All who comment, these are the best professional artists you are going to see and hear. If you are comparing to the original songs stop it, this is as good as it gets live. Classics musicians, classic song and what a sound. A tight band by any stretch of your imagination. Brilliant.

Tim Rubin Halcomb so much better then his tone from the later years of zeppelin . his tone and playing took a nosedive after 73. but by 1998 he had his playing and sound back to a very high level.. it was around this time that he started to cut back on the booze and it shows

If was afraid of this when in 1979, when I thought...time marches on. We all get old and will our music pass like my parent's favorites did? Fortunately I have their albums in pristine condition. I feel like my parents with this music to new youth that have no understanding what we have/had. We get old and health problems arise. Now it's 2018. I first listened to Zep in 1977. Here we are now. Have you applied for an AARP card yet? They keep asking me to join. I don't yet feel like a GEZZER. I hate time...

that s the best guitar solo for no quarter page played after 1973. next to the song remains the same no quarter solo that that s the best solo page played of that song . the best playing and best tone he had after 1973 . so much better then that thin brittle fuzzy tone you hear on the 75 and 77 tours .. although nothing touches his 69 thru 73 tone .

If you think this was something, we attended this same tour when they hit the O-rena in Orlando Florida. I've attended 3 Zep concerts with the original lineup back in the 70's ( I am now 61 yrs old )........one show was among the best of all concerts ever, the other was "so-so" and yet another was really bad ( 2 of those 3 shows, the drugs, alcohol, and perhaps being tired really hurt them ). I have also seen many of the other greats in concert from Van Halen to Robin Trower., and damn near everyone in between. ( Robin Trower was the 2nd best concert I ever attended for sheer guitar tone. ) But on that night in Orlando Fl, Jimmy was using ONLY 2 Matchless tube amp heads sitting atop three 4x12 Marshall cabinets. There were no other amps, not even any Marshall's or Orange amps. His tone and playing that night absolutely blew away anything we had ever heard or witnessed, barr none. Robert's voice was even strong ( very strong ) that night. They performed for about 3 hrs. After the show, as we were walking out, literally everyone in that place were saying things like: "That's the most amazing feat of music I've ever seen & heard"......or something similar, I kid you not. To this day, I am really puzzled as to why I have never seen or even heard of Jimmy using Matchless tube amps in any other show, anywhere. Which is a damned shame, because on THAT night, literally EVERY tone he was getting ( clean, crunch, or searing leads ), no matter which guitar or pickup & volume settings........the tones were just bleeding and SO bad ass. My lead guitarist at the time ( we went to the show together ) was touted by critics as the best/most talented un-signed guitarist in the state of Florida. (meaning no major record deal ) He was a Strat man.......and even he admitted that the tones Jimmy was getting out of his Gibson LP's through those Matchless amps was astounding. Sadly, that show was never properly recorded. There may be a few bootlegs ( but the tone wouldn't be captured correctly on a shitty bootleg anyway ), but I've never seen or heard a video or recording from that magical night in Orlando Florida when Page & Plant convinced every person in that place that they were the best there ever was. I don't know how or why, but they were both in top form and performing perfectly. We had a 90 minute drive home, and every time we would try playing some CD, cassette, or even the radio.....after only a minute, we would just look at each other, laugh, and shut that shit off..........because there was absolutely nothing that could compare to what we had just witnessed & experienced. I'll never forget it as long as I live.

