Jimmy is such a character. I've been in a master class with him and I think he flamed me once on the internet, but he is definitely his own person, and his playing reflects that. Nice to see him so relaxed in this interview. Thanks.

The classical music influence is easily noticed in Jimmy's playing. What a unique jazz player he is.

The phrasing from Black greats is not based on European music! Jimmy knows that but like most he cant get rid of that! He is good player! He analyzed a clip I recorded and sent to him and gave it 5 stars. He mentioned the importance of his Black interactions!

Countdown to Big Jersey Guitar Camp in 2 weeks, I can’t wait! I was trained in Classical Guitar and teach it-I have tried to use a pick but haven’t committed to it.

Thanks for the post. Always entertaining to hear from Jimmy. I love all the players he mentioned. I'm always blown away by how efficient his left hand is. Never does it flail at all, as if it's connected to the fretboard. Re: Grant Green, it was the ex-wife of his son (not the one who plays guitar) who wrote the biography on him in the early 2000s. She followed it up with a documentary that was released just a few years ago. It's either on here or Vimeo. Grant Green must've had the most recognizable tone of anyone. It's like a staccato siren. A note and you know it's him.

Jimmy makes it understandable. It’s not Sal Salvatore’s single string studies. That was tough. Too tough in the beginning. The late Frank Dawson from Chicago taught me. Another great unknown
