I'm Brazilian, Jimmy Carter's victory was very important for the process of redemocratization of our country after 12 years of military dictatorship. The 1964 coup in Brazil only happened due to the support of the United States in the 1960s. In the 1970s Jimmy Carter pressured the Brazilian government to start the process of political opening by withdrawing the United States' support for the regime (started in the 1970s and concluded in 1985), Jimmy Carter also gave political asylum to a great Brazilian leftist nationalist Leonel Brizola, expelled from Brazil by the military. Jimmy Carter did very well for Brazil and the world! After these actions by Carter, most Latin American dictatorships were overthrown by the people.

But now you've actually *voted in* a monster, around the same time as my country voted in our orange monster. Sad.

@@LeshaAnn Bolsonaro was a tragedy for our country, we were on a good path of human development, hunger was being exterminated, but the people were manipulated by the Globo network, by military nostalgic for the dictatorship and religious conservatives... now, we are going back 20 years in terms of human development, they are burning the forest, they kill indigenous peoples and peasants, it is regrettable.
@LionelMessi-yp4sc2 жыл бұрын
Eu concordo que Bolsonaro é uma tragédia, mas dizer que o Brasil iria se tornar um país desenvolvido com o PT é uma piada.
@comunadabahia2 жыл бұрын
@robertortiz-wilson15882 жыл бұрын
The military coup was going to happen in Brazil regardless of the CIA finding out about it and then supporting it. Almost the same story with Chile, the CIA gave their secret verbal support for a coup when they found out the military was already in the process of planning it. You're right when it comes to the fact that they were politically propped up thanks to the US afterwards though.

I heard a young man speaking out just the other day; I stopped just to listen to what he had to say; He spoke straight and simple-by that I was impressed. He said, "Once and for all, why not the best?" He said his name was Jimmy Carter and he was running for President, And he laid out a plan of action-made a lot of sense! He talked about the government and how it used to be, for you and me; That's the way it ought to be, right now: Once and for all, why not the best? He spoke plain and simple and I began to understand I was listening to quite a man, talking to me. I began to see... We need Jimmy Carter! Why settle for less? America- Once and for all, why not the best? We need Jimmy Carter! We can't afford to settle for less, America- Once and for all, why not the best? Why not the best? Why not the best?

I’m not acting like he was one of the top best Presidents by any means. But he is such a good person. He said what he felt, he tried to do what was right. He’s not a bad person, unfortunately with the inflation and gas prices of 1979 and the Iran Hostage Crisis he just had bad luck. But he still felt like a real leader and someone who wasn’t abusing his power. I really like him despite some of the bad things he’s done during his presidency. Till this day he will still, he will go down in history as the president who made human rights central to his own foreign policy. Happy Birthday Jimmy Earl Carter. ✌️🦅
