So he's got a funny line that he uses from time to time, sees a board with a bunch of letters and decides to try and put the line on there, maybe nicking a letter or two from Bill Bailey and using an upside down w as an m. Then he holds said board up for comedic effect and everyone's laughing and amazed. Mission accomplished. Now what exactly is 'fake' about that? Is Jimmy Carr a fake human being? is he actually an alien? Are the letters fake and exist only in the mind of those who see them? Come on! This stupid internet craze of calling everything 'fake' is getting ridiculous...

For full disclosure it is an idea that comes from one of his sets, so already existed, and he traded a lot of letters to get the right ones with Bill. So it's not as "impressive" as Alan thinks ... but really who cares -- it's a comedy show and it's clever and funny! :)

I remember this... Jimmy Car had been sprouting that phrase for months earlier... was part of a channel 4 promo. He was obviously given extra letters to complete what was a kind of 'catchphrase' at the time (especially if you count how many letters they were all initially given!)

In Viz's 2006 Annual, Top Tips, Page 107. I knew I'd heard it before when I heard Carr say it. 'SMARTIES tubes pushed over cats' legs make for a futuristic 'Space Cat'. @tf2whackyengineer This isn't a normal section in QI. Sometimes they give the guests little challenges at the start of the show and then check at the end to see how they did. In this instance they were given a magnetic blackboard with some letters and asked to come up with a funny phrase.

@Janusha The chances of getting the letters for exactly that sentence are very small, but I'm sure with any given random collection of letters it is very likely that it is possible to arrange them into a coherent sentence of some sort. It's a sign of Carr's intelligence that he has been able to spot a sentence that worked, it's not an impossible achievement.
