I loved this song when i first discovered it, and then my orbit circled back around to it when i had grandchildren. Then it became a story for them. That's when it became absolute magic for me. I can only hope that Jimmy is getting to have a beer, and catching monster fish from his eternal boat today, someplace in heaven that resembes the Caribbean 50 years ago. Godspeed, fair winds and tight lines my friend. Good

For about 8 weeks in the later part of 1978, I was just 22 and "loaned out" from a rack jobber to ABC Records to shadow Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band. The rack jobber requested me to "lose my ponytail and beard" so as to make a good impression with the Jimmy Buffet entourage; the request fell on deaf ears. I learned so much in the 6-8 weeks from Jimmy Buffett and his promotional and marketing people. I officially became a 🦜 Parrothead for life in 1978. Someone from the band had me buy a lime green Official Parrothead Caribbean shirt, made of 100% Tencel, size 4X, the only size left. In 1978 I was 6'8"/165 lbs. It looked like I was wearing a tent. Now at 67, and 285 lbs, the shirt fits me well and it has held up a lot better than its owner. Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants was my children's favorite bed time (mine too) song to sing them to sleep. The song, the shirt and I have all weathered the years quite well. Merci Jimmy Buffett.

Wow!! You lucky dog. 🤩 This is my FAVE Jimmy Buffett song. His young daughter came out on stage, dancing around, to this song only. 🥰 He also brought out his friend, Waylon Jennings, so the whole audience could embarrass him by singing Happy Birthday. 😆 🤣 🥳 Austin Texas was FULL of Parrotheads that wonderful night in the early 80's. 🦜 My h.s. friend repaired Jimmy's sails every winter/off-season. He was gutted when Jimmy passed. ⛵️ R.I.P. dear man!! And THANK YOU for all the memories & music you've left SO MANY people!! 💞

Delaney, thank you so much for the vision to do this with your dad. My father and I have been writing his life story over the past couple of years. It's been so special to hear his life through his stories and have that time together. I love that you've done that here and have this time treasured away in your heart to carry you through the missingness. Sending

Wow! Such a wonderful channel. I first saw Jimmy Buffett in the early 70’s at a concert on the lawn of the student center at the University of Florida. He drew everyone in with his playful irreverence and colorful songs. Through time he has never lost his spark. He is as good as ever. In these videos we get a glimpse from s new perspective into this brilliant mind. Jimmy Buffett is not just a great singer and songwriter. He’s a cultural icon whose spirit will live along with his songs forever. Thank you sir for sharing this with us

Just the best memories of listening to this song and that album while traveling Northern California in my childhood with my mom and step dad back in the early 80s. An old Honda cvcc, windows down, summer days, and just the warm joy of youth. Thank you forever jimmy buffet for that gift.

The backstory of this amazing song is as great as the song itself. What an absolutely amazing life Jimmy led, as shown by his music. So incredibly sad😢 you've sailed on to your cheeseburger & boat drinks in paradise. Have one of those drinks ready for me, Jimmy, and we'll sing this one together when I arrive as well. Thank you.

I came to love this song because a singer-songwriter friend of mine (Paul Hayward) used to play it. I maybe only knew it was a Buffett song because he said it was, but sometimes he’d ask what I wanted to hear and more than once I said, “That French song”! 🤷🏽‍♂️ Thank you for all of the amazing music and memories Jimmy, and thank you Delaney for these interviews … I just stumbled upon them and am going to watch them all!! Rest in peace Jimmy 🙏🏽

Years back while camped in our fifth wheel in Florida on the Panhandle Rosie and I met a couple that were camped nearby. They were sitting at a small table and had a bottle of wine as my memory recalls. I told Rosie I was going over and play them a song. I took my guitar over and sang a Leon Russell song called "A song for You". After the song we all chatted and ate oysters. The fellow said he had bought a sailboat from Jimmy Buffett. I always thought it was a pretty good story and hope it was true! Love these clips Delaney. Burlington Bill here busking on the road and on You Tube.

That's so funny -- Jimmy is talking about the old 3/4 inch U-Matic video tapes! They were huge!!
@nickbona4210
@nickbona4210 5 ай бұрын
I was wondering if someone would recognize the 3/4 Inch tape and U-Matic player! Believe it or not, virtually every local TV station in the US still has at least one U-Matic and a storage room full of hundreds of 3/4 inch tapes. Most "File Video" run in newscasts from the mid 70s to the mid 90s has been digitized from those tapes (which were used to archive video for two decades). My station has just finally gotten around to digitizing our archives from 1980 to 1990. Around 2000 3/4 inch tapes that required a semi truck to haul away. Jimmy wasn't lying! They are big and bulky. 6 of them would take up the space of a modern home microwave.

@jimmybuffettoffical. I've been a fan for a long time. My whole crew had tickets for the concert in San Diego in 2004 when 2 of us had our 40th birthday. My fire department crew was my family and we were looking forward to a pirate looks at 40. Unfortunately the concert got rained out. One question I've always wanted to ask Jimmy is why did he put the Hemisphere Dancer on the hard? Being the romantic spirit that he is, why didn't he sell her so she could continue her journey on the water and in the air? I also wanted to let you know you were the reason I learned to sail and somewhat play the guitar. I had a sailboat in San Diego for many years. Thank you for all the years of great music and being a big part of my life!
