My opinion: The idea that you are so much in love with someone, go thought so much, good times and bad, then some how, be it cheating,break up or death. You are haunted by the feelings and emotions. When ever I think about this song I imagine a couple where the wife died, and now the man wishes he could go back in time and never meet her so he didn’t miss her, didn’t have the emotions & memories he had with her because they hurt so much. He’s haunted by his feeling & memories of her. Maybe he believes if they had never meet he wouldn’t be so hurt, and maybe she would still be alive somewhere.

My personal interpretation of this song is that it’s about the heartbreak and pain he feels now after he had lost a loved one (most likely significant other - wife) where his wives life had either fade out of his life naturally and lost their love for whatever reason or from an illness that had taken her life. So he wants to go back to to the night he met her so he can relive all the amazing moment he had with her

I first thought he passed her by and regrets for not stopping and picking her up! But no, he actually loved her and she loved him but she gets killed by him due too a fight and he drives away haunted by her and sad knowing that he had to kill her but wishes he didn't.....

My interpretation of the song is he lost a partner to death. “I am not the only traveler, who has not repaid his debt” The debt to life is death. The price you pay for living. He hasn’t died, but his partner did… that’s how I see it.

I think this is about a fatal car accident. He met her, fell for her. They were one the road, she was driving, they were in a car accident, she died. He’s haunted by the ghost of her. Not sure why he wants to go back to the night they met, unless it’s for the memory of her.
