me trying. Love you Jimmy, you've had such a positive affect on so many lives. The Zolder 23 hour is just a part of it. Three hundred thousand pounds and counting.

I started watching Jimmy in like 20116 or 2017 and it felt so cool to find someone who was so easy to relate to, watch and learn from. I started playing iRacing because of him in 2017 and now I work there (which is just an absolute dream come true). Jimmy Broadbent is one of my heroes. I've always thought sim racing is a perfect stepping stone into real racing; if you're fast in a sim, you can be fast in a car. I remember subscribing when he was just over 100K subscribers. I remember watching video after video of laps around the Nurburgring (I even salute the Rebel Tree whenever I pass it in a game). I remember his win of the iRacing Indy 500, when he's not really an oval racer. I remember him being broadcast in the US, racing F1 and Indy drivers, during the pandemic. I remember watching his first kart race, his first Praga race, and his championship run in a real racing series. Through it all, I've watched a man in a garden shed realize a farfetched dream while making sim racing content for guys like me. I don't think I've ever cheered on a guy I don't really know any harder than I cheer for Jimmer. I feel fortunate to know who he is.

Watching Jimmer grow maybe saved me, I think I found his channel at the right time in 2020, I 'd just found out I had secondary progressive MS and had to give up my future hopes, I had to move in with my parents and give up a decently paid job. I met Jimmy during the SimRacing Expo in 2019 and he is till this day one of the nicest people I ever met in my life. We had a little chat and he asked also about me and my background (even followed my old Instagram Account) and it was so special to me, since I've been watching his videos for well over 8 years now. He even remembered me when I came by to his stream months later to say hi, which also goes along with what he says in the video of how he treats his chat during livestream. And even after I left Sim Racing in early 2022, I continued watching his videos, because he is a huge inspiration to me in following your dreams and reaching your goals, even with a modest background. Seeing him win with Praga for the first time or winning the championship give me goosebumps everytime I see it. When I get sad or let down, one of the things I do is watching some of his old videos or clips not only to make myself feel better, but also as a wakeup call to never give up. I saw his GT4 stream and subbed and then learned there were more realistic racing games than Gran Turismo and Forza, which was baffling. Finding out I could own and race with a relatively realistic and weighty wheel and pedals in my own place of residence was incredibly appealing. It sounds so parasocial to say, but I remember feeling so proud when Jimmy got the call to Praga, and then kept getting calls and winning things. Because here’s this genuine, fun guy who’s clearly doing all of this for the joy of it, and he’s good at the driving aspect, WHILE managing to engage with chat and talk through his laps and offer commentary, it’s a really special combo to see. And at the same time, he’s saying “I can’t believe they called ME, I don’t deserve to be here!” when from the outside it looked like the most natural progression. Jimmer is amazing. Followed him for years but two things stood out: The main thing was his quest to beat Bellofs time on the Ring which took years but was eventually done. It was so amazing to witness that I eventually achieved that brutal challenge too. The second thing was when he was streaming him driving on Zolder (Maybe it was during the Mind fundraiser too) and he had Whatsapp Web open, and suddenly a message from 'Misha' in the group chat 'NLS/VLN' (something like that) popped up on the livestream, before anything about this was announced at all. That small mistake was so significant, and I'll never forget how amazing it was to read that.

A wonderful piece on a man who has deserved everything good he has made for himself. I've watched him for around 10 years now, in the early days I was going through what was the hardest time of my life, struggling with a big break up that took most of what I had in life from me as well long-term mental health conditions. I was close to the end at that time but watching him made me feel there was something to focus on in life and I got more into sim-racing too which i've always been into but I realised that I needed that to get me through one day at a time until I survived. It all still feels surreal now that I watch streams I would have watched anyway of various forms of motorsport, many of which I followed before he was involved like the Britcar series, I often have no idea he's in a race until I hear his name, just like you hear the name of any other racing driver. Add that to the online 24 hour races where you have names like Max Verstappen on the same track it all feels like the man has achieved something amazing. To think there are greater days ahead is a fantastic thing, so many people are so happy to see the guy succeed. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.

I remember I went through a phase of watching onboard footage of racing circuits I liked. That lead me to watching sim onboards. Then, I guess, that must have caused Jimmy's videos to pop up in the algorithm. I didn't have a television back in 2016-18 so I watched a lot of youtube. Eventually I found myself watching 30 to 50min videos of GT races that Jimmy would post and got into other content that lead me to subscribing. I didn't watch his live streams at all at first when I subbed. But when I did I got a great vibe of hanging out with Jimmy and now I don't like missing them. I had to subscribe a second time because I deleted an old google account. But anyway, he became my favourite youtuber because of the hanging out vibe on streams, his humour, his positive influence in relation to dealing with mental health and being a good influence on me and inspiring so many. I remember I was starting a new job a few years ago and he was streaming the night before. I sent a superchat about it and he said in his "Davestation" voice to not be nervous and walk in there like a boss. It made me laugh and when I started work the next day I thought of that funny moment to make me laugh and take the nerves away. I also asked him for advice recently about wanting to make youtube content but having anxiety and self-doubt about it and he responded kindly. I'm a lot older than him but he's the one influencing and inspiring me. That's my Jimmy story. He deserves the life and success he has right now because he's an emotionally intelligent and all-around nice guy. Awesome!
