I'd add that Carter popped the OPEC price bubble - paving the way for the Reagan recovery - and helped end atrocities in Argentina and elsewhere. He did the heavy lifting for America, and stood up for our values abroad. Thank you, sir.

I loved the interest rates being hi. I made money by saving money and not spending. The banks had to give people more of their fare share of the money on their deposits.

True. Now it's 0.39% - now matter the size of your savings account. Yes, there are 4.5% CDs - but with strict account size limits (heaven forbid they actually have to pay out more than a trifle). And - of course - since Reagan we've had to worry about bank failures - which we didn't until then.