Disagree with many here. 1) Page and Plant where right to not include Jones. They never had a songwriting & personal relationship with him. Moreover, Page & Plant didn't want the Unledded thing or the 98 thing to be associated with Led Zeppelin. The more Zep members you include, the greater the nostalgia, which Robert Plant hates. I am 100% positive that we would not have seen "Walking Into Clarksdale" - one of the finest albums of the past 30 years and better than some Led Zep albums - if Jones were included. 2) John Paul Jones did not WRITE "No Quarter." Page/Plant/Jones co-wrote it. We have no way of knowing how much the arrangement of the tune changed once Jones brought it to the sessions 3) I completely disagree with many fans here. I felt "No Quarter" was one of the highlights of the 98 tour, and that Page's solo during this song in 98 may have been the greatest guitar solo he ever did in his career. I saw 4 HOTH shows in 1973, 3 Physical Graffiti shows in 1975, and 2 Presence shows, and none of them featured a version of "No Quarter" that comes close to most of the 98 versions. The one from Rockaplast in Cologone Germany might feature the greatest Jimmy Page guitar solo ever recorded to tape. I didn't like the 15 minute Jones piano solos. Like Bonzo's drum solos, boring to me. Get to the songs. As a guitarist, I prefer this song when the focus is on the guitar. 4) The fucking' fans are responsible for Page and Plant not working again after this 98 tour. Walking Into Clarksdale is one of the best records that Plant and Page have ever been associated with - including Zep - and yet when they broke into any of the new songs - fake fans just went to get beer and hot dogs. They never gave the new tunes a chance. I screamed at one guy when they started playing "Burning Up" : "You motherfucker, you are breaking up Page and Plant. Plant is not gonna play "Stairway To Heaven." He considers it a middle of the road Zep tune, regardless of what fans feel. Moreover, HE HATES FUCKING NOSTALGIA. If you don't give the new music, he will leave. And sure enough, as I predicted,. he hasn't worked with Page since. I loved this 98 tour. I felt they played as good as Led Zep much of the time. I felt is was better than any of the '77 shows I went to. I felt the band was on fire and too many fans disrespected this group. You deserve what you got by not respecting the new music of even giving it chance. No more Page and Plant. You should've know Plant was not going to tolerate nostalgia. You knew it because Jones wasn't invited to be a part of this thing to begin with. He didn't want A Led Zep reunion. If Jones is included, no Unledded. Tough shit, deal with it. The artist and what he wants comes first. No one wants to go to a show where someone is unhappy.

Don't know why people are howling and getting all excited about this but as much as I am sure Zeppelin wakes up to filet mignon sausage and eggs for breakfast and they don't need to check their bank accounts and of this comment means nothing to them I still must say that this version of no quarter sucks!.
@zoso19806 жыл бұрын
No John Paul Jones + Micheal Lee's annoying grooveless hyper style = Pass. I don't like they played this on the Unledded album the way they did, then JPJ's centerpiece song with scabs. Pass in big way.
@adamwatson69166 жыл бұрын
Stephanie Sandlin but you can't deny that page played an amazing solo here . 98 was the best guitar page played after 73 and other than the solo page played for no quarter on the song remains the same you won't find another no quarter where page plays the solo that clean and coherent . there are many no quarter from the 75 and 77 tours where page was borderline awful on this song this is better then some of the live versions zeppelin did . listen to no quarter from Seattle San Diego or landover from 77 and you will hear versions that had no energy and were brutally sloppy . people tend to forget that zeppelin are a only the best ever live band some of the time . other times it was heartbreaking how bad they could be . you will be hard pressed to find another version of this where page plays this well and has tone that sounds this good try liking it for what it is instead of hating it for what it's not it's not led zeppelin and was not meant to be. john Bonham is dead so give them a break page thought mike Lee was one of the best drummers he ever worked with . but he is not Bonham so automatically he sucks . it's foolish to think these guys could step onstage 25 years later and turn out a live performance as good as the original . page actually topped the original with his killer solo here
@adamwatson69166 жыл бұрын
Stephanie Sandlin the version on the unplugged album was just page and plant . acoustic guitar and voice that s it nobody else played on that version . you need to learn what the definition of a scab is. a scab is a non union worker who crosses a union's picket line when they are on strike to take the place of on strike union workers how does that Apply to page and plants choice of drummer and bass players . Mike Lee and Charlie Jones were in plants solo band for several years before the page and plant reunion the page and plant reunion was never meant to be a led zeppelin reunion. the 2 albums and 2 tours they did produced some amazing music . in 98 page was playing the best guitar he had played since 1973 and any serious page fan will tell you the same of the know enough and listen to zeppelin and page and plant bootleg albums page made a roaring come back with his playing and plant was singing with far more high range then he did from 73 to 1980 with led zeppelin . poeple just shit on page and plants tours because it's not a led zeppeli reunion completely closing their minds to the fact that there is alot of killer music on thoose tours . if you don't like the page and plant tours you are no jimmy page fan stop being narrow minded and completely dismissing good music on a silly principal . john Bonham is dead . does that mean they should no longer be aloud to play their old songs . Bonham is dead get over it he was great but he is gone . just because other drummers are not as good is no reason to condemn performances like this you need to learn alot more about music.
