Jimmy O Yang... his initials spell "JOY"... there's a Joy Luck Club joke in there somewhere...
@JourneyToHealth-bq5uy4 жыл бұрын
Jimmy O. Yang is one of my favorite comedians and I'm a HUGE fan of comedy in general! I agree with many that he is very underrated as to how amazing he is. And I also think he's doing a great service educating any of us who knowingly or subconsciously tend to generalize what is thought about Asians. *Warning - Rant ahead (about how this relates to another stereotype, particularly in the U.S.); please ONLY read if interested as I'm not going to respond to negativity as the ability exists to avoid doing so simply by scrolling past this... Jimmy might be joking about Asian stereotypes but I don't think he's doing a disservice to Asians because of it. It teaches any of us who generalize those stereotypes. I have my own VERY European features from a country that gets made fun of in a LOT of jokes (my features may not look obvious in my pic but trust me they are as I get asked almost every day where I'm from as I don't look like the 'traditional .white American'...that's a whole other topic & it's not discussed here). I've dated many guys who have thought I was intelligent and seriously inquire to try to understand that if all my ethnic country's jokes are in existence then there must be some merit but they see me like if I'm the only exception. The typical guys I'm referring to usually possess a post-grad degree, many times in Engineering as it is related to my field, and their social skills seem to be fine, so I would conclude reasonably intelligently people believe what these jokes allude to based on their prominence. It hurts and it's frustrating (my 3rd grade teacher even had to remove a student from the class for making them so much; I never complained to her so that made it worse for me, but I realize in her mind she was doing the right thing so I appreciate her for that; is this a form of racism...I don't know as that's a whole other topic as I do believe 'white on white' forms of it could exist, especially if you live in certain areas & it could get really bad as my father experienced EXTREME prejudice - violent bullying just for being 1st generation where he grew up; to give an idea of my father's character, he has 100s of friends that he gained over the years that he knows FAR better than the majority of 'Facebook' friends as it's evident between the correspondence that's still kept between). But back to Jimmy joking about Asian day-to-day typecasting...if I was a comedian I would 'make fun' the perception of my ethnicity too by appearing to make fun of myself. This way I would hope it would - first be funny - and second, maybe introduce to many that those jokes have nothing to do with my ethnic background (in fact, I'm pretty sure these jokes started in Europe and they're a result of at least two well known warmongers as they and their previous country leaders have tried at least 99 times to conquer my ancestral country for over a thousand years...the last time being WWII, as it's in a geographical area that would be very favorable to them to have as part of their respective countries; sometimes they've been temporarily successful but overall they certainly haven't and I'm certain these 'jokes' are to make up for these failed attempts and also make fun of my country's perseverance to stand against them, because that's something truly honorable about them that these warmongers just want to undermine; today, I feel pretty good that there is finally a more civilized thus respectful pact between all the countries involved that will prevent any conflicts over land in the foreseeable future). If I was a successful in that pursuit (I'm only speaking hypothetically as I have a very technical career that I believe I have been successful in part because of my extreme introvert nature), then hopefully I can not also demonstrate how those like me (ethnic wise) are not only very relatable to the average person but maybe bring awareness that adopting that general stereotype as fact (or at least thinking of that possibility) for everyone that hails from my ethnic country would then be ignorant if they accepted that those very popular jokes applied to all simply for being from there - just like Jimmy conveys brilliantly through his hilarity thus teaches adopting these clichés to depict all Asians would be uninformed as well (wish I could say the Chinese, but sadly it seems when we generalize that we do it as if all countries in Eastern Asian - as opposed to the Mideast ones - respective populations are almost interchangeable so I think we're sadly too far away for the majority to grasp the many differences similar to what we understand the differences about some major European countries, though the worldwide increasing popularity of anime & K-pop is somewhat helping with that by encouraging many to look deeper into each of the particular cultures). I REALLY appreciate anyone who read through all this. I didn't mention the name of the particular country I'm alluding to but I bet most can guess based on the nature (hopefully I described enough what that is as I avoided outright stating it as I did not want to feed the perception any further) of these ubiquitously existing 'jokes;' if they correctly guess the country then this just proves how very widespread and notable the perception is but thankfully people that are from said country that do what Jimmy does in his comedy are slowly hoping to change that (it would be nice though if people as a whole would also learn that no one country can contain just one type of individual; yes, there can be strong adoptions of a shared culture by each country's respective citizens, but in the end people are people - no matter where they are from - and we should have evolved as a civilization to only look for some shared similarities among PEOPLE despite what country they are from...because that's how it has always been but should be way more evident today).

If you ask it genuinely, a Japanese person will have a big reflection onto himself and his family; a Korean person will have a big reflection onto his country and his ancestry; and CCP will have have a big investigation into you, your bussiness and your family done by the country authorities you reside. Especialy if you live in the USA/EU.
